Accidentally left the door to my little library space open- Woodford seems to be at home around books! 🤣
I‘m in! My goals are to track my reading time, finish at least one book, read the next section for the #SundayBuddyRead, and make progress on the other four books I‘m reading. #AnyWayYouReadathon

This is truly disturbing. I love the “I have different science” claim. I bet I know who he votes for in 2016 and 2020. This is yet more proof that America needs to embrace real science and not “alternate” ideas. 🤦🏼♀️🥃🧬 As an educator, this really bothers me.

The art of reading, in short includes all the same skills that are involved in the art of unaided discovery: keenness of observation readily available memory, range of imagination, and of course an intellect trained in analysis and reflection. The reason for this is that reading in this sense is discovery, too.
This is year is one of the hardest and most difficult one, I am glad I have books to help me escape the painful reality we are living
So ‘hermeneutics‘ got its name from Hermes, the trickster god of Ancient Greece. Who knew? Still - it‘s a salient reminder of how tricky reading can be. Adler and Van Doren know this well and their guide covers all the bases: from the ‘levels‘ at which we read all the way to genre-specific critiques. You‘ll never know what you‘ve been missing until you learn how to read. That seems to be the message, anyhow. I‘d skip the tests in the back, though.
Terrific book which has completely changed my whole perspective on reading. Reading is a pretty time consuming hobby for those of us that love it. Yet most of us never get half the value from a good book that we would if we became as Adler says “active readers”, people who read with intentionality and aren‘t afraid to be in over their heads.
Before you read another book, read this one!

This week my goals are:
- Make audiobook progress with ‘Sapiens‘ (forgot 📸) & start ‘This Will Only Hurt a Little‘
- Finish: ‘The Unspoken‘ (hopefully before 🛏 today)
- Completely read ‘The Perfect Alibi‘ & ‘The Bishop‘
- Start & read at least 150 pages ‘A Study in Treason‘
- Read 75 pages of each: ‘Shadow of Night‘ ‘Voices from the Inside:...‘ ‘Bird Box‘ & ‘The Night is Forever‘

• I have always loved reading aloud--I find it helps with comprehension and also helps me focus past my OCD, which has been bad lately with unwanted repetitive reading. But now, in my 7th month, I can't STOP reading aloud because I am officially reading to my son! I hope he will know my voice from all this reading time and we will bond because of it 🥰 •

I cant stop laughing. Why would someone write a book to teach someone to read....if that someone can't even read? 😂😂

I feel like if I continue to read books for the rest of my life, I would end up writing this book. The breakdown of how to read a book seems pretty intuitive if you have read a lot of books. A lot of what the author is saying makes sense, but only because I've read a lot of nonfiction. Had I tried to read this back in high school or college, I would probably not find it helpful at all because of it's length and age.
Today is the Australian Reading Hour...like I need a reason to read!
It is if you‘re a book nerd! 😍📚📚📚
There is very little difference between someone who cannot read and someone who will not read. The result of either is ignorance. Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. We must not permit anything to stand between us and the book that could change our lives.
Just realised that if I included the “naughty” series I read (12 novels + 9 novellas), I‘d be done with the 52 books in a year/book a week challenge already. #thatwouldbeweird #wolftales #maybeilladdthemlater
I also read the tagged book in undergrad to help me get ready for grad school.
📖 Yes, if I have to stop, I have to finish that chapter at some point in the day.
🕰 I can read any time of the day. During the school year it is a bit tougher to read as much as I want to, but I fit it in.
🤐 I don't need quiet, I can read with noise, but I prefer a quiet space to read or maybe a little music.
#whenyouread @silversreviews
1. Yep.
2. After dinner and before I fall asleep. And in the middle of the night, if my shoulder wakes me up.
3. Some BG noise is fine, but no TV or music
1. I like to finish a chapter if I can
2. Whenever I can!
3. I prefer quiet 🔇🔕
A day for which this is a suitable end. Finished up a dreadfully overloaded orientation and then finding something intelligent to say about a couple of chapters in this book. Text is definitely dated in its vocabulary and oh my, the reading list is incredibly dated and narrow. Needs a blurb acknowledging all books recommended are part of the western cannon (not the ONLY great books ever written) and by LONG dead white guys.
Hi, I'd like to join in a reading challenge of some kind but am not sure how to do this. I've found this image on the internet and it looks like fun. Just need to know how to start. Can anyone help me? ☺

Instead of planning while my students are at lunch, I‘m going to read! 🤗 I can Definitely tell this book was written in the 40s, revised again in the 70s and finally 2014, but— the authors refer to all writers as “he” and businesspeople as “businessmen”. 🙄
The best kind of #novel is “a work of imaginative literature,” isn‘t it? That‘s why I picked this for today‘s #quotsynov18 prompt.
I freakin‘ love doing the graphics and finding the quotes for this challenge!! Thanks @TK-421 for starting it! 👏🏻👏🏻📚📚❤️❤️
Just saw this on Facebook and my ❤️ stopped....*sigh*

This year has been a real dry spell for me where literature is concerned. To make my year-end goal, I'll have to read 2 books a week for 3 months. Not impossible, but certainly intimidating.
Is this for real? Has anyone read this book?
I'm bristling a bit at a book that wants to show me how to read.
*muffled sounds of panic*
Reading a really interesting article by #mortimerjadler about marking books.
He makes compelling arguments for marking books in creating true 'ownership' and ensuring an 'active' reading experience. He argues the soul of book is more then just the pages and binding, and can only be found when one explores their veiw, opinions agreements and discrepancies!

Got this email today and they didn't ask for any personal info so it seemed legit. Hopefully it means more good ARC books to come! Not sure how I got picked bc my reviews on netgalley are awful due to pure laziness! Lol! May need to step up my game!
