WOW I loved this weird, weird book. It's been a while since I read a book in one sitting. A favorite of 2019 for sure.

Shouldn't have started this before bed last night. So many nightmares.🤦🏻♀️
TFW you have the perfect prop for a creepy book photo shoot. I am so here for these short stories. @coffeehousepress is my go-to for great reads these days.
The Millions Most Anticipated 2018 list tipped me off to this #mystery novel. The author has written a follow-up that launches next month, so I'm doing the prep work!
-
"Jon McGregor has revolutionized that most hallowed of mystery plots: the one where some foul deed takes place in a tranquil English village that, by the close of the case, doesn‘t feel so tranquil anymore. . . . McGregor‘s writing style is ingenious." ―Maureen Corrigan
Happy day!!! It's here!
“Can we just pop in here real quick and check out the staff picks? I‘m not going to buy anything, I swear.” Oops.
Purchase #2 @powellsbooks last week: “My Favorite Thing Is Monsters” by Emil Ferris. I‘ve been coveting this book for months. If you haven‘t heard the incredible story of how this graphic novel came to be, you are in for a tale.
Purchase #1 from @powellsbooks last week: “I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death” by #maggieofarrell, a memoir structured entirely around the author‘s many near-death experiences.
Hands down one of the best short story collections I've read. Likely to finish this one tonight, which means I'll be requesting the rest of her books from the library around 10 PM. #bookwormproblems
I fully recognize I shouldn't be reading this because I am so freaking afraid of ghosts but #yolo.
Got my green on ☘️ Welcome to St. Patrick's Day, introvert style! (Not pictured: sweatpants, cats, and the zero effs that are given.) 😻
This weekend read is inspired by... RAIN! Here come some grey indoor days with "Sunburn" by Laura Lippman.
I usually read nonfiction a bit more slowly, but I blazed through this book in about four days because it is so 👏🏻good👏🏻. The author was raised by survivalist Mormons in a remote part of Idaho, receiving no formal education as she grew up. The story of her family's struggles with illness, loss, and radicalism, and Tara's incredible motivation to transcend her circumstances, is truly captivating.
@books_inc._alameda on a rainy day. I finally bought a copy of "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls, which I think I'm the last person in the world to read.
Lots of work travel this month means my reading game took a hit. Hunkering down this morning to do some catch-up.
.
.
"A searing coming of age novel set to the music of chance."
Sometimes you wake up on a Saturday and just need to build a little Sylvia Plath shrine. (I love this print by Summer Pierre.)
Happy Friday! Yet again, it's almost time to read books for two days straight. Here's Fiona Apple trying to get in on my major life goals 😸
March is here and it's torrentially raining in San Francisco. Time to make a reading plan because outside is NOT happening. Here's my March TBR pile! #marchbookstagram18
So this just happened.
Early morning breakfast date with "The Perfect Nanny," which I'm loving. On the edge of my seat with about 100 pages left... Get here quick, lunch break. #riotgrams
Day 26 of #riotgrams is for fairy tales, which are not really my jam, so here's my version. If you haven't read "The Bloody Chamber" by Angela Carter, I highly recommend checking out this collection. Gothic, feminist retellings of classic tales? Yes, please.
Panels, pictures, and illustrations for day 25 of #riotgrams! I've been waiting for the right moment to post about the amazing Crap Hound.
.
“Edited and designed by Sean Tejaratchi, Crap Hound is the seminal mixture of social commentary and somewhat overindulgent graphic design."
.
"Each page is filled with high-contrast art, carefully taken from vintage catalogs, advertising, obscure books, and found ephemera."
There are a bunch of big-ass books in this house that need to get read. (Day #24 of #riotgrams is oversized books.)
Day #23 of #riotgrams: Personal Improvement. I wish this book had been required reading in my twenties.
For my bachelorette party, my friends gifted me copies of their favorite books (best friends ever) and this gorgeous read was from the nightstand of my bridesmaid Jess.

Day 22 of #riotgrams is for books that should be adapted. Can we please talk about how "The Child Thief" would be the most bingeworthy, dreamy Netflix series of all time? I am in love with this gothic, modern day Peter Pan retelling and kind of want to live inside it. Check out the stunning artwork of Brom.
Day 20 of #riotgrams: Writing. These two books are frequently near me. Arielle Greenberg and Rachel Zucker have informed so much of my writing life.
I know "Moby Dick" isn't everybody's idea of a great time, but it is for me so I'm leaving this here. #riotgrams day 19 is for favorite school reads, and my relationship to this book changed my life in some (truly) awesome ways. This antique illustrated edition also rules. ??
Day 17 of #riotgrams is all about music. "Threshold Songs" by Peter Gizzi is a book of poetry that I basically want to buy for everyone.
So day 17 of #riotgrams is "Unreturned Books." This gem was loaned to me an absurdly long time ago by my sweet friend and talented actress, Dana. We were performing in "The Women" together and talked bookish things everyday backstage. Dana, I'm so sorry I still have this! Rorycat is guarding it for you ?
I failed to take a #riotgrams pic before work today, so I'm finally getting to share one of my favorite quotes from Denis Johnson's stunning collection, "The Largesse of the Sea Maiden." Finished this week and already missing it.
Just in time for day 15 of #riotgrams, these #hotbooks from my library holds arrived this week. Truly hot off the presses, these are my dates for the weekend. Bye.
Denis Johnson and I are off to work on Valentine's Day (aka day 14 of #riotgrams with @bookriot which is "hearts"). I've been stretching this book out for as long as I can. ?
Red, white, and pink for day 13 of #riotgrams! (And there's a bonus heart, since it's almost Valentine's Day.)
.
I have been wanting to re-read "A Wrinkle in Time" which was my favorite book in fifth grade (and pretty much forever). "Braiding Sweetgrass" was a happy impulse buy @powellsbooks that has yet to be started. And I'm halfway through "I hate the internet" so I need to finish this week.
Day 12 of #riotgrams with @bookriot - Favorite Leading Ladies. Esther Greenwood of “The Bell Jar” has long been one of my favorite (although unconventional) heroines.
Day 11 of #riotgrams with @bookriot - Punctuation! This beautiful book of poetry is “Apostrophe” by Elizabeth Robinson. I‘ve been excited to get to today‘s prompt in order to feature a poet and a poetry press (Apogee) that I‘m grateful to have worked closely with.
Today's #riotgrams challenge is "Book and a Beverage." I picked this book up at Powell's in June and am excited to dig in today!
Nancy Drew is my ♥️🔍🕵️🏻♀️
I have a degree in poetry so I was super stoked for today's #riotgrams challenge: spine poetry. Rory also got in on the action 😂 @bookriot
Still one of my all-time favorites. I feel like Im recommending this to friends on the daily.
When my husband and I first met, we would read each other one of these stories each night. After four years, we're restarting the book and it's just as awesome as I remembered. :)
Katherine Heiny's oneliners are cracking me up 😂
Loved this weird little adventure on my foggy day off work.
Spent time in Mexico with this book. Can't stop reading. SO GOOD.
Finally made a collage of fave 2017 reads! "Her Body and Other Parties" ruled my world.
I finally started a book-specific Instagram account and my family was very supportive 😂 you can find me on Instagram now as librarypoweruser 📚
Going back to work today was less than awesome but coming home to a Powell's gift card, a good drink, and an awesome book made it better.
Santa was very good to me this year.
