I can't stop thinking about the peak-end rule mentioned in this book (e.g., we judge experiences like reading a book based on the most intense/peak experience and the ending, and not based on the overall experience of the book). So many books have become "picks" ?for me despite being mostly a slog by delivering with a WOW ending or an insane plot twist. Movies are the same. Do you find this with your reading? Not sure this was the best vacation read, but my "remembering self" is thankful for making the educational journey. Time to regress to the mean with easier reading and a brewski.

This was my first Mary Roach book, and it certainly won't be my last. She digs in with the lens of a skeptic looking for proof of the afterlife, and delivers with a humorous, objective and insightful journey searching for answers. Rating: 4 ghosts 👻👻👻👻

Fist bumps to David McCullough for this thrilling account of how we first took flight. Orville and Wilbur succeeded where bigger budgets and more resources failed by studying birds, leveraging their skills as mechanics and through countless hours of research and good ol' fashioned trial and error. A trip to the Smithsonian to see the Flyer firsthand is now on my bucket list! Inspiring.

Happiness equation revised: want nothing + do anything + carry around a Litsy spoiler wallet (thanks to @todd ❗️). This book opened my eyes to easy things I can do to be happy every day.

I loved comics as a kid. Seeing graphic novels on Litsy has motivated me to pair Transformers (thanks, @Chris_Ryall) with a comic-fueled adventure in Kavalier and Clay for my next reads.

A timely read.

Three interwoven tales of dealing with loss and faith: a quest, ghost story and journey with a chimpanzee named Odo, who like Richard Parker in Life of Pi, steals the show. First two stories are okay, but the third is special. The ending still stirs.

Austin literary tour: Harry Ransom Center (Joyce, Shakespeare first editions and David Foster Wallace manuscripts), O. Henry museum (with a book haul of one of his originally unpublished works) and Book People because you can never have enough books.

Pessl is a writing powerhouse. LOVED this book, a clever construct for a coming of age meets murder mystery packaged in a syllabus of classic book chapters and a "final exam" that makes you want to turn back to page one to fill in the details.?
