#SelfImprovementSept #SelfHelpBook I don‘t tend to read self-help books, but I did read both of Marie Kondo‘s books on tidying. It helped me a lot. It‘s a work in progress, but I‘ve tamed the disasters that were my closets and drawers. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

#SelfImprovementSept #WhatYouLove #MuseumDay is almost here. Last year, we went to small natural history museum w/dinosaur exhibit. Lots of fun. Different museums participate from year to year. You have to sign up. Each person can bring one guest, so both my husband and I signed up so that one of us could bring our son. Definitely check it out. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-2019/ @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

#SelfImprovementSept #SomethingNew #Halloween So here are a few new decorations for fall/Halloween. Hadn‘t cared much about Halloween in years. Then my son was born. He loves going to the various stores to look at the Halloween displays. We make a special trip to Lowe‘s just for him. So now I find I am equally excited, and decorating (with some easy DIY) has definitely been good for my mental health. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

#SelfImprovementSept #flowers A day behind. I realized as I went outside to search for some flowers that I don‘t really have many. 😞 It‘s so hot in the summer and we struggle with mosquitoes, so I don‘t tend to bother with yard stuff much. The hydrangea is the only thing I‘ve personally planted and managed to keep alive. Maybe this fall I‘ll buy a mum. Definitely want to try container gardening next year. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

#SelfImprovementSept #hobby Over the years, I‘ve had different hobbies: long distance running, journaling, quilling, hiking, card making, etc. Besides reading, the hobby I‘ve done longest (for 25 years) is doll collecting. My focus has fluctuated over the years. For past 8 years, I‘ve focused mostly on limited ed Disney dolls. The funny thing is I didn‘t play much with dolls as a kid. I was a tomboy. 😂 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

#BBRC #ER (Non-fiction) Bought this at Walmart during Back to School sales. For 97 cents, it‘s decent. It gives about two pages of info on the sun and all the planets except Earth (one page) and moon (one page). BB-8 Finds a Friend | Nate Millici

#BBRC #ER (Reader‘s Choice) We‘re a Star Wars house, and my 4 year old loves us to read him Star Wars books. Little Golden Books are fine, but these are shorter and can be used to teach him reading later on. I love the pictures and the glossy paper; most easy readers have matte paper. Title is pretty explanatory: BB-8 is saved by Rey and they become friends. Geared toward pre-k to K crowd. @LibrarianRyan

OnlyYoo What a cute lamp! 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @OnlyYoo, thanks. We bought it a few years ago on ThinkGeek. 5y
LibrarianRyan Really? Most Ears I know are glossy. Maybe a library edition vs bookstore edition? 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @LibrarianRyan, maybe? Or maybe I‘m using wrong word? Beginning reader? I‘m talking about the ones with levels or steps in upper right corner. The majority of ones I see at Barnes and Noble seem matte. All the ones we own (e.g. Splat the Cat, Biscuit, Pete the Cat, Paw Patrol, etc.) are matte. I haven‘t leafed through every single one at B&N, though. As for longer books we own like Berenstain or Ferdinand, it‘s 50/50 matte to glossy. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
LibrarianRyan @Lady_Tigana_20 yep we were talking about the same thing. It must be a difference between library and market copy. 5y

(Day 28: Pink & Green) True story, told with photographs, of a Kenyan baby hippo who lost his mother and pod during a 2004 tsunami. Alone and afraid, he attached himself to a 130 year old tortoise (Mzee) who had lived as a loner at an animal sanctuary. Inexplicably, Mzee accepted Owen, and they forged a bond. Such a sweet story. 😭 #ColormePretty @Sweetkokoro

KristenDuck I looooovvvee this book!! 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 (Source: Snopes) “As of December 2005, a year after their initial meeting, Owen and Mzee were still together. By March of 2007, conservation workers had removed Mzee from the enclosure and introduced Owen to Cleo, a 13-year-old female hippo who had gone without the companionship of her own species for over ten years.” This made me sad for Mzee, but hippos can be very dangerous, and they were concerned for his wellbeing. Still sad Mzee is alone. 😭 5y

CarolynM I love Elizabeth Peters❤️ 5y
SheilaChew Amelia Peabody is the best! Love all those books! 5y
BooknerdsLife Beautiful stack 😍❤️🍊🥕 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @CarolynM @SheilaChew Allegedly, Amelia Peabody Mysteries is in development. Not sure if anything will come of it, but I‘d watch if they ever get it going. 5y
CarolynM @Lady_Tigana_20 Oooo! That's interesting. Can't wait to see how it's cast. I've never been able to think of anyone who could do justice to Ramses. 5y

(Day 5: Grey) I had a hard time finding grey, but then I remembered these gems. Kay helped Tolkien‘s son edit The Silmarillion. Then Kay wrote his own High Fantasy trilogy. These may not be for everyone, but if you love beautiful prose and can handle heartbreak when favorite characters die—and they will die—you may like these. If not, try his later work. #ColormePretty #PhotoChallenge #fantasy @Sweetkokoro

Lucy_Anywhere The Lions of Al-Rassan is the only book of his that I've read, and I loved it even if it broke my heart! I need to read more of his books 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @Lucy_Anywhere That was such a good book! I love how he twists the knife in your heart with all his books. 5y

(Day 4: Red, White, and Blue) A day late, but we went to friends‘ home for the 4th. These are some of my Disney books. I have a modest collection, but my wish list is growing. Anyone have any recommendations? @Sweetkokoro #ColormePretty #PhotoChallenge #Disney #redwhiteblue

laur89 😍 which was your fav one? I love Disney! The only Disney park book I‘ve read which was really good is 5y
KatieDid927 @laur89 I second this question! I‘m a big Disney fan and haven‘t read any parks books yet. Stacking your rec! 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @laur89, I really like the top five books because they are full-color. Being slightly older books, there are pics of rides and buildings that have been reworked or demolished. WDW has been on a mission to change things up. I love when they add stuff, but it can hurt when they take away. 😞 I added your rec to my TBR. Thanks! 😀 5y

