Thank you @dabbe for the tag 💞

I did worse on this week's 13% BUT it was interesting to see how many movies were remakes decades later.

Faves:
Mighty Joe Young (I miss monster movie Sundays)
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Karate Kid (I want Mr Myiagi's backyard)

#ThreeListThursday #TLT

dabbe Our scary movies aired on late Saturday nights after 12 PM. Nightmare on Elm Street still scares the beejesus out of me! LOVE The Karate Kid. Thanks for playing and sharing! 🖤🧡🖤 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe Same with my scary movies! But monster movies (King Kong, Godzilla etc) were on Sundays and holidays 👹🧡 1mo
dabbe @TheBookgeekFrau Excellent distinction! Thanks! And you are so right--we also had monster movies, but those were usually the Saturday TV matinee or after. I remember watching THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON on a Saturday, and I was scared for months! 🤩 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau @dabbe The only horror movie I remember from my single digit years was The Blob and being terrified more bc my father used to tell the jelly monster would come if I stayed up too late 🙄🤣 Godzilla would make me sad and worried for him! I didn't quite understand that when he went back into the ocean he was going home. I'd cry myself to sleep for days; until I worried about the jelly monster again😂😂 1mo
dabbe @TheBookgeekFrau I think the idea of monsters in literature and movies stays with us more than the heroes do sometimes! 😂 1mo

First time doing this, and there was a surprising learning curve 🫣😂

Top 3?
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Dark Knight
Anything Harry Potter related..

Also, I had a low‘ish number… only 57/140! But I noticed that while I picked a lot in the beginning, it tapered off to almost nothing sharply after my son was born… 🤔😜

Thanks for the tag @MaleficentBookDragon !😘

@dabbe This week‘s #TLT was great! Memory lane of the movies we watched with the kids again and again! These are my three favorites but I could add about 20 more! #ThreeListThursday. Happy Thursday!

I‘d love people the play, see @dabbe original post for the link to play. 🍿 🎥❤️

Thank for the tag @dabbe #TLT - 90‘s movies were harder to narrow to favorites for me but what a great list! A Bug‘s Life gets special mention as it was my oldest daughter‘s favorite and my mom really went the extra to get her the VHS tape and the little figurines, it‘s a great kids movie with a nice message of team work❤️ and where was Good Will Hunting? A personal #1!

dabbe AUGH! How could they leave off GOOD WILL HUNTING? 💚 your choices. Thanks for playing and sharing! 🤩🤩🤩 5mo

dabbe I used DEAD POETS SOCIETY when teaching Transcendentalism and Romanticism in junior English. One of my best units ever! Thanks for sharing! 🤩🤩🤩 6mo

🍿What are your favourites? So many! Elf, Miracle on 34th Street (1947 & 1994), A Christmas Story, Love Actually, The Family Stone, It‘s a Wonderful Life, The Holiday, Christmas in Connecticut, The Last Holiday…

🍿Do you have any seasonal traditions? I try to watch most of the above movies over the holiday season & I always watch Bridget Jones Diary between Christmas & New Years.
⬇️

DebinHawaii … 🍿What films bring you comfort and joy? All of the above + the Rankin/Bass Christmas Specials like (my favorite) The Year Without a Santa Claus & Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer because they remind me of happy childhood Christmases. ❤️💚❤️ 11mo

📽️ any more, I just don‘t watch much. But it depends on the movie. Mostly I watch at home.

🖊️ other that reading & writing, I still cross-stitch and do jigsaw puzzles

🥡 dine out or more likely, DoorDash – I hate cooking

Eggs I love cooking but not cleaning up 🤷‍♀️! Thanks for playing 🩷 1y
wanderinglynn @Eggs I will happily come live with you and do dishes/clean-up for homemade meals! 😆 1y
MissyD 1). Movies at home. I don‘t watch much tv anymore. 2) Crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, 3) I prefer dining out. I cook at home. My husband and son clean the mess. 1y

Thank you @Eggs for the #WondrousWednesday tag 🤗

1️⃣ Impossible to choose 1-here are my top 4 that I can quote from & drop EVERYTHING & watch just because or when I need a laugh or smile: Galaxy Quest, The Princess Bride, Best in Show & The Philadelphia Story 🎬

