I had a whopping seven 5 ⭐ reads this month so it was difficult to choose a favorite. But ultimately queer fantasy wins out, as is usually the case 😄
#TransRightsReadathon Book 1
This book was a hauntingly beautiful queer reimagination of Peter Pan in which Wendy Darling escapes to Neverland to become his true self again as Peter, ten years after he left it to return home. But the world is not as he remembered and holds no joy except for when he is fighting his nemesis James Hook. With Peter grown up, their rivalry begins to shift dynamics. What's real or imagined is blurred and both men ↩️
Next up for #readharder2022, Peter Darling. Really looking forward to this queer retelling! #lennox #huey #catsoflitsy
An interesting premise of the Peter Pan story reinvented as a sequel and retold. Imagine if Pan was a young trans man who has a thing for Captain Hook in this enemies to lovers M/M trope.
So interesting.
I didn't really read anything about this book going in. It instantly grabbed my attention, it was very adventurous and emotional all wrapped together. I kinda loved the concept of Neverland and what it provided for Peter. I also didn't really love the ending. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't *that*.
It's so hard to rate good books with bad endings.... I think I give it 3⭐s. Maybe 3.5
Me, stomping around and screaming: peter darling back in print, PETER DARLING BACK IN PRINT
I read about this book several months ago and instantly wanted to read it, but it had a short run and my local library didn't have it - and to buy it would've been REALLY expensive. Lucky for me my university can borrow outside of the state! This book came from Florida! I love a fairy tale retelling and am so excited to get into this.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 — This book has been living rent-free in my head for three years so I had to re-read! It‘s a beautifully insightful own voices story and an ingenious adaptation of a classic story. James and Peter were interested characters that tapped into the ideas of escapism, nostalgia, growing up, and finding your true self. Do yourself a favor and pick this up!
"What good was it to find out who I am and what I want if I had to be alone?"
Since I only want queer fairytale retellings, I was bound to love this one. It was a great story and a very interesting take on Neverland.

This book was gorgeous in so many ways. The characters were fully fleshed out and incredibly multi-dimentional. There were a couple of typos/changes in font size here and there, but then again, I've never read an indie book before, and the pure human joy of this novel makes up for all that! #justfinished #lgbt #lgbtfiction #peterpan #fiction #queerfiction
Really enjoying this one so far. The characters are familiar yet completely reimagined, and the story is utterly engrossing. I can't wait to see what Peter and Hook will get up to next, though I dare say I'm more intrigued by Ernest as an OC 😏 #currentlyreading #catsoflitsy #covercrush #peterpan #peterdarling #fiction #lgbt
I loved the premise of this book. The writing isn‘t anything overly spectacular, but it was a really wonderful story. The love story was very sweet. I also thoroughly enjoyed the ending.
Just not for me I'm afraid. I really wanted to like this book because the concept is a really interesting idea and it's really well written but i just couldn't get into it.
#ReadHarder challenge 14: a novel by a trans or nonbinary author
This was kind of fascinating.
The psychological Trope that's always been played in Peter Pan is that Captain Hook is really the Darling father. Generally, the same actor will play both.
In this book there's a twist. Peter and Wendy are the same person. Wendy is a trans boy, who becomes a real boy through Peter. This is also a m/m romance.

Really good—fun, great trans rep, sexy, even! So grateful I read it.
Peter Darling was utterly charming and wonderful. Basically a sequel to Peter Pan that‘s SUPER gay and satisfying.
I dug out another queer retelling of Peter Pan to follow it just because I‘m not ready to leave the world yet. Lost Boi is supposed to be a really gritty queer punk retelling so this might still be a 180 degree turn from Peter Darling but I‘m excited to read it any way.

For once, I‘m REALLY glad my car inspection is taking over two hours because I can‘t put this book down!

Finished up my #novelteabookclub pick this morning so I‘m starting this one really quick before I have to go in for a long day at work. Excited to read some queer lit!

