COME ON, PACKERS.
Book 5 of @24in48 🤓.
Dear Packers, I took a break from reading for you. WTF. 🧀

❝ That‘s what twenty-first-century feminism is about: the idea that when everybody is equal, we are all more free. ❞
- Barack Obama, Glamour Magazine
12 reading hours into @24in48 and I had to reread this because we should all be feminists.

Oh Ms. Morrison. Stopping here to sleep but what a gut punch of a book.

Starting @24in48 by finishing Human Acts about the 1980 Gwangju Uprising. It's about what happens when soldiers fire upon and kill their own citizens. Seems an apt read for this day.

Happy Halloween! 🎃
Burrently reading. ? I love Insecure sooooo much. I remember seeing this book when it first came out but immediately dismissed it after seeing Issa Rae described as "YouTube sensation." I STAND CORRECTED. I'm still not into BookTube or YouTube shows but I am all about Issa and Molly.
Also after two long years I finally have a new phone with a ton of memory so I won't have to delete Litsy every time I want to take a pic anymore! ?
Some 3am @DeweysReadathon spine poetry:
I am Malala
a torch against the night
brown girl dreaming
harmless like you.

I'm supposed to be packing for a trip but I have the new Marchetta so. Melina 1. Everything else 0.
❝ All's fair in love and Korean dramas. ❞
20+ YEARS OF WATCHING KDRAMAS WITH MY MOM HAVE COME DOWN TO THIS MOMENT. 😭
So excited to be starting this debut novel by Rowan Hisayo Buchanan. The cover caught my eye but the description was even more intriguing. Yay for diverse authors and characters!
One of the many reasons why The Ripped Bodice is my favorite bookstore. 💕 Went today to hear Sarah Kuhn & co and pick up a copy of Fresh Romance.
This was such a hyped book and... that's it? Self help platitudes? And not particularly original ones at that? Don't get me wrong, self love, self worth and body positivity are important things to read about, but for a lauded work of poetry, this felt like something Iyanla would write. Or rather, has written. There were two passages that I adored but the rest seemed to be written for your basic Quote of the Day calendar. Very disappointed.
Shea Serrano is one of the funniest people on Twitter. His tweets on basketball and parenting always have me rolling so of course I had to get his book, The Rap Year Book. It doesn't matter if you're not into rap. If you're into humor, try this book. The art by Arturo Torres is fantastic too. (See above) #Recommendsday
Miyazaki meets Alice in Wonderland in Spain. With art! 💃🏻 A surrealist adventure, this book is as vivid and original and wondrous as a dream.
#CurrentlyReading -- Leanne Hall is one of my favorite YA authors so I'm excited to read her first middle grade book. I mean, look at that cover. I had to take it to The Broad with me to photograph.

President Obama, I love you so. I keep thinking of this quote while reading (and loving) the second Julia Grey book because Julia's eccentric and progressive-for-his-Regency-England-time father is another example of this. He nurtures her mind and raises her expectations -- for herself and others. So glad I finally started this series. Thanks for the rec, @nessochist!
When your friend goes to France for his honeymoon and texts you four magic words: "Do you want anything?" Mais OUI.
I have the boxset of the first 80 Little Black Classics but Penguin keeps releasing more and I can't resist! They're short reads and a great introduction to authors I've never read before or novellas from authors I have read.
I was so excited to find this on sale after seeing @kdwinchester 's post. I've never read this book bc "Waverly don't take bad crab" has followed me around my entire life. I was the Waverly, my cousin was the June. I hated the comparison when I was younger but now I'm like, Who the fuck wants bad crab?? I think it's finally time to give this book a shot.
One of the most compulsively readable horror stories. This is a book that everyone is going to be talking about and if not, they should be. This was such a tremendous piece of writing. The worst things that can and were inflicted on black people were written in a matter of fact, almost mundane way because rape, murder, torture WERE routine, systematic and legal. The casualness of the observer is the true horror. This is a must read.
What an unexpected surprise. This book filled the Veronica Mars sized hole in my heart! I never realized how much Lois Lane and Veronica had in common but I was very pleasantly surprised. I let this book sit on my shelf for a year. That's not going to happen with the just released sequel. I can't wait to get it. 🏃🏻💨
When Sarah Jessica Parker recs one of your favorite books of the year and calls it "fecking brilliant." ? It comes out next week in the US. #Recommendsday
OPRAH DA GAWD. I'm trying to finish my current book(s) as fast as I can so I can read this.
❝ Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. ❞ 🔥
From the opening scene to the last, I loved this book. This Regency mystery is smart and fast paced with colorful characters. I loved that Lady Julia Grey's progressive father is upset that she isn't getting into enough shenanigans. There was just a bit of romance but it was more than enough.
I listened to the audiobook and I'm SO BUMMED this gorgeous paperback is unavailable.
I was OBSESSED with Lois & Clark as a kid so I had to get this book when it came out. And then it lingered on my shelf for a year. I just saw that there was a sequel so I'm finally reading this.
So happy to get my first Book of the Month Club book! And I already finalized my selection for the August box. 📦😊

