I pick this up a few months ago at Costco and just finished reading it tonight.
It may not be the best Holocaust story I've read, but it professes to be a novel of a true account, and from that standpoint I was not disappointed. In fact I appreciated the novelesque element of hope.
This novel may be a great place to start reading more, a gateway into the history.

I'd heard a lot about this book before I picked it up. I do think it meets expectations for a YA novel.
I like the way the characters develop. The title does warn you though - it's bittersweet.

I listened to this as an unabridged audiobook. I had great expectations, but I had many feelings that Dickens was paid by the word as I listened.

It's a great recovery from surgery book I don't want to go out and see any people anymore already.

The premise of the story is good and I was initially hooked. I came out of the book with a rather sharp dislike, if not hatred for the main characters. They all needed to get out of their own selfish bullshit, and there were only mediocre redemptions at the end. Maybe I'm especially jaded about others holding selfish "love" and vilifying gay people at the same time. If that is the only way you can love them (or me) fuck you, don't waste my time.

This is one of those books that would not let me put it down. I know it is an added bonus that I grew up in El Paso, I can see and feel parts of this book in my mind.

Let yourself be loved.

I lived through the 80s but was a little too young to be completely embroiled in the Holocaust that AIDS wrought. I do remember.
This was an excellent fictional read that brought back the memories.
If you didn't live through this time, you should read this.

As I was reading the book, I realized I'd seen the movie and forgotten that I'd watched it.
Of course the book is better.

I'm halfway through this book and I already recommend it.
I'm also having a surreal moment.
I hear kids screaming outside. Playing. As I'm reading about riots in another neighborhood where it's not safe for kids to play.
My heart hurts.

Wow. This was excellent. Beautiful verse and illustrations that convey so much emotion on every page!

A quick, but very powerful, read.

This was kind of fascinating.
The psychological Trope that's always been played in Peter Pan is that Captain Hook is really the Darling father. Generally, the same actor will play both.
In this book there's a twist. Peter and Wendy are the same person. Wendy is a trans boy, who becomes a real boy through Peter. This is also a m/m romance.

Great elementary school level book about a trans girl!

The best part about this book is the language. The use of English is visceral, tactile, and flat out gorgeous.
I'll be sharing this book with my neices.

I very much enjoyed this fabulous book, written from the point of view of Little, the little sister in a blended family of Black, White and Jewish. Her brother Lionel (aka Lion) has been diagnosed as having bipolar disorder and she is wondering if she is bisexual.
I can't stress enough how well this book captures these issues within these characters.
I had a Boy Scout who Lion reminded me of. The process of his discovery was very similar.

A new friend suggested these. Suzanne Collins wrote this series before the Hunger Games.
I am enjoying the series, it's quite imaginative. I would suggest this series for boys!

I am listening to the audiobook. As Carly Simon herself is reading it, it's a little more interesting. She adds music and singing to her reading.
It is a sex, rock and roll story. Interesting if you're interested.

This book was gifted to me by my longest term friend, with the comment that he figured I had time to read during my surgery recovery.
Some of the turns here were unexpected. I found it a stark example of what power and control does to society in general and people in particular.

Read this one in a day. Middle grade, nice story of a fox and his boy...and thankfully not a tearjerker.

I had just come out of surgery, and my boyfriend was watching a show about books. He recommended this book to me, so, still shaking off anaesthesia, I grabbed the kindle version.
It took me a bit to get into it, probably due to my mental state, but once I was in - what a ride.
The authors' note at the end put it over the top. I am so pleased that she took such incredible pain and created a work of art.
I'll look forward to the next installment!!

I liked it... but was a little disappointed with the ending. (Disclaimer, I read the ending twice as I was in recovery from surgery.)