Lady_Tigana_20 @laur89 @KatieDid927, Tom Bricker (he does gorgeous Disney photography) has a list. Woohoo! https://www.disneytouristblog.com/disney-theme-park-books/ 5y
KatieDid927 @Lady_Tigana_20 Oh I love Tom‘s blog! Didn‘t realize he had a list, thanks! 5y
laur89 @Lady_Tigana_20 @KatieDid927 ooh I love a good book list!!! I also remembered that Book of the Mouse club has a podcast all about different Disney books: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/book-of-the-mouse-club/id1390274130 5y
laur89 @Whimsical.Curiosity More Disney fans!! We might have to do round 2 of the Disney themed swap... 😉 5y
KatieDid927 @laur89 Yes plz! 🙏🏼 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @laur89, I‘m new. What is a Disney themed swap? 5y
laur89 @Lady_Tigana_20 Check out #DisneySwap - we each shopped for 2 books and 2 goodies for each other, and opened up the swap boxes on a set date. The first time around was just 2 of us, but maybe next time we‘ll have more people! 5y
Whimsical.Curiosity Yessss #disneyswap was amazing! 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 That looks fun. I run Secret Santa in a private Disney FB group, so I know how fun it is to send and receive Disney stuff. 😄 5y
laur89 Next time we arrange one, I‘ll be sure to tag you in the post!! 5y

(Day 3: Brown) I bought my husband the Making of series by Rinzler because he‘s a huuuuge Star Wars fan. Guess who ended up reading them? They are really interesting. And, as a bonus, if someone breaks into my house, I could kill the person with one blow. These books are crazy heavy. #ColormePretty #photochallenge #StarWars @Sweetkokoro

Sunraven I love that photo. 😆 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 I ❤️ baby Chewie. 5y
Scochrane26 My friends love Star Wars so much that they‘re planning their 3rd trip to Celebration next yr. I‘ll have to remember this book when I need to get them a gift. (edited) 5y
Lady_Tigana_20 @Scochrane26, that sounds fun for your friends. We‘ve never been to Star Wars Celebration, but we are planning fourth trip to WDW partially to see Galaxy‘s Edge—the Star Wars expansion land in Hollywood Studios. 5y

(Day 2: Green)This is one of my oldest books. To this day, I love archers in books and film, and it‘s all because of this book and Disney‘s foxy hero. ;) #ColormePretty @Sweetkokoro

Sweetkokoro I love meeting fellow Robin Hood Fans! I have the same love for archers because of him (and Disney‘s fox version too haha) I love the art in this picture! 5y

Pickpick

Finished this book while sitting on my basement stairwell—what better place to read a Stephen King novel? Haven‘t read King in decades but always meant to read this. The ending wrecked me. I feel like if I had read this in my 20s, I would have shed some tears and moved on. At 45, death seems so much closer. I‘ve always felt his best work showed that the true monsters aren‘t supernatural but are, instead, we humans and what we do to each other.

jb72 I read this last year and absolutely loves it. It just rips your heart out and stomps on it. 5y

I‘ve never bought a book at the airport—too expensive—but I read an article a couple weeks ago that said Paradies Lagardère-owned airport shops in US and Canada will buy back a book (50% back) within 6 months of your buying it. Any condition and all you need is the receipt. #bookwormbingo

Found signed copy of #Pachinko at local #Goodwill for $1. Didn‘t know it was signed till I got it home. (Her signature was upside down on page.) While I have never bothered to stand in line to get a book signed by author, it is still cool to think #MinJinLee touched this book . . . my book. What about everyone else? Ever found a signed book at a yard sale? Thrift store? Author signed in person? What‘s your story? #signedbook #thriftbookfind

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awesome find!!! 🙌🏻 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I found a copy of The Great Alone signed at goodwill!! 6y

BarbaraJean That‘s so cool! I‘ve found a couple of author signatures in books, after buying a book secondhand. My favorite find was a signed Madeleine L‘Engle book that sat on my TBR shelf for so long that by the time I picked up the book to read and found the signature, I wasn‘t even sure where I‘d bought it! 6y

VanChocStrawberry I love that! I find signed copies at half price books sometimes—Local-ish authors as well as owl crate books. But my favorite finds are a couple of Madeleine L‘Engle signed copies. 6y

My first Litsy post. 💕 Using BORN FREE as my first book for #MayScavengerHunt. Author born on my birthday (January 20th); more than 300 pages; a character dies; made into a movie; and written by an author from different country. #MayMadness @Clwojick @RadicalReader @TheReadingMermaid

Clwojick That sounds like a great book! I‘ll have to check it out ♥️ 6y
tammysue 🙌🏻🙌🏻 6y
Lady_Tigana_20 @Clwojick, not sure if you have ever heard of Christian the lion. There was a book and a famous video about his reunion with former owners. He was bought at Harrods in late 60s and eventually the owners decided he needed to go back to Africa. Joy Adamson‘s ex-husband, George, taught him how to survive in African wild. He even had his own pride. Videos are on YouTube. I read the book about Christian, but I have only ever seen the movie about Elsa. 6y

Buechersuechtling Welcome @Lady_Tigana_20 to this warm-hearted bookish network. I really love it here and soon got kind of addicted. As I started here I was thinking about opening my own blog but hesitated because I knew this would cost time that I could not spend reading. Additionally there was the GDPR coming up … As I then discovered @Litsy I found out that it was exactly what I was looking for: A reading log with short reviews and communication with others. 6y
