Cuilin I wouldn‘t mind a tour of the UN 🇺🇳 1w

tpixie @Cuilin Yes! The UN would be fascinating 🧐 1w
Bookwormjillk I also wouldn‘t mind a tour. Or a sandwich actually. 1w
mcctrish I am curious about the baby. And I‘d love for someone to make me a sandwich 1w
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish the first time she mentioned the baby, my mind went into so many dark places 🤣 pretty sure I jumped to major conclusions though 1w
mcctrish Oh me too. I thought she‘d had a baby and he blew her off or he‘s impregnated someone or fainted at the sight of blood or vaginas 1w
willaful We are getting to the *one* thing I remember from this book when I read it at 12ish. At the time, I thought I was scarred for life!

Honestly, at this point I've prepared to believe Buddy didn't do a blessed thing wrong, because Esther is such a Diva, but we shall see.
1w
Bookwormjillk @willaful Buddy delivered a bay with one hand and made her a sandwich with the other and he is THE WORST. His name isn't even interesting. 1w
Clare-Dragonfly I initially thought he had impregnated and abandoned another woman. But now I think the baby thing is probably a med school thing and it‘s totally banal. I am very much prepared to believe Buddy didn‘t do a blessed thing wrong @willaful 😂 1w
Clare-Dragonfly I also thought all this “everyone thinks Buddy and I are getting married” was because they grew up together and their parents are friends, and that Esther didn‘t find him appealing at all, but she had a huge crush on him! Plath is certainly twisting my expectations. 1w
CogsOfEncouragement What killed me was the casual: Of course, our mothers were good friends. They had gone to school together and then both married their professors… 1w
BarkingMadRead @CogsOfEncouragement right?!? That‘s so normal?! 1w
Andrea313 @CogsOfEncouragement YES! Never ceases to make me do a double take! 1w
ElizaMarie Also tipping culture is so difficult to understand! I get this! But yeah, poor Buddy with his boring name! 7d

DebinHawaii I‘ve kept up with the reading but not so much on the posts so I don‘t know if it‘s been said already but #allofthesecharactersannoythehelloutofme and #idontwanttoholidayinitalywithanyofthesepeople That is all! 😂 5mo
Ruthiella I wonder really who‘s companionship Sydney desires more? I think probably Mrs. Kerr, if she‘s honest. I also can‘t see her as a pastor‘s wife. 5mo

BarkingMadRead @DebinHawaii 🤣🤣🤣 5mo
mcctrish I honestly need to read this book just before you post because if I spread out my reading to far from our chatting all I remember is being confused! Kerr speaks in switchback, she says one thing, Milton in this case responds, she replies in opposite half the time and then goes off on a tangent. This is no holiday @DebinHawaii it‘s Hell! 5mo
IndoorDame I felt like this conversation went way over my head. All I got was that it was all in snarky coded language about who knew Sydney best. 5mo
willaful This chapter infuriated me. Milton starts out knowing quite well that Kerr is *injurious.* Yet she is so good at manipulation, she still manages to fill him with doubt. I\'m not sure they should actually get married, but I think the relationship with someone who actually cares about her could be valuable to Sydney, unless Kerr has managed to ruin it.

Ronald continues to toss off supposedly witty epigrams as if on his deathbed.

willaful @IndoorDame I\'ve felt this way through most of the book! 5mo
currentlyreadinginCO ya I'm just enjoying the vibes at this point 5mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame is it Kerr code or is it upper crust code ? Or is Kerr speaking her own regional dialect of posh? 5mo
rubyslippersreads @DebinHawaii That‘s exactly how I feel. 5mo
rubyslippersreads @mcctrish @DebinHawaii I wonder if The Hotel is actually purgatory? 😏 5mo
mcctrish @rubyslippersreads that makes sense 5mo

Sorry @SerialReader #unpopularopinion I didn't think this was funny at all and I was quite a bit bored. I guess I just don't understand old fashioned humor. #whoknows 🤷🤷 #15 #2019

sophierayton Me too. I have friends who love this book and I'm like "seriously?!" Just goes to show there's a book for everyone and not all books are for all people. 6y

Next book in my Around the Year in 52 Books challenge. Never seen any version of the film so am going into this story completely blind.

Mehso-so

My August reads. I had several relief teaching days last month, and sometimes it's impossible to read in front of a class, even though they are working diligently. This was the last month of #RSO reading for the year (October titles), so I should be reading a wider range, or something different, or maybe nothing at all for a while. #whoknows #notme #stats #readingmonth #bestofaugust #anditsaugust
