Hair Love was written by Matthew cherry and published in 2019. This is a beautiful book that teaches a wonderful lesson to love natural hair. This book has not won an award but has been nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards Best Picture Books, NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work - Children's. Great read!

Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story was written by Kevin Noble Maillard and published in 2019. This is a beautiful book about how fry bread became apart of Native American culture. This book has won the Sibert Medal and the American Indian Youth Literature Honor Award.

Knuffle Bunny was written by Mo Willems and published in 2004. It won the Caldecott Honor Award. This book is about a young child who explore language and how communication works. Great read aloud!

The Thing About Luck by Cynthia Kadohata and Julia Kuo was published in 2013. This is a great book for older ages but can also be a read aloud for younger students. This book has won the Asian/Pacific Book Award. It is about a girl names Summer who has to learn that you make your own luck as she tries to save her family. Great read!

Queen of Physics: How Wu Chien Shiung Helped Unlock the Secrets of the Atom by Teresa Robeson was published in 2019. This is a great book about a young girl who fights through prejudice in the U.S. to become the “Queen of Physics“. This book has won the Asian/Pacific Book Award. Great read!

Something like Gravity was published in 2019 and was written by Amber Smith. This is a great chapter book for older students, and is a great book to represent the LGBTQ+ community as well. This book has won the Whippoorwill Book Award.

Houndsley and Catina written by Jame Howe was published in 2006. This book has won the E.B. White Read Aloud Award, ALA Notable Children's Book, and Kirkus Reviews Best Children's Books. It is a great book about friendship. Great read!

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate published in 2020. This is a fantastic book about a gorilla named Ivan who tries to figure out his past with an elephant named Stella. A great read aloud for older students! This book has won the John Newbery Award. Great read!

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein in 1964 is a classic read aloud for any age group. This book is great for teaching morals. In the book, a tree loves a little boy so much they give every part of themselves to show their love. This book has won the 1974 New York Times Outstanding Book Award winner. Great read aloud!

Keepunumuk: Weeaachumun's Thanksgiving Story by Danielle Hill was published in 2022. This is a great alternative book that gives a more realistic version of Thanksgiving. It is great for learning more about Native American culture, and has characters based on real life people! This book has won the New England Book Award. Great read aloud for Thanksgiving!

The Daring Tale of How Eugenie Clark Dove Into History written by Jess Keating. This book was published in 2017. It is a wonderful book about a young girls passion of sharks, and how she becomes a scientist to continue her passions of exploring sharks. This book has won the Chickadee Award. Great book for any classroom!

When Jessie Came Across the Sea by Amy Hest, and P.J. Lynch was written in 1997. This book has wonderful illustrations, and a nice heartwarming story. Unfortunately, it sets unrealistic views on what happened during that time and gives false realities of America. This book has won the Winner of the Greenaway Medal and the Parent's Choice Gold Award.

Pax by Sara Pennypacker was published in 2016. The beginning of this book will definitely bring some tears to your eyes, as you read about Pax being abandoned in the woods by his owner Peter and his dad. This book is about Pax's love for Peter and his extraordinary journey he takes to find his way back to Peter. This book has won the National Book Awards 2016 for Young People's Literature, and is a great book to have in your classroom library!

The Proudest Blue was written by Ibtihaj Muhammad in 2019. It is a beautiful book to build community in the classroom, and teach children about diversity. It has won the Goodreads Choice Award for picture books, Booklist Editor's Choice: Books for Youth, Rise: A Feminist Book Project top ten, and ALSC's Notable Children's Books. It is a wonderful read aloud for a classroom!

Rescue and Jessica was written in 2018 by Patrick Downes, and Jessica Kensky. This a heart-touching true story about a woman who was a victim in the Boston Marathon bombing that had happened in 2013, and a rescue dog who helped her on her journey of being an amputee. This a a great read for any ages of children or even adults! It has won the Schneider Family Award! Great read!

Owl Moon was written in 1987 by Jane Yolen. It is a great book to use in a classroom when learning metaphors and similes! It has beautiful illustrations, and is a calming book. This book has won the Caldecott Award. Great read!

So, What's It Like to Be a Cat was written by Karla Kuskin in 2005. This an adorable book about a cat being interviewed by a young boy. This book has won the ILA/CBC Children's Choices, Bank Street Best Books of the Year, Chicago Public Library's Best of the Best, SSLI Book Award Honor Book, Washington State Book Award Winner, ASPCA Henry Bergh Book Award Winner, and the KIND Children's Book Award Honor Book. This is a great read!

Nasreen's Secret School was written in 2009 by Jeanette Winter. This book is a beautiful story that talks about losing family members to the Taliban soldiers. It talks about how young women suffered educationally, and how some were fortunate enough to secretly educate themselves without the soldiers knowing. It has won the Jane Addams Children's book award. Great read!

On Market Street was written by Arnold Lobel in 1981 and is a great book for introducing the alphabet for children. It talks about all the things you can by at a market that goes with letters of the alphabet. It has won the National Book Award. Great read for younger children's imagination!

