This book was absolutely awful. I often times wondered if it was written by a 13 year old…the writing was incredibly immature. Truly terrible. I slogged through it for a month. I should have bailed, but by the time I realized how bad it was, I was too far in and had wasted too much time.

This is a solid 4 stars for me. I loved the concept and I loved actually having a strong female role that isn't dependent on the male characters. I loved her strength and I really liked the romance, I thought it was more suttle and cute, instead of having the whole book surrounding it. The only reason I had to knock off a star was because it was so confusing! And the author just threw characters at you. But I'm ready for the second book!

4-2019 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not a bad read but definitely at the younger end of the YA scale. There are also some similarities to the Divergent series and yes the "romance" or lack there of if just as frustrating as Tris and Four.

Oh Amazon! You gotta stop sending me emails telling me a book I want is on sale 😫😫😫 you are killing my wallet! $2.99 may not be much for a couple books but it adds up lol

(I'm secretly very happy about this though 😁)

Re-reading this for the third time because my Teen Book Club at the library chose to read it this month, plus it gives me a chance to revisit the world before I read the final book in the series! And I gotta say...I do really enjoy it. Ya, there‘s some problems with it, but overall, the ideas and concepts behind it are so interesting! Gives you a lot to think, and hopefully talk, about!

I love the premise of this trilogy, but there was something a bit forced about this first one - too much world building maybe? Or perhaps it's just a bit too long? I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes now that the world is set up

At first i was unsure if I wanted to commit to a book with so many foreign worlds and problems.. But it wasnt what i expected. Gena Showalter slowly introduces new information of the life so it wasn't an overwhelming, confusing rush of information. I absolutely loved it. You fall in love and attached to the characters/ personalities and is not a predictable book. Keeps the reader on edge. Definitely recommend for light, enjoyable reading.

I really really enjoyed this book. I loved the plot and the intrigue and mystery behind the two realms of the everlife and he possibilities of choosing between the two. I also really liked the character and the different layers that they brought to the story. A full review of this book can be found on my blog :-) link in bio! 😊

You know, if you like YA fantasy of this type it's not a bad read. Good enough I want to read the sequel. And pretty action packed.

"I've been told history is written by survivors, but I know that isn't always true."

This has started out as an interesting read. Sometimes I have problems with the whole email with text thing but not with this one. I was immediately interested in learning more about Archer Prince.

Have you read this before?

There are worse things than death.....

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she‘ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

398.2 Do you like it? Sounds interesting. 8y

I fascinating idea that doesn't quite deliver, this book delves into a future dystopian earth with allegory for religious and political persecution/strife. The protagonist must choose a side and is just too wishy-washy about it through much of the book. It seemed as though the idea was dragged out too far to be sustained. Not sure yet whether or not I'll read the next one.

Cracked this open tonight... I'm on page 35, but I feel like this book is so extreme really quickly? Kind of vulgar, which I normally can stomach, but I'm wondering what that does for the story/plot? Maybe I just need to give it some more time. 🤓

Has anyone read this/can you tell me what you thought? #ya #yafiction #bookblogger

bitcheslovebooks It definitely got real extreme real quick. I wasn't expecting that. But it showed me quick this wasn't going to be a fluffy telling of this story. 7y

LazyOwl I've read this one too, I originally bought for my 11 year old daughter but realised some of the themes are a bit old for her. I enjoyed though & I think she could probably read in a couple years 8y
AngelErin @LazyOwl I could see that! Also, it's tough sometimes with kids to know what they can read right? I have 3 kids and my sons are both 9 and big readers. But one of them is very advanced in reading and it's hard to decide what he can read. 😬😬I'm so glad you enjoyed this one as well!! ❤️😁 8y
LazyOwl I know what you mean. Both my kids are avid readers, my son is particularly advanced, but agree it's very hard to find a book he would enjoy but that will take longer than one sitting to read! 8y
AngelErin @LazyOwl YES!! Exactly! 😂 8y
pandaspages My niece is the same. Shes 9 and recently went on vacation with my parents. She brought along a copy of vampire Academy that Id bought for her 13 year old sister. Not that VA itself is too mature for her, but further in the series there is some very inappropriate content for a 9 year old. I felt bad telling her she should leave the book at home, so i sent her with my very well loved copy of harry potter instead. 8y

I'm already halfway through my next read so I've definitely got my reading mojo back.Firstlife is set in a world where the life you live on earth with parents is just your Firstlife, before you die you must sign a contract with either of two realms,Troika or Myriad to live your Everlife there & they are in an eternal war with agents sent to recruit you,or kill you before you sign with their enemy.Fascinating concept & well written.#giveascarybook

Abandon ship! The prose is filled with juvenile exclamation points, a shallow narrator, choppy exposition, and crass stock characters. I got halfway through before I couldn't take anymore. I think it's supposed to be deep, an extended metaphor for spiritual struggles, and maybe even a Christian allegory, but it's so poorly constructed that I'm Audi. 👎🏼

I didn't like it at first. Not one bit. But it grew on me. The story intensified even if the characters didn't. And we don't really get an antagonist until the end. Also realized it's an allegorical narrative relating to heaven, hell, and purgatory. Not sure if I want to read the sequel.

Wasn't the biggest fan of this at first, but I'm coming around. Another teen focused dystopian love triangle. If it weren't for the interesting plot regarding life and death for ALL characters, I would've bailed on this 16 chapters ago. Bookmark from MedusaDollMaker on etsy.
