“Man cannot live without nature. He needs air to breathe, water to drink, fruit to eat. But nature is quite able to live without man. Which proves just how superior it is to us”.

Some parts of this book are stories of the horrors of the Holocaust that we‘ve read many times, but the way in which they are woven with the story of the impact of those events on the children and grandchildren of survivors make it unique.

Re-reading this profound book for #LitsyBookClub
I listened to it earlier in the year for #EuropaCollective
This is a book that‘s going to stay with me a long time.
Anne Berest and her sister have a new book, Gabriële, about their great grandmother, coming out next year and I‘m going to put a high on my TBR
This was more historical romance than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it. Nena is the daughter of a Mexican rancher as Anglos from the north threaten their way of life. At the same time, another supernatural danger reappears and a man from her past returns. These were a different kind of vampire, and I wanted a few more answers in the end, but it was a great October read.

After reading Bright Young Women, I‘m glad to have also read this memoir. This is a story of survival and strength from a woman who not only survived an attack by Ted Bundy but two life threatening medical diagnoses as well. Her story starts slowly and is sometimes repetitive, but it also makes important points and speaks for the women attacked and murdered.

I appreciated the way this novel focused on the lives of the victims, rather than the murderer who is never called by name. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to keep track as the story jumped back and forth in time, but I also liked how the two storylines came together in the end. Now, I will have to do some nonfiction reading.

Book 156 of the year.
I read this with the #litsybookclub. It was very interesting and the art stolen was beautiful. I found myself going down a rabbit hole researching the art in this book.
This was an incredibly well told story of two Pakistani American teens and their families. Although the main story is when they‘re high school seniors, we learn a lot of family history for both. I felt many emotions while experiencing the lives of both Salahudin and Noor. They face some very difficult situations but come through with hope in the end.
