“Imagination can bring even the largest creatures to life.”
“Imagination can bring even the largest creatures to life.”
“A larger-than-life story about the man who made dinosaurs walk again.“
A whimsical and inspiring biography of Waterhouse Hawkins, who brought dinosaurs to life through his groundbreaking models, igniting public fascination with paleontology.
“Just as he had hoped, his models were the start of something wonderful: the world‘s first encounter with these ancient animals”
I loved the authors note at the end and reading about what inspired her to write about this story and this artist. She mentions how she was fond of the interesting name Waterhouse Hawkins and how he allowed others to become familiar with dinosaurs
The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins took place in London, during the mid-nineteenth century and is about a real artist, Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins. Hawkins loved painting and sculpting, specifically animals. Hawkins dreamt of sculpting realistic dinosaurs in a hope to teach everyone what they had looked like, and to connect people to the past. This story goes through the stages of curiosity, struggle, creativity, and eventually success.
(Letter D) Loved this picture book about Waterhouse Hawkins. No one knew what dinosaurs looked like up until the mid-1800s when Hawkins created the first life-sized models of dinosaurs. When he was asked to come to NYC, tragic events unfolded, but Waterhouse rose above disappointment and went on to build dinosaurs for places like the Smithsonian. Fascinating read. Do yourself a favor and google his name. #BBRC #A2Z #dinosaurs @LibrarianRyan
