Peter & his fox Pax are separated when war comes to their community. The book rotates POVs between the 2 as they find their way back to each other. I loved this one enough to immediately find the sequel. The way Pax's POV is written is so realistic. It's a beautiful story about learning what's important to you & finding true family.

There‘s a moment when Vola reflects upon finding herself again after getting quite lost. She remembers a night when she was a child, sneaking out and eating her fill beneath a peach tree, blissed out under the light of the moon. Her core, she realizes, is joy (& simple pleasure). It triumphs over pain.

I‘m thinking of getting a peach on my shoulder; the juice beneath it will form the abstract shape of a fox.

At least I was able to decide on a winner for May! Pax won handily. In fact, I may or may not be chatting with a tattoo artist about getting a design inspired by the text. 🍑🦊

I read Pax in 2016 when I was on a middle school book award committee, then again this week for my Children‘s Literature book club for adults. I forgot how much I truly loved it! It‘s “about” a boy & his fox. It‘s *about* the human capacity for hurt but also, healing & redemption. It‘s about the transformative power of anger (both good & bad), the costs of war, the right to choose, what‘s wild & tame, found family, & the power of story. 👇🏻

Pax by Sara Pennypacker was published in 2016. The beginning of this book will definitely bring some tears to your eyes, as you read about Pax being abandoned in the woods by his owner Peter and his dad. This book is about Pax's love for Peter and his extraordinary journey he takes to find his way back to Peter. This book has won the National Book Awards 2016 for Young People's Literature, and is a great book to have in your classroom library!

This story is about a boy named Peter and his best friend, a fox named Pax. When Peter's father volunteers to go to war, Peter is forced to give up the fox he has raised since it was a kit. Peter fights with himself as he feels guilty for abandoning his friend.

Pax tells us the story of a fox who is five years old and was left as a kit. Pax gets taken in by a boy named Peter. Peters mother passed away, leaving him with his father. His dad gets enlisted into the military and tells Peter he has to get rid of Pax. Peter sends Pax back into the woods to be wild for the first time.

This book is about a young boy who owns a pet fox. As they are in the car the fox notices that his boy is upset and crying. A cry he has never seen before. He can understand some human language at this point and hears the boy telling his father “no“. The dad has enlisted in the army and is making his son let his fox go back into the wild. It is a story about the fox and the boy finding their way back to one another.

This book is a great tool to teach empathy to young children! Seems like a great read and something I would love to have in my classroom!

I loved this story! I thought it was just going to be a cute little novel about a boy and a fox, but it had so much depth to it. The journey through the feelings of loss and self-discovery was incredible. The characters were amazingly written and the growth was wonderful. I also love the cover! It‘s so pretty! The artwork on the sleeve is so pretty, and so is the actual cover of the book (a beautiful forest green with ingrained leaves). 15/10

Okay, so yes, I‘ll be giving his a 5 star rating. But holy hell, I will NEVER read this book again. It made me cry within the first five minutes, and gave me flashbacks to the first (and only times) I watched Homeward Bound + Marly and Me. I‘m always down for a good tearjerker, but I‘m a huge baby when it comes to anything related to animals. My bad for not reading the description. 😅

I admit I picked this one up because of the cover…I love foxes! This was such a good story, it was both beautiful and sad. Loved the illustrations as well.

Thursday‘s op shop purchases. The box is full of Flower Fairies stationary. I have always had a soft spot for them since my grandmother introduced me to them. I am giving the tagged book to my step daughter today. Thought I‘d read Bridgerton before I watch it.

Pax was a book that I looked into because it was realated to animals. Espeically since it had an award I thought it would be a good read. This book was about a fox trying to get back to his owner and completling changllges along the way. It didn't intrest me much because there wasn't much verbal communication in the book .Pax was a heartwarming story. There is a clearly a strong bond with Pax and his human.

Story of bravery, loss, and moving on in a wartime setting via child's eyes.

Good middle grade about a boy that has to give up his pet fox because he has to move. So good and what I needed in between the heavier books!

Some sweet exploration of identity, familial vs. extra-familial relationships, self forgiveness, and making peace with the past. But an abrupt ending that made me question what I was supposed to walk away with.

They don‘t know why I chose to read this... they know it‘s only going to make me cry... 😭

When I was in 6th grade this novel interested me, so I decided to re-read it.

As a child, Peter raised his pet fox ever since it was a kit. Unfortunately, Peter's father forced Pax into the wilderness causing separation issues. This book is filled with adventure and truly shows the strong bond between man and his best friend. Could Pax and Peter ever possibly reunite as the years go by?

Brief Summary:
This is a book about a relationship between Pax a fox and a Peter a 12 year old. The fox's home is the wild but when Peter's father has to go war Peter has to live with his grandfather away from Pax.

no matter how bad things got, we could always make ourselves new again.

I think this book tells an excellent story where fact is blended in with fiction and tells a story almost believable. I also liked how this story reflected the values of the military in the time as well as the norm of war.

I would use this book in my classroom over the course of a few weeks and I woulds read a section a day. I think this book is great for children, because it shows adventure and the strength of friendship.

I would use this in my classroom because of the interesting storyline and the adventure that the book holds.

This is historical fiction because the story is accurate and as authentic as possible. The different emotions throughout the book would help keep the attention of the students. The book tells a good story too, it is not hard to follow either. It is hard to tell that this book is fiction.

Not what I expected from a middle grades hit at all! This is definitely the most literary novel I‘ve ever read for that age range. Slow, quiet, and emotionally wrenching, I‘ve continued to think about this for days after finishing. Michael Curran-Dorsano is an excellent narrator as well if you‘re considering the audiobook!

9/10 Would read again. Learned more about the red fox than I'd ever wondered before. Good read that I enjoyed more than I expected too.