A sweet LGBTQIA+ retelling of Peter Pan. Always nice to revisit Neverland!
This was supposed to be one of my airplane reads tomorrow, but I accidentally blew through it in one sitting. What a beautiful, poignant, delightful book. ❤️❤️❤️
AUGH what a good book! I just loved every bit of it: I love the fairies, I love Peter, I LOVE James. Very excited about that sequel! #IndieAthon
Warning: there are a number of flashbacks that heavily involve misgendering, which (admittedly) act as a big chunk of Peter's motivation.
Next up for #IndieAthon ! I have been looking forward to this one for awhile. And I've started it just in time for the days at work with offsite parking and trolley riding.
Finally my hold came in on this one. I can‘t wait to read this!
I could not put this book down! I was so intrigued by the premise of Peter Pan actually being Wendy's masculine identity and the book did not fail to deliver. I always love reading about how other people experience the world and tying transgender issues in with such a beloved story made is a very clever way to make these kind of issues and experiences more accessible.
This is an interesting sounding take on the story we all know! Weaving very relevant themes into a childhood favourite, I've been hanging out to read this one.
I had a very good book day. Three of my library holds came in: Artemis, Jumpstart the World, and You Are A Badass.
And I really freaked out when I saw on @bookriot that there was a transgender retelling of Peter Pan so I splurged and bought that, Agents of Dreamland, and The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe. If I'm going to get one book I might as well throw a few more in there...

I have to hand it to Less Than Three Press. This is the second novella of theirs I've enjoyed.
But most of the credit it owed to Austin Chant, who is a fabulous writer who really knows how to straddle the line between whimsy and reality. I am CERTAIN this is a book I'll be dying to reread soon. I'm so in love with it.
Finished the prologue and first chapter and... It just ended on such a strong note.
Glad to finally be reading this!
#Recommendsday
This is a beautiful trans re-telling of Peter Pan. Peter is now in his mid-20's, and back in Neverland, where things have changed with the Lost Boys, Tink is older, but seeing Captain Hook again definitely thrills him. It's a beatiful piece of character development, and a tribute to why ownvoices stories are necessary so as to center the right point of view when sharing an experience. TW: deadnaming, misgendering.
Book 62. The first third of this book I had some trouble getting into it, and thought about bailing for a minute even though I really wanted to know what happened. It felt like it wasn't written they way I hoped it would be but the last two thirds made up for it and I really enjoyed it in the end. (I have like zero reading time the last few days and anticipate having hardly any for the next few *cries forever*)
Currently reading. I'll put together my stats for the month later, I could finish this today but I have a million things to get finished for my sons bday party Monday and my inlaws coming to town Wednesday. (And we have a memorial and Canada 🇨🇦 Day tomorrow) QUESTION for you all though! Do you subscribe to any book boxes? What are your favourites? I'm particularly looking for any that are Canadian or don't have insane shipping costs to Canada!
Peter Darling by Austin Chant
I loved this book. Despite its short length it didn't feel to me like a clipped story. The action, romance, and emotional depth unfurled organically. This is a trans, queer retelling/sequel of Peter Pan, but it is also the Peter Pan retelling you have been waiting for. 9/10. Totally recommend.
Damn... I have to go out... When I want to stay home and keep reading this amazing Peter Pan retelling!!

Such a fantastic book! Fast-paced storytelling, beautiful writing, complex characters, queer & trans characters & the enemies-to-lovers trope that I adore. This is a retelling that is better than the original - one review I saw said this is what the Peter Pan story was always meant to be. And I agree with that 💯. READ IT! I couldn't stop smiling during most of it and occasionally wanted to cry but it's so good! #transbooks #queerbooks
Ahhhh this dedication is fantastic! I have already heard about how amazing this book is but this is even better. 💙 #queerbooks
When I was a kid, I watched Disney's Peter Pan so many times that the video tape broke and unspooled in my VHS player, breaking it as well (those were the days, eh?). All these years later, I still have a soft spot for the story, and I'm excited to read this adaption that I've heard such good things about!
