I started reading this book expecting it be just another diet fad book but it surprised me. It was chock full of easy to follow lifestyle tips. Not just about food and eating - about exercise, relationships, mindfulness, etc. I ended enjoying the book way more than I expected.

No book is holding my attention since I'm on a vacation visiting family.. so I've decided to pick up this collection of essays. I'm not a huge fan of chetan bhagat's fiction. But I'm not discarding his non fiction without a read..

I know why I put this off for such a long time. Such a great book but so emotionally draining. I cried so much when reading it. I don't think I can watch the movie.

Notafraidofwords The movie is a punch to the stomach. Till this day, I remember it. 8y

I have read too many dysfunctional family tales and I didn't think another one would hold any attention. Patchett made me change my mind. Beverly Keating and Albert Cousins kiss one Sunday - a kiss that would initiate an extramarital affair for both and e end up in two broken families, or rather, one big disjoint family with a few stragglers. Neither could have predicted the impact of that kiss. Great book! Hope Davis is an excellent narrator!

Megabooks Such a good book and audiobook! 8y

Read this book as an ARC before it was published in 2009. It was my first glimpse in to the world of child trafficking and prostitution. I was shocked and appalled at the lives of these kids and the conditions they were forced to live in. Such a tragic world, and such a heartbreaking book. It filled me with rage and helplessness.

This post was for today's #nrbchallenge prompt - A book that made you angry. Seinfeld reference - "Serenity Now!"

I am doing a bookish photo challenge in Instagram. This one is fun coz it has Seinfeld prompts. I'm a huge Seinfeld fan so it's been fun pairing books with my fav Seinfeld quotes. Today's #nrbchallenge prompt was "A book that was difficult". Seinfeld reference - " No soup for you"! This book was my first difficult read. Bailed many times but finally succeeded and I fell in love. I own and have read every single Rushdie. Fav author now.

A quick one-evening read. A middle grade fiction about coping with the loss of an immediate family member (sometimes, the only one). Lemonade loses her mom to cancer and is forced to move in with a grandfather she never existed. Worse, she's made to move from San Francisco to a small town only famous for its one Bigfoot sighting. This is a cute little story about how the town comes together to help her get over her loss.

This came in the mail today. Middle grade fiction with a cover like that - I definitely expected it to be a light quick read. I'm halfway through the book and I've already cried twice! It's about losing someone you really care about very early in life. And how to deal with it..

BestOfFates That is a very misleading cover re: tone! 8y
ramyasbookshelf @BestOfFates well, there's a side element to the whole grieving thing about moving on with life. The kid finds a friend who is a Bigfoot detective and their hunts and expeditions are fun almost therapeutic for her.. the cover suits that part of the story. 8y

Today's #audiocoloring activity. I can't stop listening to commonwealth. Each section/chapter is from a different time period - a hop in to the future. So they all read like individual short stories - complete by themselves. And yet, they are all incomplete coz there's a whole - a bigger plot. I'm loving discovering the different layers.

[DELETED] 206653737 I have yet to do any audiocoloring but I sure think it sounds wonderful! Need to get to that! 8y

I saw the movie based on this book today. It was about child trafficking and the prostitution business in India. Obviously a very heavy topic but the movie was taken well. I'm curious to know if anyone has read the book this movie is based on. Even if you haven't, I'd encourage you to watch this award winning movie.

Nebklvr It was a tough read! 8y

ramyasbookshelf @BookishFeminist hey night owl! Should have known you'd be awake this late too :) was it really a young adult novel? The themes are so difficult! I highly recommend the movie. Try to watch it :) 8y
ramyasbookshelf @Peddler410 I'm surprised it is a middle school read. I don't know how I would have reacted to such difficult topics then! 8y

ramyasbookshelf @Cinfhen very heart breaking. The plight of the girl in the prostitution house was depressing. 8y
BookishFeminist @ramyasbookshelf 😂😂 yep & back at you! I am on my way to bed though. I felt it was a middle grade/YA book and while difficult topic wise, I don't remember it being explicit. I'm not the best judge for this but also know a few middle school teachers that keep it in their classrooms. Definitely going to watch the movie! 8y

I'm re-reading this book after 14 years. I just finished chapter 1 and I love it more (if even possible) than I did the first time around. What I did forget however was this tiny reference to my high school - Nazareth Convent - a tiny catholic boarding school nestled in the hills of southern India. Seeing the name flooded me with nostalgic memories from my childhood.

Cinfhen That's incredible! Love the photo you included! This book is currently on my nightstand! 8y
Reggie In my 20's I went through an India phase, Vikram Seth, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, Deepa Mehta's Fire is one of my favorite movies, the Bollywood movie Lagaan.
