Just dropped my kids off for their first day of school (1st grade and preschool). The house is so strangely quiet! Now Mommy's feeling a little emotional, so I'm going to sit on the porch and read to distract myself. 😊
Anyone else have a copy of this book like this? Is it intentional? I actually haven't started reading yet, so maybe it will make sense with the story. Or maybe it's a publishing mistake. 🤷🏻♀️
I was in the mood for a middle grade binge, so I had a lot of fun at the library this week. Which one should I start with?
P. 107 I can't even imagine going through all this as a mother, but I have a feeling I would not be nearly as strong as Reha's mother is. And I love this image. #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
P. 101 I love seeing this pivotal moment in Reha's life. It's a change, but it's still true to who she is. #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
This is a beautiful book, in both words and illustrations. I expected it to be a pretty text-heavy picture book, but it definitely wasn't. You could tell each word was chosen with care, and they're so powerful. The illustrations evoke such an atmosphere. What did you think, @BucklingBookshelves ? #buddyread
Page 186. I like this Rabbit motif that keeps showing up. It applies to our boring lives here on Earth, as well as a girl on a distant planet surrounded by the Collective. Life is a journey, and you only know what's out there if you try. #buddyread @BucklingBookshelves
P. 63 As I'm sure it's meant to, this applies to so much more than just rocks! #buddyread @BucklingBookshelves
@BucklingBookshelves Got my library hold! Are you ready for a #buddyread sometime soon? 😊
I've got the book! Although once again, I have to finish my book club book before I can read it. Hopefully this weekend... What works for you? #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
So, so obvious when she says it like that. But how often do we think about it like that? That's certainly not the prevalent view in our culture, although I know there are efforts being made to change that. A brain is not as easily understood or treated as a broken bone, but it is treatable!

God bless Nevaeh! What a good friend she was through this whole book. Amazingly tuned in to what Della needs. How do I raise my kids to be this compassionate of a friend?? #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
I was a teacher for ten years. It breaks my heart to think about all the little cries for help that I surely missed. Hopefully, none of my students went through what Della is, but I know there must have been things like this that I missed. (Page 11) #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
Got it, @BucklingBookshelves ! I've got to finish my book club book by Friday. 😬 Maybe we could start this weekend?
#buddyread
Here's the quote I marked, @BucklingBookshelves . Thought-provoking!
I really enjoyed the unique setting of this book. I often pay attention to the cover of a book, but they don't usually influence me the way the cover of this one did. I could imagine the city so easily. I liked the message the book conveyed, and Pong and Somkit's relationship was fun and sweet. There were some pacing issues that means this book was not a home run for me, but I enjoyed it overall.
My hold came in, and I'm ready when you are, @BucklingBookshelves ! I'm all prepared with my book darts this time! 😄 #buddyread
Wow. I am so grateful to the Newbery committee for picking this as an Honor book this year, because I would never have picked it up otherwise. This is one of those stories where truth is more incredible than fiction. Everyone needs to know about this rescue! Read this book!
(I finally finished, @BucklingBookshelves !) #buddyread
My hold came in, @BucklingBookshelves ! I'm ready to start whenever you are! 😃
It's always the grumpy ones that hold the most wisdom. I especially love the line about seeing our own reflection in the water/stories. #buddyread
@BucklingBookshelves
I'm only on page 13, and I've already decided I desperately need book darts for this book. Too bad I don't have any! I'll have to remedy that soon. 🙂
@BucklingBookshelves #buddyread
What a powerful book this was, and what an incredible true story! How hard that must have been to always feel that your family could be torn away from you at any moment. What did you think, @BucklingBookshelves ? #buddyread
Here's how my #bookspinbingo card looks! The empty spots are free spaces. The tagged book is my actual #bookspin - which is the one book I know I'll read this month because it's my book club book! 😄
@TheAromaofBooks
Here's my #bookspin list! Basically a bunch of books for my personal challenges that I've been procrastinating on. I'm excited to try the #bookspinbingo. Since I've only been participating for one month, any extra spaces will be books from my June list.
@TheAromaofBooks
Someone in the bookstore was having a bit of fun. 😄
My reward for making it through the week - reading outside while my kids nap. 😊
@page1books hit it out of the park this month! This are my subscription goodies for this month, and I couldn't be more excited! If you haven't tried their individualized subscription boxes yet, I highly recommend them! #mypage1 #page1books
I got this book from a used bookstore, and now I feel sorry for whoever's mom didn't get a chance to read it. Hopefully she can find another copy someday. 😃
#bookspin #doublespin
And now don't mind me while I go read something else entirely off my book spin list first. That's allowed, right? 😄

I'm enjoying getting back into this world. A Winter's Promise was my book from my first #page1books subscription box, and I liked it so much, I immediately ordered the sequel. Such an interesting world!

Finally warm enough for outside reading!
#cleartheshelf Day 8 - 96 pages read

Total - 853/1,692 pages

#cleartheshelf Day 7 - 104 pages read
The margins in this book seem strangely narrow to me and the lines are close together, like they were trying to cram as many words as they could on a page. It would have been fine by me to have more pages so that everything could be easier to read! 🤷♀️
Total - 757/1,692 pages

#cleartheshelf Day 6 - 71 pages read
I finished My Life in Middlemarch this morning, and now I'm on to this one, whose cover I just love looking at!
