Scarier than King meant in the late nineties…
Still one of my favorite underrated King books. It‘s got spooky ghosts, romance, divorce court, and a wacky ending that feels both hopelessly optimistic and bittersweet at the same time. If you haven‘t read this book, give it a go (especially if you prefer lighter horror).
Seen in Ogunquit 🤣 #autumnplease #bones #teamcryptkeepers @LiseWorks @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks #scarathlon #photochallenge
Not so sure about this one. I was hooked sometimes, but then at times I felt it was too long winded. Kind of normal for King, though. And a huge trigger warning here which I wish I would have known: rape and child murders. I had to skip over some of the ending because I can‘t handle reading about that ⚠️
This is an incredible read, that is by turns beautiful, terrifying, and heartbreaking. The mystery at its heart is not one that reveals itself until the bitter end, and the journey to its ultimate conclusion is immensely riveting. Not only is the primary protagonist engaging and relatable (with some notable exceptions), this book's mostly female cast of secondary protagonists are an absolute delight, and are worth the price of admission alone. 5/5
@AkashaVampie Here's my shot at a #BookishMoodBoard for Bag of Bones! Being a mere 20% of the way through made it a bit tricky to summon the right imagery, but I had fun making this - thanks for the tag!
One of my favorite SK books. I read it when it first came out and there was a definite shift in his writing. It was like he finally became comfortable writing his adult self and fears into his stories.
#ScaryFebruary #Bones
One of King‘s most underrated books. What starts as an intriguing legal thriller quickly unravels and turns into a rumination about trauma, revenge, and racial violence. Mike is a great protagonist, too. I‘m really happy I revisited this book.
I was intrigued by how the story explores grief at the loss of a spouse. It felt very raw indeed.

A re-read however, I remember this book being stronger. The first 2/3 are brilliant. The final 1/3 is comparably weaker. Mot my favourite King, but still solid enough.

Been on vacation, was looking forward to reading more once I landed. Unfortunately a friend got water on my copy. Looks far worse in person. @TheAromaofBooks I may abandon the five spots I have for this book this month.
Happily reading “Bag of Bones” for #losersclub and am suddenly having a yearning for a scary movie marathon. Is anyone else already looking forward to this year‘s #Scarathlon or am I the only weirdo here?
I‘m enjoying all the references to other authors and professional respect he shows them. #losersclub @DGRachel
A little pool time today, it‘s so so hot in SC right now!
Started this today on audio for my commute. Tried to find the original cover art but couldn‘t find confirmation so here‘s my second favorite. #losersclub #stephenking
This started strong and then got tedious at the 2/3 mark for me- #LosersClub #LosersClub2021
Did finish 3/3 for #NutsinMay @Andrew65 and now 5/6 books for #BFC21 @wanderinglynn
Finished two of three books, tagged book may not be done by end of Sunday. But I will try.

This explains why an author may get a bestseller and the reviews are not good - the last book was good so people pick up the next one.....
Make a great day everyone.
1. I prefer mysteries, thrillers and horror (not true crime - it is what I read for work)
2. The story that most recently stuck with me - The Silent Patient (not scary but a mystery/thriller)

Thx for tag @TheSpineView
Want to play @TheNerdyProfessor?

Just started this one yesterday. Already sucked in and hoping I‘ll love it since it‘s also out of my comfort zone.
Still getting through it, but this dude was hungry for some “barely legal“ business when he wrote this one....christ....
Nervously giving Stephen King another chance hahaha
#hauntedhallowswap Pictured are some of my favorite horror books. In general, I‘m a big time Stephen King fan. I love witches, black cats, and pastel goth. Other books I enjoyed that are not pictured include Fledgling by Octavia Butler and Hannibal by Thomas Harris. Somehow along the way I also ended up being really into zombie stories... The Girl With All The Gifts is another fave, but I still haven‘t read the sequel.
Incredible read - filled with insights such as these that catch you off guard. Could not put the book down once I reached page 540 of 660.
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5. Sometimes I think Stephen King is a closet racist and gets away using slurs in his books 🤷♀️.
Thank you for my gift @Annl ☺️☺️ I can‘t wait to read it! #jolabokaflod @MaleficentBookDragon
One of my favorite King books, and I love this cover design. 💚
#Skeletons play a big part in the creepy events that happen in this novel as the main character seeks to find answers to the tragedies of the past.

Had this book on my shelf for awhile. Read close to 100 pages then put it down now picking it back up.. I love Kings plots but wish he wouldn't drag it out.. I always get frustrated with him and yell let's just get on with it already. I can't handle useless rambling but I'm also interested in the plot. Slowly but surely I can get thru it even if I read a few books in between
I finished this one out of stubbornness, rolling my eyes at the widowed, 40-ish author falling in love with the 22-yo, flawless single mother (even if the character is embarrassed at himself). The writing is self-conscious, like King can‘t get out of his own head. The narrator quotes Chandler—when you‘re stuck on a story have a man come through a door with a gun in his hand—after the damsel in distress dies in the narrator‘s arms. #30booksin30days
So here's a thing: I can't bear to write in a book and yet I am utterly delighted when I find someone else's marginalia, especially in such lovely handwriting.
Just started reading this last night. After just finishing Mr. Mercedes, I'm not sure if I should have taken a break from Stephen King...
Mixed feelings about this book—it's not well written. It's messy with a bunch of loose ends King tries to tie up with a ridiculous Scooby-Doo style scene at the very end. I think King's editor probably just waved their red pen over the stack of pages and moved it along. Trigger warning for pretty much everything. It contains one of the most brutal and graphic rape scenes I've ever read. And yet I could NOT put it down.
5⭐'s. This is my new favorite Stephen King book! So beautifully written and full of suspense and ghosts.
