I‘ve been revisiting the old Doctor Who Target novelisations for a two-part video on my YouTube channel, in which I present my Top 10 list of favourite Target covers - ranked! Doctor Who And The Ice Warriors MIGHT just be in there. (Spoiler: it‘s totally in there.) Such a great story with an iconic cover. Here‘s the link to my channel: http://www.YouTube.com/jarnopp

LiteratiCafe I‘ve read a few of the newer Doctor books but not any of this era. You have inspired me. 6y

Having a great deal of fun with this, the latest novel from Paul Tremblay, the author of A Head Full Of Ghosts! Excited that Paul and I will be interviewed together at a London bookshop event later this month: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dark-societies-in-conversation-with-paul-tremblay...

As readers of my novel The Last Days Of Jack Sparks may be able to tell at times, Chuck‘s one of my favourite authors. So it‘s a real treat to get a new novella from him, and an integrated colouring book to boot! The story is a whole bunch of splendidly violent fun, with the usual mega-splurge of unflinching insight into the human condition. It‘s also made all the more weirdly emotive by Chuck‘s highly touching introduction. Did you love it too?

QuoteQueen 😱😱😱😱😱 must read. I love Chuck! He's one of my favorite authors! 7y
Schlinkles I met him last night at a booksellers conference. He was really super nice and was wearing the most fabulous blue velvet shoes! 7y

Had to share this great news with my fellow Litsy users: the legendary Hollywood director Ron Howard has optioned the rights to adapt my supernatural thriller novel The Last Days Of Jack Sparks! This is a stunning development. I'm writing the screenplay as we speak and am having a blast. Had a lot of fun with this short story from the author of Gone Girl. Smart, surprising and pretty creepy with it. Shades of Chuck Palahniuk in the writing, I thought, which is always fine by me.

JCozgrove You've intrigued me. I loved GG and Sharp Objects!! 8y
JasonArnopp I haven't read that one - must get to it. 8y

This novel of mine is published in hardcover in the US and Canada today, via Orbit Books! It's about an arrogant celebrity journalist who sets out to write a non-fiction book debunking the supernatural, only to end up dead. He MAY find himself in trouble after mocking the exorcism of a teenage girl, that's all I'm saying. Barnes & Noble and Amazon US have picked it among their genre books of September, which is really awesome.

Given that House Of Leaves is one of my desert island books (partly, I'll admit, because there's so much of it, but also because it's a work of deranged genius) and an undoubted influence on my own novel The Last Days Of Jack Sparks, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to buy The Familiar Vol 1. Maybe it was the rather intimidating fact that this series will span a projected twenty-seven volumes. Twenty. Seven.

scripturient 27 volumes??? 😱😳 8y
OSChamberlain Excellent, brother! House of Leaves would be one of my desert island books too! And I have all 3 volumes of the familiar but have yet to begin reading them. I gotta check out your book! 8y
GinaAnderson I have the first two but haven't cracked them open yet. This pesky job is constantly getting in the way of my reading. 8y

JasonArnopp @OSChamberlain Cool! And please do - would love to hear what a House Of Leaves fan makes of Jack Sparks... 8y
JasonArnopp @GinaAnderson I'm a terribly slow reader, that's my problem. This volume alone could take me a month! Ha. 8y
JasonArnopp @scripturient Absolutely mad, isn't it. 8y
OSChamberlain Will do! But don't be fooled by the size of this book!! The print is huge. Lol 8y
JasonArnopp @OSChamberlain Ahhh, that is reassuring. 👌 8y
Ange44 They're fun! I'm just starting Volume 3. 8y

A great cat 'n' mouse thriller from the horror legend, focusing on a retired cop who unofficially launches back into action after receiving a taunting letter from a killer he failed to catch. The climax was so tense I've now basically become a statue. I look forward to reading the two sequels...

Munshun You will love the second one. I have not started the third one yet. 8y

What a splendid piece of work this is. Chuck delivers his own personal vision of Hell via a dead 13-year-old girl, which you just know is going to be fun. Disturbing, clever, funny, all that good stuff.

JasonArnopp Looking forward to reading the sequel, Doomed, too. 8y

dixi_e Would this be a good book for teens (not sure how facetiously stated YA is in descriptor)? Sounds like it has great potential to be recommend for my school library to order. 9y
JasonArnopp Hi dixi_e! Hmm, hard to say - Chuck rarely seems to remain within any given boundary and I haven't finished reading. :) Guess it depends which end of the teen age bracket we're talking! 9y

Finally grabbing a chance to read this from M.R.Carey, the author of The Girl With All The Gifts and a man who I'm proud to call a stablemate at Orbit Books. Hopefully that doesn't make us sound like a pantomime horse.

This great dystopian horror-fantasy presents a widescreen vision while documenting a small community. Hill's imagination and characters remain vivid, but perhaps what impresses me most now is the wonderful clarity of his prose. There are great turns of phrase but the writing is so direct and honed.

One of the many things I love about books is how each exists as an ever-growing array of unique variants inside its readers' brains. We all see the same movie, but everyone walks away from each book with different and utterly personalised visuals.

Shamefully, this was my first David Mitchell read. Had a great time. Was really surprised by how disturbing this compact and intriguingly episodic story turned out to be. I highly recommend it to folk like me who actively want to be creeped out.

BookNotes Okay. After reading another recommendation, I've placed a hold at my library. I'm looking forward to reading this. 👍 9y

Tremblay backs up 2015's coolest book title with one scary ride. The central sisters' relationship is handled beautifully, as are the framing devices, but what really stayed with me were some of the most insidiously creepy ideas I‘ve read in a novel.