2️⃣ I watched Damsels in Distress (2011) on Hulu last night because… Greta Gerwig & Whit Stillman (Metropolitan, Love & Friendship) 🍿

3️⃣ Without getting too depressing, my wishes ⬇️

DebinHawaii … & prayers remain with the people of Maui🌺 especially those still missing/unaccounted for & their loved ones. Praying for some positive outcomes or at least some closure for their families. 🙏🏼💜 1y

1. I usually hate book to movie adaptations if I loved the book. So probably Gone Girl - I thought the movie was actually slightly better than the book which almost never happens! 😱
2. Closer - with Natalie Portman and Jude Law, not sure why exactly but I thought it was fantastic. I also love historical films like The Duchess - mostly because of the costumes 😍😍
3. Bring it On! Love Actually! Bridget Jones‘ Diary 😊
4. Candy 🍬

@Bostonmomx2 - I know I'm a little late with my contribution for #5movies, but after seeing @readsusieread's post, I couldn't help but join in ?
.
These are movies that I would gladly watch over and over again with "The Goonies" being my absolute, number 1 favorite.
.
There were a few others that I wanted to include - Big Fish, Stranger Than Fiction, Pleasantville, Love Actually, Practical Magic, The Fifth Element, so so many ?

Bostonmomx2 Pleasantville was so weirdly good!! 7y
Librariana @Bostonmomx2 - Right!?? I think I'm drawn to movies and books with that magical realism aspect... and definitely to romantic comedies 😄😊 7y
Librariana @Bostonmomx2 - I also should've added Clue, The Notebook, Notting Hill, Star Wars: The Force Awakens to the honorable mentions list! 7y

Maleficent would have been on this movie if the prince hadn't shown up in the final scene. That was so against the heart of the story, but I do 💜💜💜 it other than that.

Redjewel_7734 @Mamashep Me too! That's why I was so disappointed he showed back up at the end? The whole point is that a woman's happily ever after isn't dependent on a boy/man. I just thought that last little cameo took away from the power of the story. 7y
MemoirsForMe Beaches! 😊🙌🏻 7y
readinginthedark I feel like they had to keep the prince in the movie, though, because he was part of the story. It was supposed to be "this is what really happened behind the scenes" without changing the bones of the original, I think. 7y
Redjewel_7734 @readinginthedark maybe, but I also think there is power in rejecting the old story and showing the truth that Prince Charming isn't necessary for happily ever after no matter what lies the fairy tales have been telling girls throughout the ages. 7y
readinginthedark Agreed. It's a delicate balance to find. 7y

My top five movies (I count Harry Potter as one😊)
⭐️John Wick - best movie Keanu Reeves ever made!
⭐️Practical Magic - that house!
⭐️The Great Race - Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk. Enough said.
⭐️The Harry Potter series - no better medicine when I'm sick
⭐️Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - subtitled not dubbed. Such a lyrical, beautiful movie especially in Mandarin. I can't understand it but it's poetry on screen.

Anyway, long story short, she went to school with Will. Said she couldn't stand him irl from what she knew of him. Haha I could never understand why since in his films he's hilariously wonderful. 7y
Cinfhen That's so disappointing to hear @monkeygirlsmama I always assumed Will was a super chill guy 🙁 7y
monkeygirlsmama @Cinfhen Maybe just drastically different personalities too. Either way, I still love him, even if she can't stand to watch his movies. 😜 7y
LauraBeth ❤️ all these! 7y
Mamashep Elf, of course, should be rewatched at least a couple of times a year! 7y
Cinfhen Most definitely @Mamashep 😊You have excellent taste @LauraBeth 💕💕 7y

🔹My top favorite is You've Got Mail 😊 I don't know how many times I've watched this movie. Well, don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies 😬
🔹Sleepless in Seattle - Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, the late 90s top romcom couple
🔹84 Charing Cross Road - because it's Helene Hanff 😘
🔹Bill Cunningham NY - I'm a big fan of Bill. I miss him!😢
🔹Little Women - is a must for Christmas

Because I'm a rule breaker (not really), I chose six movies instead is #5movies! I only own three of these titles, but if any of them happen to be on TV, suddenly no reading gets done.

