pickAddicting. 11/5 ⭐️. Even though the story is heavily post-apocalyptic, it‘s still so human in the way the character‘s lives overlap & the survivors find ways to begin again while remembering their old lives. Mandel writes the characters so well that I almost forgot it centered around a pandemic. I could (and will) talk about this book to everyone I know!
P.S. I definitely set this as my laptop screen as it was giving me post-Georgia Flu vibes…
I haven‘t been able to put this down since I started it last night! I‘m already on chapter 19. Something about the parallel between this epidemic and the current state of the world is really drawing me in to the story. I like how there‘s a balance of times before and during the Collapse. Definitely a page turner!
so-soThe story was okay, but it didn‘t pull me in. I‘m glad it was short because it definitely was enough. I think I liked the idea of the story better than how it was written.

Nina is relatable and the author did a great job of easily transporting me into Nina‘s life in Larchmont. I really enjoyed The Alienist, so I‘m a little concerned about all of the negative reviews on this one. Despite the lack of glowing praise, I‘m curious enough to find out about this story for myself. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼

A great month for reading despite going back to work! Fav book is tagged.
My desire to join the #MagicalReadathon2019 (better late than never!) led me to most of the books I read. I successfully earned an Outstanding for the #OWLsReadathon2019! One of the books also doubled for my #ReadLikeRory challenge.
I also finally finished both the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter series, the latter for #HPBuddyRead.

pickNarnia has come to an end. I can‘t believe I‘ve made it through this 700+ page chunkster! The final installment in the series tied up all of the storylines very well, and I loved that it mentioned all of the characters from the beginning to the end of Narnian time. Definitely won‘t be the last time I step into Aslan‘s country! 🦁 100% #reread worthy ❤️

Book felt slow and even though it did give some great insight into life with people diagnosed with mental illness such as schizophrenia, I was sort of bored through most of the story. Also, I didn‘t understand any of the (few) Patty Hearst references made throughout.
However - this satisfies my DADA OWL!

I‘m trying to find books for my high schoolers to read independently. I‘m choosing a book for each grade level, so I can give some assessment to hold them accountable.
I‘m looking for a book with interest level grades 9-12, but reading level 6-8 (I teach in special ed.). Would be great if an audiobook existed, and I don‘t want books that‘ve been adapted to film.
Any ideas? 🤔
