I'm glad for Miss Marple's having a larger and more immediate role in this twisty mystery, because all the other characters were varying shades of irritating and unpleasant, the epilogue doesn't really make up for a good bit of the behaviour seen before hand. Nastyness and pettiness and apathy, and that's before you add in some very old attitudes and prejudices. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality 2/2 Not the Miss Marple I'd recommend, though come to think of it, this series as a whole is more brain teasers with a clever old lady than a set of novels I'd promote. 🤷🏼‍♂️ ⚠️racism, slur, xenophobia, sexism 2d

This time I listened to a Miss Marple murder mystery (What an alliteration 😜). I always like it when a red herring is used and then the solution comes up unexpected. It is definitely a Miss Marple novel with her participating in the action - a lot more than in the other stories I have read/listened to so far.

A classic mystery from Agatha Christie featuring Miss Marple. She is visiting an old school friend when a murder occurs. I did like this book but I prefer the Hercule Poirot mysteries. I felt that this dragged on the middle and I had problems keeping the cast of characters straight. But overall a solid read. I gave it 3 stars

I enjoyed this novel, and not just because of Emilia Fox's interpretation of a southern (US) accent. The characters are complex and realistically cagey, and Miss Marple rocks, as usual. The observations about the differences between US and English culture are interesting. I can't judge how accurate the English side is, but Christie basically suggests that United Statesians don't mind shameless self-promotion, and I can't say she's wrong.

I only started reading Christie in the last few years. This year, I'm reading through the Miss Marple series with a friend.

This is book 5 in the series and one of the stronger ones, in my opinion. Marple is a part of the story from page one, which I love because she's such a great character. The mystery had several layers to it, making it a bit more complex than previous books.

Overall, I had a wonderful time at Stoneygates with Miss Marple.

Yesterday I was here, and today I'm back home, doing dishes while listening to the tagged book (with cats staring at me wondering why I'm not sitting and petting them indefinitely after being away for a week).

Miss Marple visits an old friend, Carrie Louise, convinced that she is in danger. Then an attempt is made on Carrie Louise's husband's life and her stepson is murdered. Worse still, somebody may be poisoning Carrie Louise herself.

I read this 10 years ago when I found the family relationships too complicated to remember. This time I made a family tree as I went along. Even having read it before, I was wrong about the murderer's identity.

rwmg @ShyBookOwl I read this about 10 years ago but I've now got up to it in an intermittent read through the whole of Christie's detective fiction. 1y

My fifth Marple. I loved that we got Miss Marple from beginning to end for a change. Probably my least favorite so far in terms of the mystery, but still a cozy and enjoyable read.

Another Agatha reread for me and I really liked it! I had probably only read it once before because I didn‘t remember any plot points. A short and satisfying Miss Marple mystery!

This one was a bit more confusing. I think because there were so many people to keep track of. But it‘s Christie, so you know it‘s good.

Teacher appreciation week!!
The main mystery was very mysterious. I felt like this was almost the exact plot of another book, though I can‘t remember where from. The solution, per say, was out far for me. Even though I did enjoy how it was put together. There was so much racing unseemingly connected pieces that just didn‘t make sense. Kinda just an unwell week of family where I don‘t feel bad for anybody but Louise herself. #AgathaChristie

Late night of more babysitting gives me time to start my next AC novel. Not sure where this one is going just yet. Though it is a Ms Marple mystery where she is asked to go check on an old time friend by a mutual. Mutual has some bad feelings about the situation and sent Ms Marple along to check. #AgathaChristie

Another Miss Marple mystery. I liked this one but not as much as the previous two. It was a little more obvious, & I didn‘t love the characters. Still a pick though. #scarathlon #teamslaughter

Worst Agatha Christie book I‘ve read. I didn‘t care about the characters or the solution to the murders. Also, the casual racism is jarring.

I finished this today—works nicely for #readingresolutions #SuspensefulSunday! I really enjoyed Miss Marple in this one—using her “frail old lady” exterior to its best advantage as she got to the bottom of the mystery! I did find the ending a little too sudden/rushed, but overall, it was a solid Miss Marple mystery that kept me guessing.

Miss Marple is asked to keep an eye on a friend who is believed to be in some sort of danger at her house, which also serves as a home for delinquent boys. Sure enough, poison and gunfire come into play and murders keep piling up until Miss Marple solves the case.

Tamra Ms. Marble is the definition of cozy mystery. 😊 7y

I'm admittedly not a fan of Miss Marple but this book was better than the first few in the series (A Murder is Announced not withstanding). Christie does murder in remote country houses better than most and this book was no exception. A cast of barely likable characters, enough red herrings to keep things entertaining, and a clever ending make this classic Christie. Miss Marple is no Poirot but she might be growing on me a bit. #mystery #Christie

My first Miss Marple down! It took a while to get going, but the audiobook was a nice way to pass the time doing chores and such. And, yes, @TaraNewman and @BillBlume that is technically what she said, but not like that 😂😂 and it's in reference to how the murder was committed, but not literally? Trying to not spoil 😁

Mc_cart_ny Yeah, this title makes me giggle 😉 7y
BillBlume @Merethebookgal given how much this has made me chuckle (in the most juvenile way), I might have to read this now. 7y

Merethebookgal @BillBlume 😂😂😂 Well, this might be one you'd want to try via audiobook? The version I got from my library's Overdrive had a good narrator (Emilia Fox) though she could use some work on her southern American accent, lol. The only thing that was a little hard to follow was keeping character names and their relationship to each other straight, bc one of the characters had been married a bunch of times so there's stepkids & half-siblings, etc. 7y

I don't think I've ever read this one before, so the conclusion was a surprise. Very well done, you could argue that a mystery writer is somewhat like a magician, keeping you looking in one direction whilst the truth is really in the opposite corner. Misdirection. Really enjoyed this one. #christiescrimeclub

#novemberland #day14 #nosycharacters Miss Marple is one of the most famous nosy old ladies in crime fiction. She has a way of knowing exactly what is going on everywhere she is,who's doing what & whom & of putting those observations together to catch anyone guilty of the smallest crimes, from who stole the apples off the tree to who exactly put the poison in the marmalade.Mostly written off as a harmless old woman in the beginning but not for long.
