When you need a good cry or you need to feel helpless, read this book! It was so compelling. Sandra was just out of her teens when she wrote this, and no one shoyld have to deal with what she has gone through. It's a perfect non-fictipn book for #yawednesday!

Dorothy Must Die | Danielle Paige

I work in a bookstore, and tons of people come in for the Dorothy Must Die series. I read the first book and was pretty disgusted with it. The main character was annoying and nothing felt very well developed for it. I always warn people away from it now.

#unpopularopinion @Libby1

knittedgnome I had this recommended to me and also was not a fan. Barely finished it! 6y
Cailey_Mac I enjoyed it up until the third book; after that it seemed more of a mad-lib book, was extremely dull, and just didn‘t make any sense. 6y
ravenlee I hated that book. And so did my entire book club - and consensus is unheard of! Only two of us even finished it. 6y
See All 11 Comments
ravenlee My #unpopular opinion is that I didn't like The Pillars of the Earth. A customer whose taste seemed in line with mine told me I HAD TO READ IT, so I did. I slogged through it and never enjoyed any of it, but I felt like I had to finish it. 6y
Libby1 Ooh. Doesn‘t look like this one would be for me, either. 6y
jwashreads @knittedgnome and @Cailey_Mac I gpt a BEAUTIFUL ARC of it at work--it was all wrapped in a box and had a pretty bpw and I HAD to have it. I was so disapppinted. 6y
jwashreads @ravenlee aw I'm so sad you didn't like Pillars of the Earth. My dad recommended it to me and I loved it. And the sequel. Haven't read the third one yet. I'm always leary of customer recommendations though. 6y
shaynarae @ravenlee I didn‘t like Pillars of the Earth either, even though it should‘ve been right up my alley. But my biggest #unpopularopin is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah 6y
Minervasbutler Another thumbs down for Pillars of the Earth from me. 6y
thea-block @shaynarae I also didn‘t like The Nightingale by Hannah. I went into it excited having heard great things but I couldn‘t get into the structure of the book or the characters, and too many #triggers for me! Pillars of the Earth has been on my TBR but now I‘m not sure! 6y

Hey #YAWednesday peeps! I had a hard time with this one because I really do not read mysteries and thrillers. I had to go back in my goodreads for a year! From what I understand, her adult thriller, Behind her Eyes, is spectacular! I struggled with the beginning of this one, but the end made up for it!
@TheFunkyBookworm

CoffeeNBooks I thought this was a great book! I just happened to pick it up when I was in the school library with my students. I haven't read Behind Her Eyes yet, but I want to! 6y

I spent most of my day off yesterday reading this because I COULDN'T STOP! I had high expectations, and it met every one of them 😁! A fantastic story that superbly dealt with race issues. Parts of it made me so angry! I loved Jane. I loved Katherine. I loved Red Jack. I can't wait for number 2!

Slajaunie I can‘t read or watch anything with zombies. As a child of the 80‘s I watched all horror and science fiction films. Zombies must have really scared me because I will still have nightmares if I watch or read anything about them, 😟 6y
jwashreads @Slajaunie oh no!! And I'm sure it's not a pleasant nightmare to have! And it must have been hard to avoid them, considering how popular zombies were a few years ago. 6y

Barnes and Noble had double discount days for members this past weekend, and these were part of a BOGO sale, so I got an even bigger discount than normal! I can't wait to read them! (Obviously, I have a mountainous #tbr...)

Odanak Are they fantasy? I can‘t wait to hear how they are. 7y
Slajaunie I liked theses books but they were not page turners. 7y
jwashreads @Odanak they are fantasy, and they're making a movie of them. @Slajaunie are they pretty generic fantasy? I've heard about thrm for years, and I read her Passenger books and really liked them. 7y
Slajaunie @jwashreads I read the series, except the one just released, but they were not books I loved. I felt the storyline was lacking some oomph. It has been a few years since I read them though. 7y
Slajaunie @jwashreads forgive my earlier comments. I had to go back and review the book. I did in fact enjoy the book as well as Never Fade and In the Afterlight. It involves a unique set of circumstances and all that entails. 7y

@joscho, something that makes me unique is that I have a lot of nervous fidgeting habits--and I have permanent marks from fidgeting. I have a bruise in the hollow of me neck from scratching, scars at the bottom of my knee; I push my cuticles down constantly. I once got a seaweed wrap during a massage, and it freaked me out because I couldn't do all the fidgeting I normally do!
#uniquelyou

JoScho Sometimes I wish I would fidget. My anxiety and nerves go straight to my stomach and my mom use to tell me I would have an ulcer before I was 21. I don‘t think I have an ulcer but I have cut all coffee and tea from diet and still struggle with fire gut when I am anxious. We all handle things in different ways and it does make us unique. Thanks for entering 💕 7y

I think if I had read this 10--or even 5--years ago, I would feel differently about it. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a book that is really just a story about people, and not meant to be revelatory. But it seems like it aims to be revelatory--and it just wasn't for me. There were parts of it that were compelling and part that dragged by. It was enough to keep me reading, but I don't think I can say I loved it

1. I am partcipating in the #cobabbuddyread. It's my first buddy read!
2. When I was in kindergarten, I started writing Irene as my name on all my work. I had an older cousin named Irene whom I adored, and I wanted my name to be the same. Now, I'm happy with my name ☺
3. New Rules by Dua Lipa. I blame my husband. He had me watch the video and it was very friendship centric.

Pickpick

I first came across Deborah Tannen in a gender studies class--we were learning about how people communicate, and what gets lost as messages travel back and forth. Her research is so interesting, and as a sister (and since I have two daughters), this book was such a fantastic read!

I got to work in the back today, so I got to listen to A LOT of my audio book. I'm actually really enjoying it. I'm gonna be honest--I didn't think I would!

ReadingRover I felt the same way when I listened to this one. I wasn‘t sure what to expect at first and then I got really into it. My father is a hoarder to some extent. Not to the extreme that hers was but I found myself relating. 7y

#Aprilbookishmadness day 18: A purple cover.

This one was so hard to find!!! This is a book my husband backed on kickstarter because he loved the premise, and it is so beautiful!

And then Dwight is back there photobombing...

Tamra Looks wonderful! Especially after I had a student telling me she was making calculations to disprove evolution. 😖 7y