Alanna: The First Adventure was written by Tamora Pierce in 1983. This is a wonderful fantasy book about an adventurous girl who wants to train as a knight so she swaps places with her twin brother. This book is honored with the Margaret A. Edwards Award. Great read!

Frindle was written by Andrew Clements in 1996, and is a story about a boy who engages his teacher by finding a new word. This book has won the multiple awards listed below in the comments. Great read for children!

King and King was written by Linda de Haan and Stern Nijland in 2000. This is a wonderful book that teaches diversity in the classroom. It is about a prince being forced to find a princess to marry and after looking at many princesses, he falls in love with another prince. This book has not won any awards, but I still highly recommend for a classroom read aloud!

Fables written by Arnold Lobel in 1980 is a great book that contains series of fables inside. This book has wont he Caldecott award! Great reads for children learning about fables!

Magnificent Homespun Brown: A Celebration written by Samara Cole Doyon in 2020 is a beautiful poetic book about a young girl who compares her skin and parts of her body to rivers, and trees and honey. It has won the Coretta Scott King award. It is a great book for recognizing the beauty in everything.

Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard written by Mercer Mayer in 1973 is a great Halloween book for children. It is about a wizard coming to stay at a boarding home and creating chaos for the host and guests. This book has not won any awards, but is still a great read!

Beware of the Frog written by William Bee in 2008. It is a great fictional children's book that is very humorous for children. It is about a frog and a Mrs. Collywobbles who live on the edge of the dark forrest with fearsome creatures that come to visit. This book has won the Notable Children's Book award. Great read!

Pumpkin Soup was written by Helen Cooper in 2009 is a great book for fall time in the classroom! It is about a cat, a duck, and a squirrel who live deep in the woods in an old white cabin and have an adventure to make pumpkin soup. This book has won the Kate Greenaway award. Great read!

Brown Girl Dreaming written by Jacqueline Woodson was published in 2014 and talks about the life of the author growing up in rural Southeastern Ohio. It represents a lower-income black family, and the struggles she faced. This book won a Newbery award, and is a great read!

Julian Is a Mermaid was written by Jessica Love and published in 2018. This is a beautiful book about LGBTQ+ awareness for younger children. This book also represents the Spanish language and culture. It has won the Stonewall book award. Great book for the classroom to represent diversity!

Written by Carole Lindstorm in 2020, We are Water Protectors is a great read for children to learn more about North American culture and the tragedy they faced during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. This book won the Golden Kite, and the Caldecott award. Great read for children!

Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend written by Dan Santat was published in 2014, and is a wonderful book to enhance children's imaginations. Beekle steps out of his comfort zone, and sets out for an adventure to find his person. It helps give children hope that they too will find their person like Beekle had done, and that sometimes it is okay to step out of the comfort zones. This book has won the Caldecott award. Amazing book!

Jabari Jumps was written by Gaia Cornwall in 2017, and is such a great read for children who need confidence boosts. This book talks about the anxiety that comes with trying new things, and how Jabari used his parent's support to gain confidence to overcome his fears of jumping off the diving board. Great read for young children!

Down, Down the Mountain by Ellis Credle is one of my favorite reads for the classroom. It was written 1934, and is still holds such a great book for children from Appalachian backgrounds. Hank and Hetty need new shoes, but their family has no money so they have to plant turnips to sell to get money to buy new shoes. This book has won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. Great to read for children!

I'm Sticking With You by Smriti Halls is a wonderful book for younger children who are struggling making friends. It is a great read for the beginning of the school year when the children do not fully know each other yet. It also has a great moral lesson about how to be a good friend. This book was written in 2021 so it can help the children who was socially impacted by Covid. This book has not won any awards yet.

We Don't Eat Our Classmates was written by Ryan T. Higgins. This book came out in 2018, and is a great book for children who are starting school. It can ease some anxiety children may have, and let them have a good laugh. This book has not won an award, but the author is a known award winning author/illustrator! Great read!

Written by Ezra Jack Keats, Snowy Day is one of the first children's book to have a black protagonist. This book was written in 1962, and is still a great read for the first snowfall of the year! It is a book that takes us through what children typically do on a snow day. This book has won a Caldecott award. Great read for children!

Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag is a very cute book to read. It is more for entertainment than have a moral lesson, but can be a good read aloud for spare time in a classroom. This book was written in 1928, but still is still a wonderful book for children today. This book has also won the Newbery award!

Written by Dorothy Kunhardt in 1940, Pat the Bunny is one of the first interactive read aloud for young children. This book has generationally enhanced children's mind and is one of the first memories of literature for children. This book has won the Scholastic Parent & Child 100 Greatest Books for Kids. Great read for young children!

The book, When Sadness is at Your Door, written and illustrated by Eva Eland is a great book for children social and emotional well-being. It validates their feelings and brings awareness to mental health. This book has won the Klaus Flugge Prize in 2020, and the V&A award. Great read!

Kitten‘s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes published in 2004 is a great Kindergarten or 1st grade book! It is about a kitten‘s first experience with the moon. The adventure the kitten goes on is great for igniting children‘s imagination. This book received the Caldecott award, which is justifiable because the illustrations are exquisite throughout the whole book. It is a great read for children!