Bostonmomx2 Nice list!! 7y
LisaJo National treasure… If it's on the world stops. 7y
TheWordJar Yes @LisaJo 🙌 In honor of the 4th of July, we introduced the kids to the joy that is National Treasure this year. My husband and I enjoyed it so much more than they did, and we had to bite our tongues to keep from reciting every line. 7y

EchoLogical I love Anastasia too! @Liatrek There's a live action version?! 😵 7y
See All 10 Comments
Liatrek @EchoLogical There is a old movie with Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brenner and there was a mini series in the late 80s with Amy Irving both great! 7y
Mamashep My daughter and I just watched Anastasia not long ago and can still sing along to all of the songs after a dozen years! 7y
mangokittty @Liatrek Oh, I've never seen the live action one. I'll have to look that up and watch it. Me too! I get so whimsical at the Once Upon A December song. 7y
mangokittty @Mamashep I read somewhere where people were trashing the music. I was so irritated. Like no the songs are so catchy. 7y
Mamashep @mangokittty they really are! 7y
Liatrek @mangokittty I have that soundtrack it's so great! And I love her blue dress she wears to the ballet! 7y
mangokittty @Liatrek OMG me too! There white one there was a short modern replica on Etsy and I should have bought it. It was so cute. 7y

I've watched each of these movies more often than I can count and Goemon is still my hardest movie crush ever ?So here are #5movies which are among my all-time-favs:
1) Kirschblüten (Cherryblossoms), by Doris Dörrie
2) Howl's moving castle
3) Shinigami no seido (Sweet Rain)
4) In the mood for love
5) Goemon

Thanks @Bostonmomx2 for the fun idea ?

Bostonmomx2 Wow, I've never heard of these 😀 7y
batsy In the Mood for Love ❤️ Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are divine 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Nice! I LOVE Goemon, In The Mood for Love, and all things Miyazaki. Have you seen Casshern from the director of Goemon? (edited) 7y
See All 6 Comments
Tsubame @batsy They really are! It was hard to choose between In the mood for love and Hero, but in the mood for love is a true piece of art and the music is also amazing, while Hero is more of a visual feast. 7y
Tsubame @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Miyazaki (or generally Ghibli) movies are dreams turned into wonderful animation! Princess Mononoke is another of my favs. I tried Casshern, but the atmosphere was too dense and depressing for me and I didn't finish it tbh 😣 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Yeah, that is a pretty accurate description of Casshern! Visually stunning though! 7y

Five movies I love - and can (and most definitely do) watch over and over again. I also feel the need to point out that I also have the soundtracks/scores for all five. 😁

I could also add: The Ref, The Princess Bride, Go!, Pride & Prejudice, and so many more...

"5 movies you love and can and do watch over and over" (Pictured are the movies we've unpacked so far.) I had a really hard time narrowing this down, so I tried to pick the five I've re-watched the most in the last year that aren't based on books (as far as I know), in no particular order:
1. Serenity
2. Away We Go
3. Domino
4. The Dark Crystal
5. Fifth Element

Honorable mention: EVERYTHING this was so hard!!! ? #5movies

Avanders Ooh some good ones! I especially love Serenity and The Fifth Element! 7y
Crystalblu Great picks!!! I love all these movies! And Away We Go is one of my all time favorite romantic movies! 7y
becausetrains Why have I seen Serenity but not Firefly 😢💫🚀 7y

readinginthedark @Avanders I know! Two of the best sci-fi action movies! 😊 7y
readinginthedark @Crystalblu Isn't it amazing? Most people I talk to haven't seen it. 😕 7y
readinginthedark @becausetrains I actually saw Serenity first, when it first came out in theatres. But you can remedy not seeing Firefly now! It's only one season, so it won't take long, and your life will be forever changed. Definitely my favorite TV series of all time. Maybe your library has it? 7y
Bostonmomx2 👍👍 7y
EchoLogical Serenity! 7y
Gezemice The Fifth Element is one of my guilty pleasures. So fun! 7y
