Just finished this. Jemisin's work always gives me a book hangover, even though I love them. It's a great book but very intense.

I usually love Balogh's books. I was disappointed in this one's use of the mysterious Asian trope.
Fyi, I dont think it would hold up as an audiobook, because the imagery is defintely important to the story.
I love world building, so I enjoyed diving into the backstory of this series. I know some people were concerned it didn't advance the series plot, but I think it defintely did, and can't wait to see this story intertwine with the main series.
A very powerful book. Listening to the audiobook version in which all the essays are read by their authors. Very heavy topic; so definitely not one to binge listen.
Fascinating true story of Laura Ingalls Wilder's life... be prepared to be both impressed and disillusioned with the real version of a person you grew up thinking of as a friend.
I saw Mia Sosa at an event a few months ago. She was engaging. This book is underwhelming, but I am hyping to find her newer books.
Pros: diverse cast, heroine who believes in herself
Cons: as predictable as you could have expected
If this book does anything for your understanding of US history, it should destroy the concept of a more stable past where people settled and stayed put for generations and where hard work always gave you a chance to succeed.
As someone who grew up loving the Little House books, this look at the reality of Laura Ingalls Wilder's real childhood is fascinating.
Every N.K. Jemisin book that I read both breaks my heart amd leaves me wishing for more. That's not an easy balance to strike.
Liked this, although I hippie there ous another one, because I want more of this story.
Furiously funny... a dark and funny book. I thought it was even better than her first book. Mental illness is a serious topic, but Lawson manages to talk about it in a way that balancers realism and finding the funny side.
Reading this for the first time. It's good, but very intense. Had to take a break.
I can't say I'm enjoying it, but I see the links to many cultural experiences that are still present today
Thought this was pretty good. Fast paced and kept me guessing.
Horrifying to think these events happened in our country only within the last century.
Fascinating history that rarely gets much attention. Even Chernow's thorough biography of Washington only gets into part of this story.
I'm going to miss Amelia. Joan Hess did a good job finishing this book.
Started this book a few years ago, but couldn't get into it. My husband started it again after the Noble Prize was announced. He really liked it and convinced me to read it too. I enjoyed it, but not as much.
Good book for managers.
Fun book. Not quite as smooth as the Jeeves and Wooster books, but fun.
Fun book. Not my favorite in terms of style of romance, but fast-paced and witty.
Love this book. It was a great re-read when I needed something quiet and lovely. Heyer's dialogue is always fresh and witty.
Plus, this is a great take on mistaken identity and everyone comes off looking pretty good.
Side note: not showing the bottom corner because my dog stole it of my nightstand one day...
Enjoyed this book -- third in the blessings series.
Audiobook read by the author. Pretty funny, though a bit on the raunchy side for my taste.
Fun, funny, and historically informative.
Had to pick up this one as soon as I finished the first. I didnt thunk it was quite as good, but still a compelling continuation of the overall narrative.
I always enjoy Ms. Bev's books and learn a lot of history, but I thought this was one of her most compelling that I've read to date. Romantic elements, but not a traditional romance by any means.
Not my favorite style, a bit more physical than I prefer, but great characters and diving realistically into difficult personal issues around mental illness, etc. They could use even more space to develop, but that's always true. Interested to see where the next books in the series go.
Lots of fascinating New York City history in this book, as always, although the storyline in this one is a bit grim.
Just finished this book, the third in the series. It was a fun, fast read, but didn't feel like a fully rounded story. It also had a ridiculous premise.
I hate starting in the middle of a series, but I loved that Sinclair didn't spend any time catching me up. I had to just jump in and try to figure it out.
Also, can't underage the opportunity to read a book by someone with my name.
Excited to read this book! Great talk tonight with a lot of interesting history. I have loved his other books, but I was a little surprised he chose Grant next, so I enjoyed hearing him talk about it. #History
I live this series and have been catching up on the newest titles after a brief hiatus. Have to say that, just like the book characters, I'm also not 100% adjusted to three idea of Sarah as Mrs. Malloy, but I love the way Thompson is exploring the themes of careers for women and women's rights in a way that feels authentic to both the characters and three historical period.
Really enjoyed this twist on the usual gang with Maeve and Gino taking center stage while Frank and Sarah enjoyed their honeymoon.
Decided to give Eloisa James a try because I hear so much about her. Doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for beauty and the beast retellings.
Thought this was the weakest of the three I have just read in this series.
Wouldn't rate this high for historical accuracy, but it was a fun read
Have heard a lot about this book. Thought it was defintely an interesting storyline. Lolo forward to book two
Interesting book. Second in a series, so a bit awkward to read first.
This book was a bit uneven, but it's still a pick because parts made me laugh out loud. I listened to the audiobook, which is read by Fey.
Thought this was a really interesting look at history that is usually masked by the myth Queen Victoria built after her husband's death.
Didn't like this book as much as the first one in the series. The whole premise never really hing together for me, and there were a lot of holes that were never really filled. Since the books in this series are only loosely related, I can't count on the third book to fill them.
It's no Jeeves and Bertie, but I laughed frequently. Good Audiobook read. Suitably nonsense plot.
Enjoyed this book for its in depth exploration of historical settings.
You'll never look at hotels the same way again after reading this book. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Possibly both.
