Took #hyggehourreadathon outside this afternoon. Beautiful fall day for our walk. Rereading an old favorite despite the pile of books I‘m currently in the middle of.
I am so excited that this is happening! This is one of my favorite books (my paperback copy is probably the oldest book on my shelves), and I‘ve also watched the movie multiple times.
Salma Hayek Pinault is an Executive Producer, so I am very hopeful that this will be great!

1. Cherries
2. The wedding meal of the tagged book comes to mind but there are plenty of shared meals in it.

1. Tagged. It also took me forever to find it since I lived in Providence, RI at the time and finding books in Spanish was very difficult.
2. John Grisham
3. Salvar el Fuego (Saving the Fire) by Guillermo Arriaga. I fell in love with his writing after I read this book and have been on buddy reads for his books where he joins the last meeting and he is AMAZING!

Tagged is the book that really introduced me to the sub-genre.💛
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of my favourite reads of the year so far, a seamless magical realism about love, family, and coming-of-age. #magicalrealism #heartwarming #powerfulwomen

🍫Dark chocolate with nuts but I accept milk and white chocolate too😜
🍫Chocolate the one I mentioned above (dark with or without nuts) or the regular ones ex Kit Kat sneakers chunky, peanut butter etc.
Thank you @OriginalCyn620 🍫🍫🍫

The next row of my #readinglogsnake is for a #rplbooksandbrews bookclub read Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquirel. I chose a The yarn that was chosen to represent this book (romatic tragedy) is called monet. Now, I took issue with many things in this book (hated the main male love interet, the horrible way the Tia's sister died, Tia's final choice in a partner), but I did find myself enjoying the entire story of the book. 4/5 ⭐️

Love this book, its cover, its “chocolate”! My favorite cinnamon dark chocolate-Taza Chocolate & chocolate coveted bears! 📚🍫🎄🧑🏻🎄☃️
3/5⭐ The magical realism is stunning, but the book overall just isn't my cup of tea. #booked2022
Whimsical, funny, and filled with beautiful writing. I love magical realism, but this one was almost a little too over-the-top at times. I felt kind of let down by the end, but really enjoyed this book for the most part.
My #IncludesARecipe book for #Booked2022… it contains several of them, and I‘m planning to try a couple of Tita‘s recipes myself. 😋

A gorgeous Latin novel filled with recipes. Such a classic and one I think about every year during #womenintranslation month.
Years ago I read one book by Esquivel and disliked it. Now I've read my second book by her and disliked it again. I'm just not in her targeted group. Too much of the drama. Oh, and even more drama. Aaaaand a bit more drama. Then add some magical realism that is so absurd, it made me laugh. Of course I kindly refused Google Books suggestion to buy the next volume of the series. Thanks, but not thanks.
1. Death on the Trans-Siberian Express…a gift from myself 😎
2. Pride and Premeditation to my sister, who likes mysteries and Jane Austen
3. Definitely an unusual love story
#wondrouswednesday
I recommend a lot of books and it all depends on the person. However, I do tend recommend these the most:
1. Interview with the Vampire - Anne Rice
2. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan- Lisa See
3. Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff- Christopher Moore
4. Molokai- Alan Brennert
5. Like Water for Chocolate -Laura Esquivel
6. Outlander -Diana Gabaldon

I finished the last crazy chapter of this magical realism story with breakfast this morning. I enjoyed the interweaving of the story with recipes and the descriptions of making the food which made it a perfect choice for #FoodAndLit. However, I did not enjoy the central love story at all, and I was disappointed in the ending although I knew what was coming from other reviews.

Despite the looming specters of death and heart-break, Like Water For Chocolate reads like a well-written rom-com. It‘s certainly a lot more fun than, say, One Hundred Years Of Solitude. It‘s easy to read, but it‘s not without substance. The recipes are a neat hook, but that‘s not all there is to love about this short, bittersweet family saga. My #bookspin Bingo card for September! My reading took a hit the last couple of weeks due to my best friend‘s wedding, but hopefully I can get back on track this month! 😀
I finished listening to this one and I loved it! 🥰 The narrator, Yareli Arizmendi, did an amazing job! You could feel every single line. A beautiful and heart wrenching love story. #comoaguaparachocolate #lauraesquivel #likewaterforchocolate #audiobook #audio #author #spanish #romance
Listening to this audiobook! 😃👍 Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel #comoaguaparachocolate #lauraesquivel #spanish #audiobook #likewaterforchocolate
1. Almost all the meals from Like Water for Chocolate. I've made the Rose Quail recipe before (delicious) but I would love to try the other ones from the book.
2. Biff from Lamb by Christopher Moore for an entertaining conversation.
3. Yes! I own Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Friends, & True Blood cookbooks. I am trying to get the Outlander one.

Since I was reading Mexican Gothic for my #Booked2021 LatinX author but bailed on it, I immediately picked up this one, which I'd never read. (Also have never seen the movie.) Would have read it in one sitting if it hadn't been so late last night. LOVED it. Magical realism is one of my favorite genres.

I‘m not sure exactly what I expected from this book, which I have heard people rave about for years. But it wasn‘t this. All of the characters were basically horrible and magical realism is just not my thing. Meh. At least it was short. 😖
I fell in love with the characters and the magical aspects of the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
1. Prior to the pandemic, my husband worked most weekends and 2-3 nights a week. It‘s really been an adjustment having him home most of the time. It‘s especially been an adjustment for him!
2. I‘m grateful that the days are slowly but surely getting longer again.

For Spanish V in high school, we watched the movie during class. Kinda can‘t believe the teacher got away with it, cuz it was kinda risqué ??
I read the English translation of the book, but it is one that I like to revisit periodically. It‘s like a good adult bedtime story: romance, magical happenings, rebelling against crazy family members and recipes!!
Watch the movie 1st in this case. It will help it go down easier! #throwbackthursday

Like most of you I don‘t reread a lot but I have taken the time to read these favorites.
Gotta love charity stores. I have been wanting to read this for years and just found a copy for R16 (less than $1). And it counts for my #AroundtheWorldin80Books Book Club
💙 I made it to 10,000! I‘m so thankful for this community & all of the wonderful friendships, conversations, swaps, & enabling that‘s come from it!
📚 I want to celebrate by giving away the tagged book, which my Secret Santa at work gave me but I already have & love. Just leave a comment with one of your favorite books you‘ve read since Christmas by Wednesday, August 19th & I‘ll pick a random winner. Yes to international friends!

I watched this movie in one of my high school Spanish classes and intended to read the book soon after, but I never did.
Now, some 13 or 14 years later, I can finally mark it as read! A totally weird but oddly sweet novel about love ultimately wining. Couldn't quite mark it as a Pick and So-So does it no justice, so I chose not to officially review it.
If you want to be charmed but also bewildered, then this short little novel may be for you!
Genre you don‘t read - Like Water for Chocolate - tragic love story with abuse
#TBRCrewBingo
#TBRcrew #highlyoverrated #NWC (there‘s a movie too which I‘m supposed to watch and discuss with my friend)
This book was on my kryptonite list for 2020. It is not at all what I expected. I did not like the characters or the storyline. The only character I even cared about was Gertrudis. Mama was abusive. Pedro is an asshat. Tita is wishywashy. Rosaura is a terrible sister and mother.
I‘ve read this in English and in Spanish but never tried any of the recipes. This post is making me fancy something sweet so maybe I‘ll rectify that (if I can get ingredients!). #chocolateday #flyhighjuly
