I enjoyed this story. It‘s quite gentle and flows along nicely. It‘s well written (apart from the Americanisms - an English doctor wouldn‘t refer to Christmastime as ‘the holidays‘ especially in the 1940s in England), drawing on the strength of the power of books and featuring some lovely characters. Just a delightful and engaging read. 4⭐️

A library book. I‘m going away for a weekend in the Peak District with a group of friends who also love reading at the beginning of November. The original book we‘d arranged to read to discuss at our get together was The Bloomsbury Girls but then found out it‘s the second in a series, so now we‘re reading both books! 🤪. So many books too little time. 🫨

This was a reread and it was just as delightful the second time. It's about a group of people who live in the tiny English village where Austen wrote some of her novels. They form a society to try to preserve her legacy. Each of their stories, from Mimi the Hollywood star to Adeline, the strong young widow, mirrored a portion of an Austen novel or added a new layer to the impact she had on the world. This was a cup of hot cocoa that hit the spot.

This has been on my Kindle, along with what feels like a thousand other books, so why I decided on this as opposed to something else, I don‘t know. I do know that it was a lovely story that draws on the wisdom in Austen‘s books. In many ways a gentle, relationship-driven book. Maybe not for everyone, but it definitely spoke to me.

I got this book bc of my obsession with Jane Austen and all things related to her. This book was better than I thought it would be but my no means will be staying in my Jane Austen section of my bookshelf. It‘s a read and pass on for me. Had Guernsey Potato Pie Society vibes if you like that.

Cute, wrapped in layers of Austen, no loose ends. I was surprised by how much of a role grief played in the story (I could have used a trigger warning, honestly), but in many ways, what was said to Adeline was what I also needed to hear. Even if you don't like Austen, this is a great "Books (and reading) Are Awesome" story. ????

Listening to a story set in a quaint village while stitching a quaint village!

I've never been much of an audiobook person but I just might make a habit of this. Helps that it's narrated by Richard Armitage. 💙🎧

I loved this book! I usually love all things that include Jane Austen, but this storyline was on its own lovely and heartfelt. I felt attached to each of the main characters and didn‘t want it to end. I want to know more about their future lives. I feel the same about all of Jane Austen‘s books.

This was a delightful book, although I did feel the ending was a bit abrupt. It was a perfect complementary read while in the middle of reading through Jane Austen‘s novels. The description of the setting of Chawton was lovely. The best aspect was the variety of characters that came together through one common interest and then supported each other in such wonderful ways.

My hubs bought me a WordCloud Austen book set for Christmas last year and I‘ve been reading my way through them this year (I still have Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey to look forward to!), so reading this sweet story layered with my latest encounters of Jane Austen‘s characters was fun! I wish the ending wasn‘t as rushed but was charmed by so many of these characters and loved seeing some Austen characters reflected in Jenner‘s.

I ended up really enjoying this book, but I did almost give up early on. It was slow to start and felt a bit dis-jointed for the first ~20%, but it then picked up steam for me. It‘s a great imagining of the Society‘s origins.

What a sweet book! It was pretty slow and whimsical. I loved how the author used Austen‘s brilliant classics to bring together an unlikely group of people. Each person carries heavy burdens of grief and trauma, but they all find healing in books. I appreciated the author introducing a twist that made me think I knew the end, only to twist the twist! I found this book to be sweetly reminiscent of Austen‘s own writing. I recommend it!

This book was an absolute delight and just what I needed today. I really liked getting to know all these characters that share a love for my Jane. I would like a little more, please and thank you (especially Adam & Yardley - that epilogue just wasn‘t enough).

I don‘t have a photo of the book because I borrowed from the library and listened to the audio (and am apparently too lazy to just google image the cover). So, Tilney awkwardly snoozing.

melissajayne I find that those are the best sort of books; leave you satisfied enough that you aren‘t wrecked emotionally and can move onto the next book. 4y

Oh, man. Now I want to go on a tour of all of Jane Austen‘s homes. This highly fictionalized account of the Jane Austen Society‘s acquisition was charming and sweet and surprisingly suspenseful! A story as quiet and quaint as the small village in which it is set, where Jane Austen once lived and finished her last three novels. While the book is really about the small group of devoted Austen fans who form the titular society in the years following WWII — their lives, traumas, loves, and victories — it is also full of tiny references to Austen‘s characters and personal history, which will delight any Austen-loving reader. #austenianaugust
