I have LOVED this series & this was a great installment. Dasha has to face her demons (internal & real, it is magic after all) & choose how to move forward with her life while dealing with trauma from losing her parents, sabotaging her relationships & hosting a legendary dark power.
This book came along way from the starting premises but I‘ve enjoyed the progression to higher stakes & harder topics.

My favorite in the series so far, and Three Pines was barely in it! Chief inspector Gamache and his wife are celebrating their anniversary at Manoir Bellechasse, just over the mountain range from Three Pines. Yearly visitors, this visit coincides with the Morrow family reunion, including the Gamache‘s friends from Three Pines, Peter and Clara. The last book hinted at Peter‘s dark side. When a Morrow is killed, is Peter to blame or another ⬇️

Texreader wretched Morrow? Or does the manoir‘s staff have something to hide? An impossible crime to pull off; only the most observant and detail-oriented investigator can pull this one off. And Gamache does so again. The author does struggle in explaining the complexity of the murder but kudos to her for not taking the easy route and giving us an extraordinarily complex murder mystery. #foodandlit #Canada @Catsandbooks #serieslove @TheSpineView ⬇️ 2w

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Ch.16-22/Review - wow the last few chapters of this book whirled by as it all came crashing together. I knew the two cases had to be linked somehow - did everyone click on to the evil Mrs.Branson? What a conniving psycho! Poor Zeke. I wonder if he‘ll recover from this. And will Peabody give McNabb a chance in the romance department? I‘m eager to read more.

StayCurious I enjoyed this instalment- it was heavy at times (very high body count and sad that we lost Malloy) but also showed how smart Eve is to have put it all together. She really showed her skills this time. We‘ll be reading Witness in Death next, but I think because of the busy holiday season, we‘ll take a break and resume in January. We really hope you‘ll continue with us in our In Death journey! See you soon! 3w

LiseWorks I thought I was in a spy movie with the last chapters. Lol, yes, hope to see everyone in January 3w
TheAromaofBooks I honestly didn't suspect Clarissa, but it all made sense once Eve pointed it out. I am LOVING this series and will definitely be back for more next year!!! 3w
ShananigansReads I didn‘t see her coming either. I love this series. Can‘t wait til January to dive back in. 3w

Clarkson‘s rhyming text is represented beautifully by the illustrations. While the text does rhyme in most cases, there are moments when the rhyme is broken throughout the narrative—I found this to be a little odd and broke the rhythm of the narrative. I did not listen to the song featured in the book, but there is info provided to listen to the lullaby. #PictureBook #BBRC #LetterR

LibrarianRyan I know there was 2 or 3 of these books. I only read 1 and was not in love with it, but I love Kelly! 5mo

This quick read #PictureBook bio of Aretha Franklin plays off of her best known song (see the title of this book) and uses a rhyming structure to tell a very basic overview of her life. What I love most are the illustrations - so vivid and colorful and poetic on their own. Beware - you may feel like belting out her hits after reading this one! #BBRC #LetterR

Though this has appeared on banned books‘ lists, I‘m still not quite sure what is objectionable about the book…don‘t get me started on book banning!

When relatives come for the summer, they bring lots of good tidings and fun. The illustrations show happy people doing everything together. I like the color scheme of the images and can see why it is a Caldecott Honor book. #PictureBook #BBRC #LetterR

marleed Oh. I have this book and had no idea it was a banned book - geesh. I guess that means I need too pull it out an read with my grandkids. There‘s another book by this pair called, It‘ll Come A Tide. That story became part of our vernacular while raising my kids! 1y
Librarybelle @marleed It‘s so bizarre that this was banned! It‘s a fun read 1y

Going with the ONE for this prompt. No video games in this romance. But there are boxing match “games,” which may count as player one and two lol

Klou Nice choice! 2y
