The Green Archer | Edgar Wallace

I always like it when local mysteries, superstition or folklore is to commit a murder. Then you get to know interestig facts about the local history and the imspector has to disprove all the theories. That‘s why I liked the story of The Green Archer.

Back to reading a murder mystery - now the third Edgar Wallace. Fortunately, some of the old German movies on replay on TV right now. So I can scrutinize both. 😂

This is a clever and fun crime novel. Inés discovers her husband has an affair and wants to save her marriage at any cost. And the costs are high! Many twists and a bit of irony make this a great fast paced read by Claudia Piñeiro, who has become a favorite author.
I just don‘t know what to think of the other storyline, the one about her daughter.

Thanks for putting this on my radar Sue ?

Amor4Libros I loved this one! 3mo
BarbaraBB @Amor4Libros So good! 3mo
Suet624 Hahaha. Did you intend to put that question mark there? You know what? I had completely forgotten about the daughter's storyline. I guess you're right - it wasn't all that important. 3mo

BarbaraBB @Suet624 Which question mark? About the daughter, Piñeiro must have had a reason to add it yet I can‘t seem to figure out why. 3mo
Suet624 Oh, when I look on my iPhone instead of my computer it shows a heart. I guess my computer can‘t read emojis. Never mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Another thing that didn‘t do much: when Alicia‘s body is found the autopsy shows she was pregnant. Nothing is done with that information, I am not even sure that Ines and Ernesto hear about it! 3mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 That‘s weird! But it‘s a heart indeed 😃 3mo
Suet624 I‘m certain it‘s not a great crime novel but I really liked how it made me laugh and how quickly she told the story. 3mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Yes! It doesn‘t matter at all, it‘s still a great read!! 3mo

#WeeklyForecast 37/24

I am reading Verona for #EuropaCollective but have a hard time finishing it, so boring and childish.
Next will be the tagged, I am excited to have learned that Piñeiro has an extensive backlist - thanks to @Suet624
The Laughter was a gift from Cindy and I have heard good things about it!

LeeRHarry I often think about Cindy when I‘m on Litsy. 💕 3mo

The India-rubber Men | Edgar Wallace

Mehso-so

The English title is somehow misleading, there are no Indian men in this book - at least in the German translation. The German title matches the content way better. It is a murder mystery combined with some robberies. But it was somewhat chaotic. It still portrays the foogy London atmosphere well.

Dilara I know the answer to this conundrum! India rubber is another name for latex! Does that make sense in the book's context? 3mo
MariaW @Dilara Makes sense now. 🤣 The problem of not being a mothertongue speaker. The villains are wearing gloves, but this is still a minor detail. I wonder why it was chosen for the title. 🧐 (edited) 3mo

The author of Elena Knows has written another captivating story. Written prior to Elena, Pineiro tells the story of Ines who believes her husband is having an affair. This story takes many twists as she witnesses a death, tries to rekindle the relationship, is betrayed again, & seeks revenge. There is humor that weaves in and out which adds to the story. It‘s a quick read and holds your attention.

Still one of my favorite series. Inspector Dupin does not disappoint and the French Brittany who is the other protagonist of the series together with the food is still on my bucket list to visit because of this series

I really love the German Edgar Wallace black and white movies of the 60/70ies, I always wanted to read the murder mysteries as well. The first one „The Ringer“ was completely different to the murder mysteries I know from Agatha Christie for example. In the beginning it seemed a bit chaotic, but made sense in the end. The mood is definitely darker.

Confrontation of the English original with the German translation. I have to say the German version nailed it.
