One of my all-time favorite movies, and now I‘ve finally read the original short story! King has a way of fully developing his characters and pacing the plot so even when you know what‘s going to happen, it‘s still a revelation. I‘m just in awe. #bookspinbingo #doublespin #wickedwords - Christmas, Office

One of King‘s greatest gifts as an author is his ability to write decoy. He doesn‘t cheat to get to his twists and turns and this novella may be his greatest example. By the time Red tells his reader this is a story about himself - “every damned word” - you remember all the foreshadowing a 111 page story provides. It‘s then that you think, “I can‘t wait to get to the last page” all the while thinking, “I can‘t wait to go back and read this again.”

Finished the first novella in the Different Seasons collection and absolutely loved it. I‘ve always loved the movie, and I think it was a great adaptation of King‘s story. I loved Andy and I loved Red, the narrator. I love that Red is telling us Andy‘s story in his own voice. I could visualize the entire thing in my head and the end made me happy. Just solid writing by the greatest and a pleasure to read.

Slim but powerful- a book that‘s been on my #TBR FOREVER - like a lot of King‘s stories, this feels a bit dated but the character development is so strong and King manages to create such a tight tale in under 120 pages. Impressive 🙌🏻

Sticking with my King answers, the #Library is a key setting in this novella. Although the character of Brooks gets a bigger focus in the movie, but I'm okay with that because I love his character.

A quick little novel about Andy Dufresne and the man who can get you things inside of the prison Shawshank.

I‘m really enjoying Stephen King, I‘ve always avoided his novels because he writes horror, and I‘m not a fan of being scared, but his novel/novellas are worth it.

Blueberry The Green Mile is another great one, not horror but not novella. 3y

I watched and loved this movie years ago. This short story (about 150 pages) was so great. Most people know the story of Andy Dufresne who is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and lover and his time spent in Shawshank maximum security prison.

I was having a hard time choosing an audiobook to start as I did a few random farm jobs this morning, but I settled on this novella that‘s been on my TBR for way too long. I think the movie is fantastic and have been meaning to read the original story for years. It was a great story, and even knowing what would happen, I thoroughly enjoyed listening straight through the entire thing as each detail was revealed.

Wow! This short story now published as a stand-alone novella was great! I read it in one sitting last night. King‘s writing here was so different than in Carrie. I look forward to continue reading his books this summer and fall! 5⭐️

Very good. Even though I am not a fan of Stephen King I absolutely love the film of this and so I thought I would read the book it was based on. This book is only 111 pages long but every page is full of rich detail and drama that you just want keep reading. A must read for everyone who loves the film.

ravenlee I just recently read this (hubby kept saying how weird it was to see me reading Stephen King) and really liked it. I only sort of know the movie, but was impressed how they followed and where/why they diverged. Both well done. 3y

📚 Stephen King packs so much into 128 pages!!

It‘s a tough read!

The movie follows the book ... they have differences but nothing that‘s a deal breaker!

What do those posters mean to him .... freedom. 😈

SUCH A GREAT MOVIE!! The book adds a little but come on, it‘s 128 pages!! Still it feels like a lot more!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👇🏻

Twainy Red (the guy who can get you anything in the shank, a crap prison in Maine) tells the story of Andy Dufresne. One of the 10 inmates Red ran across who he feels was innocent. Andy is a banker convicted of killing his wife & her lover, a golfer Glen Quentin.

The Mangler makes an appearance. 🥺

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - bow down, Stephen King. Despite it being classed as one of his “short stories”, it doesn‘t stop you experiencing every ounce of emotion, every smell & every punishment dished out in the Shank. SK has an uncannily beautiful way of writing, it is fair justice that one of my favourite films is now also, a favourite book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a good book. King did a great job of telling the story. It is the story of Andy Dufresne who has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover.

I found this book after watching the movie countless times.l, it‘s one of my favorites movies and now books. As in SK style he has a way to take you on a journey that is full of hard truths and often ugly facts so well written that well I want more! Many people don‘t realize that this excellent movie was based on a Stephen King novella.
This adaptation does a wonderful job of staying true to the tone and message of the novella.

JulAnna @Lucy_Anywhere It is a good collection of four novellas. It surprises people who think they know SK‘s writing that none of these novellas are horror per se. The Body is also included in this book, it was the basis for the movie Stand By Me. 5y

Scrolling through the books @kaye read I saw this. Dialogue with my significant other.

Me: “The film »Shawshank Redemption« is based on a book. By Stephen King.”
Him: “Hunh?”
Me: “»Shawshenk Redemption«. »Die Verurteilten«.”
Him: “Sure. Could‘ve told you that.”

Who else knew❓For me, this was completely new. And I‘m such a chicken, so I don‘t read any of his books. But … This one isn‘t scary at all. ?

Kaye Thanks for the tag , and although I‘m nowhere near as big a Stephen King reader as lots of people in here are, I‘ve read a handful that sort of go from this type, which really isn‘t scary , to the ones I have yet to read , such as IT and others too numerous to mention. King‘s books are surprising, as some may just have a strange story or character, some may just be mildly spooky, to others such as IT and The Stand which are probably really scary ? 6y
