A well-worked British police procedural, with believably fallible investigating officers and a good deal of red-herringery on the way to a denouement that brought many (most) of the threads together. Some of the bit-part players felt a bit like ciphers, but this didn't detract from the detailed and well developed MCs. A good read.

I did enjoy this - pure escapism, Sharpe with dragons. If I'm honest, stuffy uptight Laurence is starting to irritate just a little, but Temeraire is so splendid that it doesn't matter. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Read this during a six-hour plane journey, and enjoyed it hugely. Well written, intriguing, and a very effective diversion from sitting in the runway for three hours waiting to take off... Echoes of CJ Sansom. Recommended.

Really enjoyed this - the level of research about India in the early 19thC was evident in the rich detail, and the precarious relationship between the main characters, although a little formulaic in the early sections of the book, developed nicely. The story itself is somewhere between Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones, with plenty of intrigue, jewels and flashing swords. Recommended.
