Can Veta Mae complete the first leg of training to become a Godseer?
Stay tuned to find out. And good luck to you on your journey if you are also at #orilium this year.

I'm really enjoying this series. In the 2nd one, China wants Temeraire to return; so him, Laurence and their crew set off to Temeraire's place of birth 🐉

I'm a little late but here's Day 1 for #TarotTakeover
The beginning of this book, which I'm currently reading, completely covers the nine of swords for the main character Laurence, his dragon and Britain at large since its set during the Napoleonic Wars.
Also the first one was really good 🐉

September #doublespin done! @TheAromaofBooks
I enjoyed continuing on with this series. A large part of this book is the characters travelling, so it has a bit of a slower pace, but I don't mind that. Looking forward to the next book!
Also using for the #fourfoursin21 elevation prompt, as I realized belatedly partway through book 2 that flying dragonback definitely gives some elevation... @Lauredhel

Jade: a green gemstone.
I‘m enjoying listening to this series throughout the year. 🐉
Finished ✅
An entertaining installment for Temeraire!
I was wondering where the story was going, but I did hope it would result in Temeraire and Lawrence going back to England. All turned out well and to all parties involved satisfaction.

Slow paced, but thoroughly enjoyable. Temeraire is a brilliant character

3rd time reading this series and I still just can‘t get enough
Y‘all these stories are so sweet! Finished the first Amin a day and a half now on to the next
My husband is taking the kids and giving me a day to read tomorrow! I picked my stack a couple of weeks ago, and they've been sitting next to my bed, where I've been admiring how pretty they look together. 😍 #booknerdalert
It took me awhile to get into this sequel, just because it was very heavy on navy and ship settings (this is why it took me so long to get this series in the first place). But they're back on land and discussing aviation again.
Mulan, featuring actual dragons.
Not quite as good as the first but I still really enjoyed this follow up to His Majesty‘s Dragon, in which our heroes travel to China, where Temeraire‘s egg originated. The mashup of Pern and Aubrey/Maturin I didn‘t even know I needed. Novik is A+ at developing character relationships. I wish everyone did this so well.
Finished a nonfiction and now I'm in the mood for dragons. My dad is going to be so annoyed that I'm not reading Shantaram, but I need something easy right now and I'm just not up to reading and dragging around a 10 lbs. tome. Reader guilt is real. What books and for what reasons do you feel guilty?
I didn‘t like this one as much as the first. I really like the relationship between Temeraire and Laurence, but this book didn‘t have as much witty Temeraire dialogue. Slow pace. But the audio reader is fantastic!
I love days where I can read with the window open listening to the rain 🌧 hit the trees 🌳 while sipping on my coffee ☕️ #PerfectDay #LoveToRead #CoffeeIsMySpiritAnimal 😊 #BookNerd 📚💙
Visited my family in Switzerland and found time to read during a two day stay in a cabin in the mountains. Tomorrow I go back to work, for the first time since my husband passed away in May. I‘m glad I took some time off to process, be with friends and family, attend Buddhist teachings in NYC and Toronto, putter, and read. I am determined to grieve with an open heart and mind and am grateful to have the supports I need. ❤️
This was good. Perhaps a little slower than the first in places but there was enough building to a boil to keep the book flowing through background. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh Temeraire, you darling little dragon...
If I finish this tonight it will be my 40th finished book of the year so far.
It's 1am. I have tea and the need to sleep. I think we know what that means.
#ItsSoLateItsEarly reading!
Not saying I'm immediately going to start reading this... But I'm immediately going to start reading this. I have to know what happens!
Holiday reading - more napoleonic wars with dragons. I loved the first book
I fell in love with Temeraire the dragon in the first book, so I plan to enjoy my time with book 2 of the series. 🐲
Why isn't there a dragon emoji?
Bedtime reads!! 🎉😴🐲 I tried to find the cover to match my Temeraire copy (first book in this series) but sadly the seller I bought this one and the third book off had the right picture displayed but this was what arrived in the post 😓 I am too excited to continue the story to care too much right now, but if I happen to bump into the other one on my book travels then... #Dragons #4Lyf #ThroneOfJade #NaomiNovik

Just started the second book in the Temeraire Series! I love all things dragons! Does anyone have any draconic suggestions for my tbr? #dragons #temeraire #naominovik #hobbit #smaug #beowulf #tolkien #jrrtolkien #gameofthrones #songoficeandfire #georgerrmartin #anaturalhistoryofdragons #mariebrennan
I agree with others that this seems to be a bit of a soggy middle of a 3-part series.
However, I'm guessing this was all necessary setup to change the world (...they're going to change the world, right?) as Laurence really needed to be shown there's another way of doing things; until he saw it for himself, Tem's thoughts could seem naive.
Thing that confused me: given the fuss that was made about L's lineage, why wasn't that the out used?
A good sequel, though on a star rating it'd be a 4 out of 5. The voyage to China dragged on a bit long in places for me. Once they got to China it picked up nicely.
I particularly liked the description of Chinese society with dragons. The bit with the sad, poor working class dragon in Peking made me unhappy. I halfway expected Lawrence to buy him a pig or something, as he's shown kindnesses like that to other dragons before when possible.
2017 #49 fantasy audio this is such a well crafted world and the characters so real. Very fun. +
Temeraire just gets more likable, as does his Captain, Laurence.
I do believe I will do this whole series on audio... Simon Vance is so good!
Naomi Novik writes beautifully, and there is a lot of detail in this book. Lots of action and adventure, and I'm totally invested in Laurence and Temeraire's story.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Started today on audio. I really love that this second book wasted no time setting up background info from the first. Refreshing!
Great way to spend an evening: a Temeraire book, my cat, and a glass of absinthe (not shown).
A great read as usual. Fans of Master and Commander would enjoy this series. It is the same time period, but with dragons.
We follow Laurence and Temeraire on their way to China. This is more a coming of age story then a naval action historical story. Here, Temeraire is going home to discover his roots and Laurence goes with him in the hopes of being allowed to keep Temeraire with him in England. Both Temeraire and Laurence do a lot of growing up in this. It's as interesting and fun to read as the first one but with less action and more of a inner journey feeling.
I did enjoy this - pure escapism, Sharpe with dragons. If I'm honest, stuffy uptight Laurence is starting to irritate just a little, but Temeraire is so splendid that it doesn't matter. Looking forward to the next instalment.
The journey through ToJ is a long, eventful, and challenging one but I closed the book with a smile. Wonderful Temeraire is still gradually maturing and I loved following along. Even with 7 books left, I was worried at times about the Temeraire and Laurence dynamic duo and what might become of them.
Spent my day reading on the beach at Lake Michigan. Hello, summer.
