BarkingMadRead @mcctrish and casting was on point with this one 🤣 1w
mcctrish Absolutely on point 1w
Clare-Dragonfly It‘s a bit anticlimactic that he really is the son of Sir Felix, just illegitimate. His parents lived together as though they were married, and he was raised as the son, so really, what‘s the difference?! I agree with being impressed she saved money! (edited) 1w
ElizaMarie @Clare-Dragonfly I agree! 1w
dabbe I absolutely detest #snottymrsc for allowing Laura to be placed in a “private“ asylum so as to avoid any talk in public. What an absolute bitch. She saved all the $ and not once helped our #nicemrsc and Laura. Again. #absolutebitch HBC is perfect in this role. 1w
Bookwormjillk @Clare-Dragonfly anticlimactic is the right word for it. 1w
Bklover Know I‘m late with this one as I just caught up. As soon as I saw the photo I laughed- I agree with you- perfect casting! 1w

TheAromaofBooks I have been genuinely impressed by the different voices for the different POVs. Each one has really sounded distinct - even the tiny postscript by the Count yesterday. This was honestly maybe my favorite so far, despite the fact (because of the fact??) that I can't stand this guy! 😂 2w

mcctrish I hate all the men but @TheAromaofBooks it‘s true, each POV is so distinct it really is awesome 2w
mcctrish Will they send Marian to the asylum? 2w
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish omg I hope not, but if she‘s alone in that house there‘s nobody to stop it from happening 2w
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead and unconscious/delirious with fever 😔 they knew she was out there, they lured her 2w
ElizaMarie Its a toss-up for me on which male character in this book I hate more. That #UncleUseless I almost pity him! Almost! and #EweSecretions !!! 2w
Bookwormjillk This was really funny and frightening all at the same time. This picture is perfect. The count is really playing chess. What is going on? 2w
CatLass007 Hi my friend. Would you please remove me from this and all future posts except for what‘s coming up next year? I am so overwhelmed with buddy reads. I have to cut something somewhere. I may still read the books and pop in from time to time, but I‘m trying to take some of the pressure off myself. Self imposed pressure. 2w
Bookwormjillk Also I'm listening to Pride and Prejudice now too and imagining it being told from the perspective of Uncle Useless. I wish all books had an Uncle Useless chapter. 2w
BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 I totally get it! 2w
CatLass007 Thank you. 2w
Clare-Dragonfly #CountPorkchop is SO DIABOLICAL!!! I am afraid for Marian because I‘m pretty sure #UncleUseless is wrong about Laura being unwilling to leave without her, when they already agreed on this course of action. And of course if the count thinks it‘s a good idea, it must be a bad one! 2w
Clare-Dragonfly @TheAromaofBooks Yes, good point! I knew the Count was the author of the postscript within a line or two. 2w
Leftcoastzen #uncleuseless makes me laugh then I get so angry at him! OMG ! The POVs in this book are all so good. It saddens my heart that these women are trapped in this situation. 2w
KAO Ah! I am caught up after a brief lapse. I agree that the varying points of view are marvelously done! I am very worried for Marian at this point, as I considered her the strongest character to search for the truth and defend Laura—and as I see that no other coming chapters in the table of contents appear to be coming from her point of view, I fear the worst. Meanwhile the grumblings of Mr. Fairlie really amused me! What a curmudgeon! 2w
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Yes! Each POV is so well done! And today‘s section is perfect and so hilarious! 2w
BarbaraJean Today‘s section was much-needed comic relief after the infuriating postscript to yesterday‘s section… and also really frustrating because I NEED to know what‘s happening back at Blackwater and what #countporkchop is plotting. (And I‘ve read this before… I just don‘t remember 😂) 2w
julieclair I must admit I enjoyed the comic relief #UncleUseless provided in this section, secretions and all! 2w

Dracula | Bram Stoker

mcctrish Poor Lucy. Drac drains her almost dry and then lets her slowly recover #closethedamnwindowspeople 6mo
dabbe It's easy to think that Lucy is the main female here--with all the men loving her and Dracula draining her, but it's Mina who is the female force to be reckoned with. All of these Victorian notions of the innocent woman (Lucy's always in white, right?) are shoved to the side with Mina. She's even traveling the same path as Jonathan to rescue him, and she's doing it on her own! I love Mina! 🧡🖤🧡 6mo

dabbe Oh, and isn't Van Helsing the coolest name ever? 🤩 6mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe Mina is a badass! And I love Van Helsing‘s name! 6mo
Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe YES 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 6mo
dabbe @Clare-Dragonfly @BarkingMadRead 🖤🧡🖤 6mo
Bookwormjillk @dabbe she‘s so great! Love her! 5mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk 🧡🖤🧡 5mo
julieclair @dabbe Yes! Mina! She absolutely represents many strong Victorian (and earlier throughout history) women who were “ahead of their time.” 5mo

Ruthiella I also dug that reference. How appropriate since this group is an offshoot of that original #Pemberlittens Jane Austen group read. 😃👍 6mo

SpellboundReader Love the notes going back and forth! ❤ If Jo were a boy, I wonder if the same expectation to 'hold your temper' would apply if someone were caught cheating during a game. Excellent therapy for Beth. She needs to get out more, I think. 9mo
dabbe I also love that Marmee and Laurie's grandfather are involved in the PO fest as well.

It's been so long since I've read this that I had forgotten how each chapter could stand alone just like a Sherlock Holmes story with titles like “The Adventure of the Croquet Picnic“ or “All Play and No Work“. 🤩

Cuilin So I was at a picnic yesterday by a lake in Massachusetts. Ours was more of a frisbee, Jack Johnson on the boom box and lashings of Rosé. Lol I liked this chapter. 9mo
Bookwormjillk This chapter always reminds me of Persuasion. I wonder if LMA read Jane Austen. 9mo
Bookwormjillk @SpellboundReader good question re Jo‘s temper 9mo
willaful This is one of my favs. My first copy of LW was abridged (!) and this was one of the sections that delighted me when I found the complete book. 9mo
mcctrish @SpellboundReader I love the notes too 9mo
Clare-Dragonfly This chapter is so fun! It bugs me that Beth assumed Frank is nice based on his disability, but it all seems to work out. Warning: my spoilered comment will contain spoilers for the very end of the book! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. 9mo
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m glad Amy doesn‘t marry Fred. Cheater. 😂 9mo

mcctrish Absolutely the point in the night where if I was Nikolay Parfenovich I would be losing my shit, one minute groaning as Mitya went down another doublespeak rabbit hole and then laughing maniacally as Mitya indicted himself but always with the swears #whattheactualfuckmitya #yankinghischain #yankingourchains perfect meme for this chapter 13mo

BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I was leaning towards a My Cousin Vinny meme for a bit, but then they started on the money and I got a little too excited about Jerry Maguire 🤣🤣🤣 13mo
Cuilin #WhereisMityasLawyer, Mitya doesn‘t know the phrase “no comment”. 13mo
CatLass007 A My Cousin Vinny meme would be so fun.🤩 13mo
Bookwormjillk I‘ve never seen My Cousin Vinny. Clearly I need to correct that. For the sake of literature. 13mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk You will not be disappointed! 🤩 13mo
BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 I figure we have plenty of opportunities in future chapters 🤞🏻🤞🏻 13mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk omg I highly recommend it, it‘s hysterical! My whole family quotes it on the regular 🤣🤣 13mo
CatLass007 @Bookwormjillk It is suuuch funny movie. 13mo

⭐⭐⭐⭐
A fun little collection of odd historical events. Mason brings to light how each event had a much larger impact than the event initially appeared to have.
A quick read.
