My first Adrienne Young and it won't be the last. I love how fast-paced this book was!

Not sure about reading the 2nd book in this series, though. Should I? 🤷

Lovelylottereader Haven‘t read this one but I did read Fable by her and really enjoyed it!! 1y

Not much of a young adult reader but this was a great story to lead into the 2nd book! Loved the Viking feel and woman empowerment portions of this book! #skyinthedeep #adrienneyoung

I had really high hopes for this one, but it did not meet expectations. It felt very rushed, trope-y, and predictable. The premise was really good and I feel like this could have been fantastic, but the execution was lacking. It ended very tidy and again, predictable with a dash of Stockholm syndrom. 2.5/5

I really enjoyed the world building in this book, the plot was a good mix of suspense, action, romance and a little mystery. The MC Eelyn was brave, fierce and slightly emotional. I liked the romance between her and Fiske but its not one of my favourites because half of the book he hated her. The ending was good and I liked how the pacing was fairly fast for most of the book. It had a good happily every after ending and I enjoyed this standalone.

So I found out my copy of Sky In the Deep was bound in its cover upside down, when closed and the cover is right-side up all of the pages inside are upside down. I made a post about it on Instagram and Adrienne Young responded! It made my day!

PS: Anyone ever bought or borrowed a book that had binding errors?

Branwen SO cool! I love this! 😃💕📚👍 3y
Sweetkokoro I bought a book once where the middle pages were bound out of order and another where the last few pages where printed from a printer that clearly ran out of ink or had a blockage of some sort, half the page was not printed and it was right down the vertical center so you only got half of every line for 10 pages. 3y
Saknicole I have a copy of All Quiet on the Western Front with 30 pages of a kind of Soviet spy thriller novel bound right in the middle. Text and headers totally different but page sizes the same. 3y

I started reading the book Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. I like it so far though it made me realize I don't think I've read many viking related books. In a #LitsyLove side note I sent a letter to @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @Soubhiville

Eelyn is so brilliantly written - strong willed but full of emotions that compasses every woman. Even though if felt very Viking-ish the relationships were relatable

I started reading this book and got about 4 chapters in and then didn't pick it up again for a couple of days. Once I did pick it up again, I couldn't put it down. The story was so gripping and filled with real emotions. The characters were likeable and believable. I want to read her other books now.

I mostly read this because it is the prequel to The Girl the Sea Gave Back, which I‘ve just won in a giveaway. I probably wouldn‘t have gotten through it if it weren‘t for the audiobook: the writing is slow, overly descriptive, tending towards navel gazing. I did like the story, the moral of it, and the characters. Unfortunately the characters, despite pretty good progression, were not well fleshed-out. It wasn‘t bad, but I‘m glad to be moving on.

Despite being an easy read, it took me a few days longer than usual to get through this book, mostly because I found the characters and dialogue to be bland. While I appreciated the writing, the setting, the message, and the struggle, the characters just felt extremely bland. I like a little spice added to character interactions. All they seemed to talk about was the situation they were in. A lot of showing not telling when it came to relations.

I really enjoyed this story. As a one shot fantasy book it was perfect. It had the feel of Vikings and for those gamers Out there I kept seeing the main character as Alloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. If you like fantasy but get overwhelmed by some of the deep worlds this is a good one. No supernatural or magic in this but the story and characters are so good you won‘t miss that.

This one gets mixed reviews, but I really loved it! I think it‘s the first time I‘ve read historical fiction based on the Vikings. I appreciate that Eelyn - a warrior in the Aska tribe - is strong and sensitive, as are some other characters, male and female. These two things don‘t have to be mutually exclusive! And...Vikings!! I definitely need to read more Viking era books. Also love that this is a stand-alone novel!

So this started with a bit of a pet-peeve where basically the entire storyline is summed up in the blurb. That being said, the first half contained a lot more soul-destroying sorrow and a lot less fighting than I expected. The story only really kicked in with the second half. Overall I liked this book well enough to keep going.I enjoyed the way the gods were used and Viking vibes are always great!

This was a great historical fiction novel! I will say that this war that was going on was a little childish but it worked. The only thing I really kind of didn‘t like was the final battle that just kind of ended which stopped the flow. Other than that this was a great title and I can‘t wait for another one. Sit seems this might be a series. But it works as a stand alone!
