Start Here: Read Your Way Into 25 Amazing Authors | BookRiot
310 posts | 25 read | 2 reading | 56 to read
Start Here is a field guide. It is not meant to be definitive or exhaustive. We imagine you taking it with you to the bookstore and thumbing through it as you decide if you'd like to try Dickens or Atwood or Melville for the first time. Perhaps you'll pull it up on your e-reader before pouring that Sunday morning coffee and downloading a book. And, after spending a few minutes reading a chapter, we hope you'll feel excited and confident about picking something new.

I‘m this week‘s guest on What Should I Read Next! I had a great time. But because I still went into my nervous fugue state, a couple of corrections:
• Hold Still is a memoir.
• I confused Ben Macintyre with Ben Mezrich.
•The Memory Police is coming from Pantheon. (I also want to mention this was recorded 2 weeks ago; going forward, I will not be supporting JB.)

Thank you for listening, and thank you for joining me here. AND YAY BOOKS! 📚📚📚

Chrissyreadit What is JB? 6y
Hestapleton @Chrissyreadit I‘m assuming she‘s referring to John Boyne and the controversy over his recently-announced, upcoming book. 6y

You know your a bookworm when your boxing all your books and you hit box 22 and your still going 👀😳 and you already have a suitcase and a bag full of books your taking with you 🤣🤣🤣🤣📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

MallenNC When I moved recently dealing with my books was the biggest issue! I kept finding more. I had to donate/trade/give away a lot and I still have a big collection. Good luck. 6y
Amiable We just moved about 2 weeks ago --28 boxes of books. I thought my husband was going to leave without me and the boxes. 😳 6y
ravenlee We moved in September. Overheard one of the brawny young movers say to the other, “How many more boxes of books can there be?!” after about 20. There were at least 40, plus several more we moved ourselves. #itsnothoardingifitsbooks 6y
See All 7 Comments
Ddzmini @MaklenNC @Amiable and @ravenlee now I don‘t feel bad I ended up with 24 and only need one more so 25 total. I still have the suitcase and bag I‘m carrying in the plain but I‘m good with that 😋📚📖 6y
LazyDays I love when people are helping you move. And they hit the book boxes, they always go to lift them quickly then stop and say" * insert cuss word here* what do you have in there, books"? Why yes *Bob* I do, thank you.?? 6y
Amiable @ravenlee Haha... Same! We hired a moving company that sent three strapping young men. I overheard one of them swear and say "holy ^*%# there's another pile of them over here!" #sorrynotsorry 6y
Ddzmini @LazyDays and @Amiable this will be the first time I‘m not moving my stuff myself (because hey California to Hawaii 👀😳) so I won‘t be here when the pick up the boxes but I‘ll have my Nephew record what they say so I can laugh 🤭 🤣🤣🤣📖📚📚 6y

2. Read at least 12 volumes of nonfiction or poetry by Indigenous writers.

3. Reduce La TBR from 355 books to 250 books or less. Preferably way less.

4. Read some frickin chunksters instead of letting them sit on La TBR for years on end.

Are any of these on your #TBR list?

https://linkinprofile.com/bookriot

gradcat Some good ideas on that list...thanks! 6y
julesG I found the most common DNF books list much more interesting. A lot of people share my DNF taste. 😂 https://bookriot.com/2018/08/21/books-never-finished-on-goodreads/. But I have to say, I read a few on this list and liked them. 6y
Libby1 I‘ve read 26 on this list. There‘s only one there that I still want to read, and I‘m glad that I currently have it home from the library! 6y
MaleficentBookDragon @julesG I #DNF 2 off the list, chose not to even bother with 9 of them, enjoyed 2 of them a lot, and have another 2 of them on my #TBR. This was an intetesting list. But The Goldfinch needs to be added to it. I hated that book. 6y

Good people of Litsy, kindly recommend me a book to read. In dire need of recommendations!
#reader #litsy #newpost #recommend #books

callielafleur Sleeping Giants is a fun read, and the start to a good series (though the third book falls off a little). 6y
Sjhaug I just finished Ginny Moon and thought it was great. If you haven‘t read a Rabbit Cake, it is a must read. Good luck! 6y
Burghbookaddict Just finished for a book club. Not something I would have ever picked up in my own but I ended up loving it! 6y
See All 8 Comments
rwmg If you are feeling strong enough, I would choose A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. Otherwise Bel Canto by Ann Patchett or Sleeping Angel by Greg Herren. 6y
Palimpsest I recently finished The Stranger and loved it, but I could see how someone might hate it too. I was reading Existentialism is a humanism, but stopped to read The Stranger as there is a commentary about it in the second section. I recommend The Name of the Rose if you like mystery/ history. 6y
Tertubotn A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It‘s about an aristocrat who gets house arrest at the fanciest hotel in Moscow after the revolution. Beautifully written, and definitely NOT boring. Has a lovely fairy tale feel to it at times. I was sad when it ended. :( 6y
CMB It depends on what you want to read at this moment. If you‘re into something more scholarly, I‘m currently reading Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. If you think you‘re in the mood for a mystery, Louise Penny‘s stories revolve around the fictional village of Three Pines located just north of the US border in Canada, south of Montreal. Start with her first, Still Life. You will like Armand Gamache, Head of Sûreté. He‘s genuine. 6y
CMB Being a history geek, means I read a lot of historical fiction. I‘m almost done with War of the Roses-Stormbird by Conn Iggulden. It‘s about the Lancaster-York feud over the throne of England starting with the reign of Henry VI. It‘s described as the original Game of Thrones and I‘d have to agree with this! 6y
