#TLT #ThreeListThursday @dabbe

I was a late bloomer for horror. I didn't watch much until college.

Saw was the movie that got me into the genre. It's not as graphic as people remember/assume, and the mystery is well done.

John Carpenter's The Thing is peak, edge-of-your-seat, sci-fi chills (and a legendary Drew Struzan poster)

The Descent is creepy and claustrophobic, with a strong female cast that smashes the Bechdel test.

JenniferEgnor The Descent is one of my favorites! 4d
Prairiegirl_reading I‘m so claustrophobic The Descent scared me so much I had to leave the room before it even gets to the scary stuff! I‘m such a chicken! 4d
TieDyeDude @jenniferEgnor @prairiegirl_reading I am not claustrophobic, but The Descent makes a strong case for being so! 4d
dabbe You're a late bloomer? I'm still blooming! I have never seen SAW, but based on what you wrote, perhaps I could handle it! Fab choices. Thanks for sharing. 📽️🖤🍿 3d

Burton aficionados will recognize any number of visual ideas that are wrapped into his later work, especially The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Pickpick

This was a cute book that fanatics of the movie should enjoy. I would compare it to watching an old episode of A&E‘s Biography where they were relatively lightweight stuff. However, it genuinely seems that everyone in the cast and crew got along so well and that filming went down without any major issues to the point there wasn‘t much juice to report. I enjoyed the stories about William Goldman visiting the set and Andre the most!

SheReadsAndWrites I listened to the audiobook and loved it. 🙂 3w
TheAromaofBooks I loved the way this book just felt like a friendly reminisce instead of a gossip column, if that makes sense haha Also, I have had a bit of a family crisis this week, but have every intention of posting your Trapped in a Spooky House picks very soon!! 3w
JoeMo @TheAromaofBooks That definitely makes sense, but I had to laugh and shake my head a bit when I realized the ATV-related toe injury was going to be the most controversial part of making the film!😂 I hope your family is okay and there‘s absolutely no rush on the Trapped in a Spooky House list. Like literally you could drop the list on 9/30 at 11:59 pm and it would be all good 👍 3w

Surely You Can't Be Serious: The True Story of Airplane! | David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker

Pickpick

In 1977, this hilarious trio took their 1st film(Kentucky Fried Movie)to any & all college audiences. That‘s when I interviewed them for my campus newspaper. They‘ve cracked me up ever since! Their comedy is both groundbreaking & irreverent. Backstories about Airplane, the cast and die-hard fans are a hoot! The flow of the interviews with the film history is a bit wonky. But if you can quote any lines from this crazy movie, you‘ll love this book.

MemoirsForMe David and Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams must have started the trend for celebrity cameos in movies simply by having the nerve to ask! Even Ethel Merman and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said: “Why not!” 2mo
Ruthiella I loved this movie and every other vehicle it spawned with Leslie Nielsen or Lloyd Bridges. And please, don‘t call me Shirley! 😜 2mo
KellyHamHer @Ruthiella my family still quotes this line to this day!! 2mo

TheBookHippie Oh how fun!!! 2mo
AmyG Oh wow! I remember so well seeing this with friends and how we all laughed and laughed. 2mo
MemoirsForMe @Ruthiella Me too! Leslie was so grateful to these writers for launching his career. They also created Police Squad and The Naked Gun movies. Beau and Jeff Bridges loved seeing their Dad in a comedy for a change. Lloyd had a blast! 2mo
MemoirsForMe @KellyHamHer Us too! 😄 2mo
MemoirsForMe @TheBookHippie It feels so good to laugh and this book had quite a few! 😄 2mo
MemoirsForMe @AmyG I somehow knew you‘d remember this one! This book brought back so many memories for me too. Hard to believe it came out 45 years ago. 😂 2mo
TheBookHippie Laughter is such medicine currently. 2mo
