As I started reading From a Buick 8 by Stephen King, I couldn‘t keep my mind from thinking about one of his earliest novels, Christine. These novels turn out to be quite different from one another. The Buick 8 is also a creepy and bizarre piece of machinery that only King can create.

This was such a surprise. Any time Stephen King writes about cars, I think it will result in an entry that just isn't for me due to a lack of interest in the source material on my part. Trust Stephen King to always make the cars he writes about as interesting and alluring as possible. The titular Buick in this story is a fascinating enigma, and will draw you in as surely as Ned and his father before him. Excellent storytelling all around. 4/5

Titolo poco noto che cela tuttavia una storia in cui la tensione è dosata benissimo. Grande prova autoriale per Stephen King, che riesce a non perdersi in lungaggini per una volta. Recensione completa: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgG07Unsxse/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't love it, which is why it's a so-so. King delivers a great story of a possessed car which reads like a story within a story. This was more a supernatural mystery read than horror, although it certainly has its creepy moments.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4y
llcoolnate The book that made me stop reading King 4y
Addison_Reads @llcoolnate It's definitely not his usual writing, and I still love his earlier works more, but with King, good or bad I'll still read it. 4y

I finally finished this one, baby steps closer to my goal of reading the complete Stephen along catalogue. I‘m surprised that I don‘t hear more about this one which deserved way more traction than it got. It was deeply unsettling and I loved it.

A super cool thing about getting older is that I have trouble sleeping sometimes. Today, wide awake at 3am. I‘m reading and here is Lucy. She is our oldest cat, a rescue, and very skittish. We think was abused early in life. Boy does she love her bed cuddles though. She‘s just working up the nerve to come over.

1) The tagged, also The Hunger by Alma Katsu, Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker, and Red Moon by Benjamin Percy.

2) The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline

3) Being judged for spine cracking. It‘s meant to be read! I always respect if the book is borrowed but owned books and library books are fair game. #controversial

After potentially the longest week of all time, it‘s Saturday morning and I have a sore throat and it‘s snowing again 😫😫😫 I‘m going to scroll Litsy while I drink tea and my husband makes me some breakfast. How do you all balance reading time with Litsy scrolling? I feel like I miss so much but I also want to be reading.

DGRachel I don‘t balance it well, but I try not to worry about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That snow looks miserable. I hope you feel better soon! 5y
Karkar I alternate between the two. Hope you feel better soon, sore throats are the worst. 5y
valeriegeary I always try to read at least 30 minutes for every 10 min on litsy. 😂🙌🏻 5y
Centique I‘m in a hot summer drought at the moment - wouldn‘t it be nice if we could swap places for an afternoon - I‘d love to be cold for a bit! Like you @Karkar I have days when I‘m just scrolling Litsy and then days when I‘m busy reading and don‘t touch it. Otherwise I‘d never finish a book! 😂 5y
Cathythoughts I usually scroll in the morning & I learn so much & am inspired to read more ... usually read later in the day. Litsy has increased my reading so much , & the scrolling is all part of it 5y

I went into reading this a little skeptical. A "possessed" car? I didn't know how stephen king was going to pull this one off, but he sure did. From the very first page I was hooked. The format was a little different: a story within a story. But I found myself unable to put the book down, wanting to know more about the story being told, how it was going to end. It's not one of his best stories, but its one that will keep your interest.

Middle of the road King. A story about obsession, fathers and sons and a portal to another dimension. Creepy, weird but with enough heart to keep you invested in the fate of these characters. Decent book, not his worst but nowhere near his best.

D is for Dodge, as in the van that hit him in 1999. King bought it so that no one else could. He intended to take a sledgehammer to it, but it wound up being compacted.
King struggled both with his physical rehab & with writing after the accident. There was a time he thought he would retire. But thankfully he put that behind him. In fact, he seems to be writing at breakneck speed these days. And thank God for that.
#KingAtoZ

TrishB Great pick 👍🏻 7y
dariazeoli Could you imagine if he had retired? So many great stories have come since that horrible day. 7y
AmyG Ah...I didn‘t know it was a Dodge. I remember when this happened. :( 7y
Sweettartlaura @dariazeoli I really couldn‘t - he hadn‘t even finished the Dark Tower series. Some day we‘ll have to live without him. But while he‘s alive, I‘m extremely grateful he keeps writing. 7y

This was a little different for King. Not horror at all. More like supernatural mystery. The characters and their stories are really the heart of this book. I like how the story is told from their different perspectives. I highly recommend the audiobook. There are different narrators for each of the main characters and it's really well done. The narrator who read Sandy was especially great. King checklist: 19 out of 69.

This was one of my least favorite King books, but it was still enjoyable. The story was more about life and relationships than about the car really.

It's been some time since I have read this book. I first read it in middle school and loved it since. I never lend this book out to anyone, it's life is like my own. I wouldn't give this book up for a million years or a million dollars. It is what got me reading and helped me through all of my speech therapy, special needs education, the battle of autism. I don't know how else to explain it. Nor am I going to try to. #stephenking #horror

Inspired by #StephenKing17, I am delving into the master's backlist. This novel is a bit chubby about the midsection, but it is bookended by some truly moving passages about aging, grief, and the horrors of mankind when faced with the unknown. This is a supernatural tale with an oblique conclusion and stock characters, but its story of common people confronted with otherworldly forces contains some of King's best themes. An underrated, rough gem.

RohitSawant Great review! This one is still on my TBR. 8y

#StephenKing17 #day7 #DNF I've never not finished a King novel, he could write an essay on artichokes and I'd read it, but this is my least favourite novel of his. I'm not sure if it's the actual story, I love Christine, or its the format of it. I think it's format, because it's written like a collection of short stories about the same object, and I'm not a huge lover of short stories. Though I do love his Skeleton Crew & Night Shift books.🤷🏻‍♀️

Josie I felt the same about this one, even though I did finish it! 8y

Catch-22: I know Catch-22 is a stretch but 1) I freaking love this book 2) It's hilarious 3) It's about a bombardier, you know the guy that releases bombs from planes, during World War II (see planes) so there you go! #photoadaynov16

Really long and tedious. The story spans 25 years, but nothing is answered at the end. If you think you would enjoy endless detail of a car that isn't really a car, you might enjoy this one.
