Making Comics
Making Comics | Scott McCloud
12 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 5 to read
Scott McCloud tore down the wall between high and low culture in 1993 with Understanding Comics, a massive comic book about comics, linking the medium to such diverse fields as media theory, movie criticism, and web design. In Reinventing Comics, McCloud took this to the next level, charting twelve different revolutions in how comics are generated, read, and perceived today. Now, in Making Comics, McCloud focuses his analysis on the art form itself, exploring the creation of comics, from the broadest principles to the sharpest details (like how to accentuate a character's facial muscles in order to form the emotion of disgust rather than the emotion of surprise.) And he does all of it in his inimitable voice and through his cartoon standin narrator, mixing dry humor and legitimate instruction. McCloud shows his reader how to master the human condition through word and image in a brilliantly minimalistic way. Comic book devotees as well as the most uninitiated will marvel at this journey into a onceunderappreciated art form.

Brilliant!
Much like the author‘s previous masterpiece, UNDERSTANDING COMICS, this is a foundational text for any aspiring comics creator. Thorough, entertaining and massively informative, this book goes over every detail in planning and executing your vision for a successful comic.
I can‘t recommend this enough!!

Today is one of my favorite bookish days of the year! Lots of independent comic shops, bookstores, and libraries participate. My family and I go every year. And at our local shop there are lots of cosplaying volunteers to keep the line moving and entertained. Here's a link to find a participating store near you: www.freecomicbookday.com/StoreLocator (image from website)

Eyelit Thanks for the link! 8y

Rocking this #RiotGram old school for day 10. Newspaper funny pages.

Suzze For Better or For Worse! The son in that was the same age as my youngest. When they both went off to college, I felt like she was in my mind! My son is now 40. Sigh. 8y
