Their Eyes Were Watching God | Zora Neale Hurston

#SundayFunday @bookmarktavern

Choosing this was tough, I‘m going with Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. It has a bit everything, romance, drama, social novel, crime, survival story.

BookmarkTavern Oh that is an excellent choice! Thanks for posting! 5d

I think this book is one of the Platonic ideals for time travel/ science fiction because it doesn't ignore the very real consequences of someone from one time and one contxt, and more importantly a set of rights, would face in a different time. Love recommending this.

BookmarkTavern Oh this is such an amazing choice! Thanks for sharing! 5d

I don't have a favorite genre. I'm a mood reader so it depends.

Modern Sci-Fi: The Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Historical fiction based on real person: Hidden Figures or Beneath a Scarlett Sky.
Fantasy: The Name of the Wind or Six of Crows
Epic Fantasy: LOTR and Game of Thrones
Mystery: DCI Jack Logan series or the Cormoran Strike series.
Romance slow burn: The Wall of Winnipeg and Me

TheSpineView Romance series: The Fallen Men and Ash and Embers. Romance age gap: Older, Don't Kiss the Bride and Birthday Girl. Dark Romance: The Lords Haunting Adeline Poetry: Shel Silverstein and Emily Dickinson 6d
Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes Cozy mysteries: Amanda Flower, Carlene O‘Connor. Traditional mysteries: Craig Johnson, Louise Penny. Historical non-fiction (is that a thing?) Abbot Kahler, Eric Larson (edited) 6d
BookmarkTavern What an excellent list! Thanks for posting! 6d
DogMomIrene I recommend The Name of the Wind too, but with the caveat that Rothfuss hasn‘t finished the trilogy… in like a decade plus😟 5d
TheSpineView @DogMomIrene I don't think he will. Every time this is mentioned, I comment that Brandon Sanderson will finish the series just like he did with WOT. 5d

I love recommending this book for science fiction! Even though it‘s really heavy on the science side, Mark Wayne is such a funny, charming narrator, that it feels easy to understand.

And I love the story of hope in the face of insurmountable odds, and a community coming together to rescue him.

#SundayFunday Hope you‘re all having a great day, and don‘t forget to tag me!

definitely with something in mind, I can't browse, it's no good for me, 😂 😂 if I did, I'd come out with the whole store .

Mind you, that doesn't work either, I have 3 translations of The Aeneid, and let's not even get to how many versions of Frankenstein or Romo and Juliet I have - ummm, 7 for the first and 5 for the second, so yeah, no browsing for me 😂

BookmarkTavern I sympathize completely! I have 9 copies of Dracula. 🧛🏻 Thanks for sharing! 2w

I missed a tag from @Sace last week, so it‘s #SundayFunday today instead. In a brick & mortar store, I‘m definitely a browser. My immediate area is sadly bereft of indie bookstores so whenever I‘m out vacationing in the world, I try to patronize the indies I don‘t have and will pick up whatever sounds good or they recommend. I actually picked up a copy of Orbital from a store rec early this year before it started getting all its award attention!

BookmarkTavern I always try to hit an indie bookstore on my vacations! It‘s always a highlight of every trip. Thanks for posting! 2w
