Watchers
Watchers | Dean Koontz
They escape from a secret government: two mutant creatures, both changed utterly from the animals they once were. And no one who encounters them will ever be the same again: a lonely widower; a ruthless assassin; a beautiful woman; a government agent. Drawn together in a deadly hunt, all four are inexorably propelled towards an evil beyond human imagining.

This story pulled at my deepest, strongest heart string…dogs. Watchers is an incredible story. I listened to the audiobook every chance I had. The characters are more than likable, they are lovable. The only thing more scary than the monster are the people who created it. This novel filled my heart and entertained my brain. This is not only one of my favorite Koontz books, it‘s easily an all-time favorite.

KathyWheeler This is one of my all time favorite Koontz books. I remember thinking that the last couple of paragraphs were sappy, but I loved the book. (edited) 10mo

ShelleyBooksie Is this one gory? The story sounds really good but many Koontz books are too dark/gory for me 10mo
NatalieR @KathyWheeler I thought the same thing about the ending, but I‘m glad it ended that way. ❤️🐾 10mo
NatalieR @TheBookgeekFrau Awww I love that image! Such a creative aspect of the story. ❣️ 10mo
NatalieR @ShelleyBooksie There‘s a few gory scenes due to the monster. Overall, it‘s a love story of a couple and a dog. As a fan of horror and tolerance for gore, I think this one is lighter in that department. 10mo

I know this is an unpopular opinion and I am SO sorry! I just went back & forth with this one. I wanted more of Einstein and The Outsider. The end was honestly so good. I really did love Einstein so much. I just didn‘t need to be hammered with all that detail and I could‘ve used less Travis/Nora. (Again, I‘m not big on romance.) So I‘m just not sure how I felt about this. I didn‘t love it, but I didn‘t hate it either. #PBSGreatAmericanRead

Karkar I think this is a great drawing of The Outsider. 3y

For the first half or so, I thought this might be a 5-star audiobook. This is a fun listen: exciting, original and engrossing; the writing is good, and the monster is terrifying. It‘s pretty dated, with far too much time spent on distemper.

Do you know that thing that happens when some male authors try to write female characters well and they end up being perhaps unintentionally sexist and eyeroll-inducing? This book has that thing.😬

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

valeriegeary 🤦🏼‍♀️ Oh man. Or should I say.... Oh men. 4y
Chrissyreadit I love Dean Koontz, he‘s been writing a long time! I read this years ago. Back in the day when we were expected to excuse men instead of hold them accountable 🤣 4y
sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit this is only my second Koontz, believe it or not, but I have enjoyed them both! I do excuse it, mainly because it‘s as old as it is, like I excuse some of my man Stephen King‘s older stuff. 😂 (edited) 4y

This is truly a story that stands the test of time. Einstein‘s tale is a riveting thriller with many twists and turns, that keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout. It‘s been many years since I have read a Dean Koontz book and I am so glad I chose this one.

Got to the “A reread of a favorite book” category in the 2019 Popsugar Reading Challenge so I‘m reading one of my personal favorites. Tonight I got to my favorite excerpt (dark I know, but it‘s just so well written and perfectly placed within the story to increase the intensity).

Another #GreatAmericanRead book read, and as generally is the case with the books on this list, I really liked it! I can imagine this would make a great movie. Lots of action and adventure, with even some romance thrown in.

A quote from another review sums it up quite nicely:

"Cross Lassie with E.T., add a touch of The Wolfen and a dash of The Godfather, and you get a sense of some of the ingredients in this supernatural thriller."

inthegreensandblues I would like to reread this. It's been 20+ years but I remember loving it! I was a huge Koontz fan in my teens. 5y

Great story telling and great story. Koontz's writing style keeps you captivated throughout the story and wanting to read more and more. It's hard to put his books down. Although the ending was predictable, it was still very well written and fun to read. I definitely recommend this book!

KathyWheeler The Watchers is one of my favorites. Others are Twilight Eyes, Dark Rivers of the Heart, the Odd Thomas series, and From the Corner of His Eye (best villain Koontz has ever written). #17booklove Day 5: Fiction Love. I decided to interpret today's theme as "love within a fiction book"; and since fur baby love is better than human love I chose Watchers! There is a relationship between the main character Travis, and a mysteriously smart golden retriever, Einstein. There is human love in this, but it's nowhere near as endearing as the love between a man and his dog.

Many moons ago I read everything Dean Koontz published and remember this being my #firsthorrorbook. I still love the dog.

I know Dean Koontz is not everyone's cup of tea, but I read this book as a kid and I couldn't put it down. I would have done anything for a dog that could talk back to me! Einstein was everything in this book. Thanks, Dad, for always passing me your paperbacks when you were done with them no matter how age-inappropriate they were. #catsvsdogs #dogswin #octphotochallenge
