Went to my local library today and got three books that I have been seeing everywhere. It had been a while since I went there because of my grandmother being sick and everything. I enjoyed it so much!! I am hoping to go more this year.
Saki‘s usual nighttime ritual involves wiggling around on his back in the middle of the living room.
MY usual nighttime ritual involves whatever I‘m reading. Tonight, that‘s THE MOUNTAIN CROWN by Karin Lowachee, in advance of its sequel. HOW am I the only person who‘s ever posted about it on here? It‘s great! And it‘s short! Everyone should read it!
I read this for Bookwyrms Book Club, my newly-minted fantasy book club for kids at the library. It‘s based on “The Reluctant Dragon”, a short story by Kenneth Grahame (which, admittedly, I‘ve never read). It was super sweet — basically “Ferdinand” made mythical, about a cultured & sensitive dragon who would rather read, paint watercolors, play the piano, eat creme brûlée, and put on plays than fight. The kids all loved it! ??
Oh. My. Stars. I can‘t even. This book was stressing me the hell out so much. Yet enjoyed it soooooo much.
The first half of the book was really just hopping along various islands looking for some answers. So much happens there. Then the second half has a different plot going for it. But it flowed decently. Loved how much more open Violet and Xaden are around each other. TAIRN AND ANDARNA MY LOVLEYS!! My hearts 🖤💛 RIDOC 💙
That ending, man.

The book fairy that sits next to me at work let me borrow this. The cover is already warped but I must be nice to it regardless.
All else is put on hold as I have dived in. 🐉💙🙏🏻
There is so much to enjoy in this book. The First Nation perspective, the heroine, the magic system. I wish the plot was a tad more propulsive because of it's target audience. Nevertheless I do think this will be one that the sort of kid who reads Watership Down and Lord of the Rings at 11 will absolutely love. As an adult reader I enjoyed myself, which was a surprise because boarding school books are not my fave, I will read on in the series.