Imagine if the Bridesmaids were teens and on a school trip to Washington DC. Hilarity ensues. Also revenge diarrhea, sneaking out and gay bars. This was a fun, fast read and I laughed out loud more than once. It's teen girls being allowed to act with the same freedom as teen boys. Shocking, I know. The humor isn't for everyone but if you thought Bridesmaids and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl were funny, grab a Popsicle and get this book.
"Okay, it's happening. Everybody stay calm. Stay f*cking calm!"
This scene from Lobsters (titled A Totally Awkward Love Story in the US) made me lol. Happy Cursed Child weekend, Potheads! ⚡️ #HarryPotter
It's hard out there for a superhero. An Asian superhero tho? In addition to fighting demons, they have to fight parents' expectations. I loved this. It wasn't perfect and the voice seemed a little young at times, but it was so necessary. Two Asian women running around trying to save San Francisco? Yes please! It's set up for a sequel and I really hope there is one. There's so much potential here in the story and writing. ★★★★
#Recommendsday Meet Zenobia Fox. She's the ghost writer for her brother's adventure stories who decides to go off on her own adventure, a spinster adventure, damn it. And it's then that she meets Ariq, the Kraken King. Asian. Male. Hero. They do exist. Meljean Brook wrote one of the hottest male characters ever. I loved this steampunk romance adventure story and can't recommend it highly enough. I want a shelf of just Kraken Kings.
Reason #9827 why diverse books and movies are SO important. #WeNeedDiverseBooks
As Prince Harry once said to Michelle Obama, BOOM. 🎤 Thanks to @24in48 and @Litsy for making my first readathon so much fun. #24in48 #Readathon
But first, #24in48!
Homestretch! This book is ... not good. I don't want to bail on such a short book but it may come to that. Sigh, suckered by a cover again! #Readathon
Favorite series - Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier. Heartbreaking and beautiful. #24in48 #Readathon
Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go, I wanna be sedated! ⏱ I've clocked over 16 hours in #24in48 #readathon (largely due to audiobooking Before the Fall). This is book 4! 🎉 Thanks to my favorite baristas for the extra quad espresso on the house last night. ☕️
When I first started reading this, I was like, WTF was this written by a grownup Eloise in Paris? And then as I kept reading, I ended up thinking, Aw, this sounds like a grownup Eloise in Paris!
This was a charming but very dated read. Olivia de Havilland was like a 1950s David Sedaris. Instead of Me Talk Pretty One Day, it's She Talk Pretty ... To Christian Dior.
A book with a title that could be the title of a book about your life: Girl Most Likely. Rachel Hill was the girl voted Most Likely to Succeed when she was 17, but ten years later, she finds herself back at her parents' home at a crossroads in her life. I loved this book so much and totally related to not living up to others' expectations and deciding to make your own. #24in48 #Readathon
My favorite dysfunctional family novel -- Marchetta families are the best. They break your heart again and again but the love is so real and true.
❝ My body is etched with the names of the three women who own me. My queen. My mother. My woman. ❞

⏳ First @24in48 readathon book! ⏳ And yay, @Litsy is working again! 🎉 #24in48 #readathon
I think my longest relationship is with this series. NINE BOOKS! And Ninth Grave still felt fresh. After the [redacted] incidents at the end of Book 8, the series got a little reboot with this book. It was just a fun, enjoyable read. Charley Davidson is basically a paranormal Lorelai Gilmore and Cookie is, well, Sookie. These books fill the Stars Hollow sized hole in my heart.
