Book 38 of the year.
This is book five in the “Meant to be “ series. It is a modern day retelling of Mulan. I love that @disneybooks is doing this series.
Book 37 of the year.
March‘s Thematic theme was hobby for the cozy mystery. I chose this cozy as I used to do some quilting and it looked fun.
Book 36 of the year.
Attending an event tonight about public libraries sponsored by my local PBS station.
When I saw this display at BN, I needed a picture. Less than 8 weeks til I graduate with my master‘s degree in Information and Library Science.
This story grabbed me from the first paragraph. The descriptive words of the Shenandoah Valley, the Civil War battles, the people were so real. As someone who has visited this part of the country, I felt that I was drawn back there and watching this story unfold.
Gripping, wonderfully written, well thought out, and hard to put down, Chris Bohjalian delivered a powerful and moving book with The Jackal's Mistress.
Book 33 of the year.
Happy Pi Day! This morning, I made an apple cinnamon and a small banana cream pie.
This was an interesting take on "Little Women". It focuses on the other March sister: Amy, Beth and Meg. It has queer undertaking on some of the main characters and definitely is different than the story that we know along with Jo being missing from the entire book. Each of the other sisters are represented differently than in the original story. In reading the epilogue, only one of the three authors has actually read "Little Women".
Book 32.
I absolutely adored this story! Arwyn and Zaki have a wonderful love story complete with hockey, sewing and two adorable little girls and dogs thrown in. This love story of two opposites falling in love is just magical. Kerry writes another win in the Coffee Loft Series!
Book 29 of the year.
This is a contemporary romance that revolves around Bryony and Jack. Bryony is a ghostwriter for one of Jack's authors. This is a friends to lovers, he falls first and workplace romance. Everything about this story is just perfect and it truly is the perfect rom-com. Enjoyable, fun,, laughed out loud and highly recommend.
Book 28 of the year.
When you come home after a busy day at the library, have a meeting and then homework, you squeal with delight when you finally open up bookmail and it is a book from one of your favorite authors!
So, please don‘t bother me as I will be reading for the rest of the night!
Many thanks to @ChrisBohjalian and @doubledaybooks with @penguinrandomhouse for this surprise #bookmail! You truly know how to make this librarian happy! 😊
March #hopefuls. This doesn‘t include any ebooks, audiobooks or new March releases.
Special thanks to Kensington Books for these #gifted books.
Book 25 of the year. Read #bannedbooks.
Following in the footsteps of @TheBookHippie , I searched in Pinterest literally my character. I am an ♈️ Aries and these fit me. I was also surprised to discover that most of the pictures were book characters or characters/people reading books. So fitting for me. 😊
More book mail. Thanks tonGrand Central Publishing for this advanced reading copy.
This book started off with spice and I wasn't sure if I would like it due to the spicyness. I loved Ash and his brothers (all demons from Hell) and Eva. Ash falls for Eva as she is a musician and she can see him through a curse that makes him ugly. The romance between Ash & Eva is also wonderful & surprisingly (given how unfeeling demons are supposed to be in this world) heartfelt & emotional.
This book was fun, spicy and enjoyable.
Book 22.
This is a novel set in the Civil War and shortly thereafter. Louella is a slave who has been freed and married to the honorable Reverend William. She wants to lead the people off the plantation and have a place where everyone is treated equally and respectfully. This is their journey to outside of Asheville, NC to a place that they call the Kingdom of Happy Land. This story is based off a true story.
Book 21 of the year.
All You Need Is Macchiato is a sweet, clean, romance. Kathryn is part of the Coffee Loft going to Elk Ridge to turn the local store around. She meets grumpy mountain man, Nolan. I loved their banter in the beginning, their trust issues and how this story was interwoven into a part of another coffee loft book with ties to Wilmington, NC and a wishing wall.
This story made me tear up several times with the wishes & the wishing wall. Book 16.
I‘m thrilled to be a part of the @nchumanities North Carolina reads program. This is my second year as I loved last year so much! I love reading books either set in North Carolina or by North Carolina authors.
February‘s book is “The American Queen “ by Vanessa Miller.
I am looking forward to another amazing time with this group of readers and authors!
Thank you to @nchumanities for including me this year!
This fantasy book is filled with Finnish folklore, gods and magical creatures. The story of Siiri and Aina told in two POVs stories is filled with breathtaking imagery and beautiful writing. It is a slow burn but so worth staying with the story. Siiri and Aina take us on a journey of sacrifice, bravery, love, friendship, and loyalty.
I look forward to the second book in this duology.
Book 14 of the year.
This book is in the new series of the Coffee Loft books which has mountain men in them. Luke and Kaylee are so sweet together even given Kaylee's accident prone nature. I loved all the coffee puns and the setting which is in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Another winner in this series!
Book 13 of the year.
Time travel, magic, friendship, and an ending that wraps it all up nicely. This is a slow burn for the first 50 pages but then the story picks up. I loved it more than I thought I would and the story was beautifully written.
Book 10 of the year.
Tonight, I attended a webinar as part of @celadonbooks Read Together initiative. I read “Penitence” by @kristinkovalwriter with @charliegirl.loves2read , @bookserireads , @rebecca.is.reading and @jamieruegsreads . They are on Instagram. My group had wonderful discussions about this story of forgiveness.
Tonight‘s webinar with @burnsamyjo who wrote “Mercury “ and @kristinkovalwriter was amazing!
