I loved this! It was a slow beginning but couldn‘t put it down once I made it to page 100.
Thx @Soubhiville for giving us the gift of Maya Angelou as our Feb #AuthorAMonth! I started with this memoir to learn more about Maya‘s writing life, her experience in the Harlem Writers Guild & her tireless work in the Civil Rights Movement. I wanted more...so I moved on to her early poetry, this children‘s book as well as interviews with Oprah. In each one, I felt like she was speaking from her soul to mine. What a fiercely inspiring woman!🙌🏻
Angelou‘s personal accomplishments are rivaled only by her horrible luck in choosing men. I kept wanting to say “No, stay away from him!” Her ability to make you feel like you‘re living her life alongside her is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed this. #authoramonth @Soubhiville
Maya Angelou is one of the most interesting human beings to have lived. I read a review that said reading one of her autobiographies makes a person wonder what the hell they've been doing with their lives. I feel that. I read the first 2 autobiographies years ago and taught them for years but had never continued the series. This took me right back to her voice and her larger-than-life wisdom. She is a true treasure. #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville
Really enjoyed this book. She writes so beautifully and her story is triumphant. It definitely wasn‘t a quick read, even though I love reading her story about this specific part in her life i definitely found it sometimes hard to want to read it. But I definitely think it is a must read!
Finished this book this morning everyone was raving about it so I listened to it on audio. It started great I loved her singing the old songs but that was it the rest of it was just meh......

This audio starts with her singing and bitching with Billy Holiday about raw chicken, I'm hooked.

I just started listening to this and it truly feels like I‘m back with an old friend. This woman has had the most profound impact on me.
“Every try will not succeed. But if you‘re going to live, live at all, your business is trying. And if you fail once, so what? Old folks say, every shuteye ain‘t sleep and every goodbye ain‘t gone. You fail, you get up and try again.”
2019 was a fantastic reading year! 9 5-🌟!
Maya Angelou's 7 part autobiographies are a must read. They are the cherries on my reading lists and I only allow myself one a year. Highly recommend them.
Michelle Obama's autobiography is outstanding!
I was spoiled with all the good books last year.
“Open your eyes to the beauty around you, open your mind to the wonders of life, open your heart to those who love you, and always be true to yourself.”
Fourth book of Angelou‘s autobiography where she tells the story of her life. She delves right into the heart of “woman” from romantic love, maternal love, heartbreak, domestic violence, racial discrimination to gender discrimination.

I love writers who have musical writing styles.

"If he was headstrong, I had made him so. If, in his adolescent opinion, he was the best representative of the human race, it was my doing and I had no apology to make."
"Sometimes it's wiser to be right in silence, you know?"
"Speak up. Tell the truth, no matter what the situation."
