This book is a feast for the imagination. Pulse-pounding. Edge-of-your-seat. Adrenaline-inducing. A masterful spectacle with that much coveted political meat that I favour in my dystopian novels. Combining concepts from multiple universes, Brown weaves an angsty tale for mature YA dystopian fans. It is truly harrowing as it depicts the subjugation of humanity. This instalment is as legendary as its protagonist. Consider me hooked. Phenomenal.

This dystopia is a mix of ideas already seen elsewhere, beginning from Harry Potter and going through Hunger Games and Divergent. There are lots of logics and science gaps, not much in terms of character development, but the storytelling is fast pacing, angsty and full of drama. Don't think I'll continue with the series :(

I read this book at the request of my teenage nephew, as it‘s his current favorite series. The story was good but also very violent. I liked the character of Darrow and some of the others, but the first person point of view means you only get to know the other characters from Darrow‘s perspective. I‘ll probably continue the series at some point for my nephew, but I don‘t feel compelled to immediately know what happens next.

This was a good book, but not great. Very plot driven, not a lot of character development. Loved the overall theme of rebellion, and the dystopian future world. I‘m jumping right into book 2, but only because I don‘t have anything better to read.

Monday morning book & breakfast! My nephew has decided this series is his new favorite, so he said I had to start reading it. This first book has a bit of a slow start, but it‘s getting more interesting now.

5⭐️ THIS WAS SO GOOD! I cannot believe I waited as long as I did to read this book, cause it‘s been on my TBR for at least two years. I think what held me back was the idea that it was a sci-fi, and I am not a sci-fi girly, but there‘s such an epic fantasy vibe to it that it just works. 100% recommend, looking forward to book two. This was my #DoubleSpin for my #BookSpinBingo and my #Roll100 #67 for March.

For my #weekendreads I‘m hoping to finish “Red Rising” and put more of a dent in “Powerless.” I don‘t know why, but it‘s taking me so long to read Powerless and it‘s not a story I‘m completely invested in. I‘ll finish it, but I‘m ready for it to end. As for Red Rising, I‘m loving this so far!

I'm excited to start this one! I heard it's about a dystopian society so this sounds like its right up my alley 🤣

This was not as good as the first three

I‘m bailing an hour and half (10%) into the book. I didn‘t realize it was the beginning of a trilogy and I‘m just not that invested 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love this book! So many twists and turns, and the characters are extremely well crafted. There are very gory scenes, which makes this especially heart wrenching. Also the audiobook narrator does an amazing job immersing the reader into this wild world

This is a borderline pick for me. It had a very captivating opening, with great world building. However, when we get to the competition portion the story weirdly drags at times and feels more YA. I believe this is intended to be an adult novel but I. The choice of age of our protagonist, he struggles to balance the reality of that age with the dangerous world of this book. I do really like the protagonist and plan of continuing the series. 3.5⭐️

Unpopular opinion incoming!
All I can say about this book is, “Why?” Why is it set on Mars when it seems to take place in a futuristic Rome? Why is the protagonist such a Gary Stu? Why do the characters reference conquerors and figures from ancient history as if nothing has taken place between then and mankind‘s terraforming of the solar system?
Overall, disappointing. I know tons of people love it, but I just couldn‘t get past my own ⬇️

So which is it? Roque or Cassius?! 🤦‍♀️

There‘s been more than a few things that have irked me about this one so far, but the premise is interesting enough that I‘ve stuck with it… for now…

It took me a little while to get into this book but once it got going it was good. I'm not too sure about saying it's a space opera but that is what they classified it as. Whew...a tough one (dreading the S). But this one and the rest of the series is fantastic. I feel I must acknowledge the other very close runners up if no one minds:
Realm Breaker, Ruin and Rising, Rule of Wolves, and most recently Recursion.

So I won‘t lie, I didn‘t love this book. I actually found it kind of challenging to read. There were so many names and moving parts. I will read the next one to see if I enjoy the continued story. But I‘m not sold yet.

🎧⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was heart wrenching and pulse pounding and I didn‘t want it to end. I want to write something that twists like this knife of a book. Kind of Hunger Games and Gladiator on Mars.

This book is battered and beaten like many of the characters that Pierce Brown crafted carefully. If you are looking for the story of an underdog, manipulation, rage, love and passion - look no further. I can‘t wait to read book two and rate this bad boy an 8/10. Absolutely worth the read.
