pickChaol was away any least favorite character of this series, but I found myself liking this story despite him. The action, world building, and in-world politics were engaging and the stars are aligning for the series to wrap up strong!

pick🌟🌟🌟🌟 — This is only book 2 of the series and it already feels like I've been following these characters forever. The plot is engaging, but the cast is far and above the highlight of this series. Each has a unique voice and complex motivations. This book pushed them all to their limits and the authors never took the easy way out with their writing. There's high energy action, drama, moral ambiguity, and cliffhangers to boot!
pick🌟🌟🌟🌟 — This book has been living rent-free in my head for three years so I had to re-read! It‘s a beautifully insightful own voices story and an ingenious adaptation of a classic story. James and Peter were interested characters that tapped into the ideas of escapism, nostalgia, growing up, and finding your true self. Do yourself a favor and pick this up!
pick🌟🌟🌟🌟 — This takes a lot of tropes of a rag-tag teenage crew saving the world, but it's done so well. The characters are all complex, but their depth is revealed slowly through the book so you really get to figure them out along with the world and unfolding plot. High energy action and a great cast. I‘m hooked for book 2!
pick🌟🌟 — I was sadly disappointed with this one. There were too many characters for me to be invested in their drama or relationships. Without that hook, there wasn‘t the same drama or suspense as the first book. I‘ll look out for other work by this author!

pickWhat a way to wrap up the series! The middle books dragged a bit, but this was action packed and character driven. I loved the political intricacies of all of the alliances of people ready to backstab each other at a moment‘s notice. It also handled a lot of dystopian tropes in new and creative ways. Worth reading if you started but never finished the series.

so-so⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A lot of people have called this their guilty pleasure read and I completely agree. The plot and the romance and fun and engaging, but the dystopian element is as flimsy as a cardboard wall. If the author put an ounce more effort into world building I would have taken it seriously. But on the plus side, the premise of The Selection has all the juicy drama of watching The Bachelor.

Not only is the plot complex and engaging, but the characters are incredibly diverse, serious issues like sexuality and mental health are explored respectfully, and Puck and Connor are honestly some of my favorite MCs of all time! pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — What a way to end a series! It‘s a wild ride through moral ambiguity, action, politics, love, loss, and some good old fashioned space fights! Every character from the previous MCs, to the grunt soldiers of the enemies, to the murderous AI is engaging to read. You could see some twists coming, but that never made them pack less of a punch. I‘m so glad Illuminae Files went out with a bang!
pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — How a novella has complete world building and a slow-burn romance in 98 pages, I don't know, but it really does. The magic of the world is cool. Roy and Cecily were also fantastic leads. This plot works so beautifully as there's so much richness to the metaphors of being at conflict with your own physical body. Dark in some places, but definitely a great read!
