Anyone been meaning to read this? It's one of Audio Sync's free downloads this week! It's an excellent, not too gritty, story of living in a Lithuanian concentration camp during WWII.

All. The. Feels. So Good.

Cinfhen What did you think of the ending? (edited) 7y
BookMusings @Cinfhen not amazing. But I think it's like what the story talked about, a kind of happy middle. The acknowledgement that there are many more trials to come, but that in this moment, things are in a good place. Poppy and Aggie's make-up rings true to me, kids that age can have 180s so quickly, all any of them want is to be accepted. 7y
Cinfhen I loved the first 2/3 but once they went to Thailand I started to lose a bit of interest. I guess that's true about teens/tweens because the dance scene felt too wrapped up for me. I'm still really happy I read this story. I LOVED the grandma 7y
BookMusings @Cinfhen last 1/3 was definitely the weakest. The dance scene felt like the kid had been lectured by some authority figure or something. Poppy was supposedly the most popular girl before Thailand but it did feel a bit off. So glad I read it too. 7y

Have you heard about this book?? OMG so fascinating! It's kind of a true crime memoir about a guy who learns that when he was a baby he was kidnapped, then two years later found abandoned and is reunited to his family.

bookishkai I've got it on my TBR. I read about it in a newsletter from my local indie. It looks great. 8y

I saw this title on the NYTimes 100 notable books list, and I love memoirs so I decided to check it out. It is a super interesting read on a subject that I don't have knowledge about. Definitely makes me want to seek out more about the area, culture, conflict etc. from both soles of the war of course!

#readharder

Cinfhen I read it, interesting! I like the author's writing style. He wrote a different book, not about war but about a mystery/scandal involving the theft of ancient Biblical scrolls. Super fascinating 8y

I saw this sign in a bathroom stall I made use of today.... am I wrong in thinking it unnecessary?? 😂😂😂

I might clarify that I think the weirdest thing about it is not that somebody would squat to pee, but rather that somebody made this sign to say squatting is a big ❌.

Michelle_mck If there are people/tourists from Asian countries the practice is different to ours - we have those posted all over Sydney 8y
BookMusings @Michelle_mck oh there are lots of Asian tourists and residents here in Vancouver, but wouldn't you squat over bowls or holes while keeping feet on the floor, not stand on toilet seats? I could also see squatting on your home toilet with bare feet or slippers or something... but it seems odd to think you should stand on a toilet seat. Just my first time seeing this kind of sign I guess. (edited) 8y
Michelle_mck You would think so but some people done do that, there is nothing worse than going to the 🚽 after that's happened 🤢 8y
See All 10 Comments
pppooraikul That's one of the general problems here in my country and that sign is posted inside almost all toilets. Problem is toilet seats are not made to bear the whole body weight of a grownup and there were accidents (i.e. the seat broke suddenly and the butt bled, oops) time and again. Yet some people still never learn. 🙄😂 (edited) 8y
monkeygirlsmama @BookMusings That's what you'd expect, but such is not the case. LoL I'm currently living in China, and the number of times I've seen the aftermath of this type of toilet use suggests it is very much not uncommon. 😆🤢💩 8y
Lizpixie They even had these signs in the bathrooms at the sheep station my nephews wedding was at a few months ago, so apparently it happens everywhere😬 8y
EloisaJames Interesting! 8y
Scurvygirl Working on construction sites, I have seen some portajohns that could have used this sign. 😝 8y

AUDIOBOOK RECOMMENDATION

This narrator is seriously awesome. I don't know if he consulted with the author to achieve the tone of each of the characters, but man I am thoroughly entertained. Rivals my favourite audio narration- Where'd You Go Bernadette?

Also, tell me your fave audiobook narrations! I want to listen to them.
