Impromptu evening beach read after my plans of a quiet evening in are disrupted by the neighbour‘s persistent car alarm. Even went for a swim first

Rereads! So fun reliving brilliant books and spotting things you missed the first time round.
Great traditional fantasy of good vs evil. Great characters.
I only wish it was maybe a trilogy? Would have loved certain things to be expanded on eg.the whole Yscalin situation is a bit ignored & I‘dve enjoyed more time with Tane getting to know her dragon (maybe a mission with the sea guard before things go wrong). It felt like some important stuff happened offscreen. This reads like I‘m giving a bad review but I genuinely just wanted more!
Finished Gideon the Ninth!
Was a slow starter for me: low on explanation of the magic and lots of characters to keep track of (the guide at the front of the book was pretty helpful). Once it kicked off properly though and we start to actually learn what‘s going on I was back on board - lots of fun stabby stab time, a bit of mystery and some great characters. Definitely want to read the next one.
Very chuffed to have won a copy of The Starless Sea from Auckland Libraries Great Summer Read challenge!
Next read! Finished The Spellslinger series by Sebastian de Castell last night - consistently excellent. Feel like I need a non-fantasy book now so I‘m back with Karin Slaughter who never disappoints 😀
ISN‘T THAT COVER PRETTY?
Not sure I‘m ready for this series to end though 😢
The longest book I read last year was Arcanum Unbounded - this was mostly a reread as I‘d read the majority of the short stories in there before. The Adventures off Gentleman Jack and Khriss‘s comments on the star systems were new to me though.

This year I want to check off a few chunkier books that have been lurking on my TBR for a while so I‘m gonna set my reading goal a bit lower at 50.
Happy New Year!
I finished 2019 just shy of my 60 book goal for the year - oh well 🤷♀️
Favourite reads included:
Mark Lawrence‘s Book of the Ancestor Trilogy, Sebastian de Castell‘s Spellslinger books, Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey and The Winter of the witch by Katherine Arden
Gotta love the Dumblewhore....
(My haul from punnydukes is magical 😁)
Mood: Tired and wanting to recline in a personal library like an old-timey lady....
Finally all caught up on the cosmere 💪
Was struggling to sleep last night so gave up on that and had a bit of fun with this very tongue-in-cheek choose your own adventure story.
The format works really well on kindle - just click and it takes you to the page you need to be at (you can't peek at all the different options though!)
Maybe it was the tiredness but I thought it was hilarious; Favourite quote: "You and Mac birth the everloving daylights out of that horse."
Back on the beach - starting to get into The Bands of Mourning
A childhood favourite but I never managed to find the sequel...
Been a bit slow reading-wise over the last few weeks. I'm slowly working my way through Mistborn Era 2. It's never quite grabbed me the same way as the original trilogy but besides the last two of White Sand graphic novels they're the only cosmere novels I have left to read!
Went to the library on Wed to drop off 3 books and came back with more - the tbr pile is neverending 🙈
Struggling with this. Conflict gone by page 50 and I have so many questions. Like:
1. Why would you make a point of changing all the royal family's names only to use other royal family members actual names? (Henry, Phillip, Beatrice...)
2. Why would you specifically mention that they went on This Morning and replace Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield with stern made up presenters?
3. Where the hell is he wild turkey hunting in the UK?!
Traditional whodunnit - keeps you guessing about both the victim and the murderer. (I was able to figure it out but not till pretty near the end and even then there were a few surprises) 👍
Been off-grid for 4 days on a kayaking/camping trip and finished 2 books (The Hunting Party & Perfectly Preventable Deaths). Amazing how quickly I can read when there's no phone signal or wifi for a few days!
My next read: mountains and magic 👍🏔🧙♀️
The book that's been fuelling my roadtrip! I've never really got the whole magic with guns thing before but there's so much more going on here.
Perfect opportunity to show off my new favourite tshirt 😁

So many cool designs: https://www.thecabinsupplyco.com/
The beach has to be the best place to read 🏖
This one was taken back in Ireland 😊
Robin Hood retellings! I remember loving this trilogy as a preteen when I was obsessed with myths and legends ❤
My current library checkouts. Clearly it's all about fantasy at the moment.
#fantasy #yafantasy
The sun has showed up again! I plan to spend the rest of my afternoon outside finishing off this 😎🌞
Another book I read as a teenager that I remember having an impact.
I had a bit of a scroll on goodreads and it seems most people agree; I was surprised at the venom in some of the one star reviews though! I guess if you dislike something very popular you have to hate it extra hard? Ah well, I loved it so I guess I'm just one of the saps that agrees with the crowd on this one 🤷♀️
The Testaments showed up in my library on Friday! I was glued to it all day yesterday. I was hesitant at the idea of a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale (in some ways I would still prefer its incompleteness) but this was a decent, page-turning sequel that gives some interesting insights. It is not as subtle as The Handmaid's Tale and was very different in tone. Some elements felt a bit rushed around the end but on the whole this was an enjoyable read.
Queenslayer and my favourite Lush bathbomb (butterball btw). So happy to be diving back into Kellen's world 👍 I'm off for a lazy Sunday evening.
I finished A Winter's Promise yesterday. I have mixed feelings.
So I loved the magic and the mystery of the world breaking. The main character is a different sort of heroine - quietly strong. However it's a loooong read and at times I wasn't really sure what the point of certain scenes was. The ending is a bit cliffhangery. I think I'll probably get round to reading the sequel at sone point but I'm not in a huge rush.
One of my favourite fantasy series (though I don't think I've mentioned it on here before). When people are looking for grimdark, this is where I point them ⬆️👍
Had an awesome day visiting Tiritiri Mantangi Island yesterday - spent most of the time walking around and looking at beautiful birds but had a bit of time for reading at the end while waiting for the ferry home.
Happy Rugby World Cup day! I'm so excited for this to start - think I'm going to be a bit distracted from books for the next month! 🙊 🇮🇪
(I did manage to start Little Big today though)
Sun is shining! Love coming home from work and being able to read outside! ❤🌞☕
If you're confused about the mess that is British politics at the moment I'd definitely recommend this book as a clear, neutral, non-judgemental way of clearing a few things up. (I'd also recommend reading it on a beach roughly 11000 miles away from said mess...) This was surprisingly easy reading - a fun, friendly tone that laid out a good range of the political spectrum and various "battlegrounds" of British politics.
Just cleaned my whole damn house - think I deserve a glass of wine and a fresh book 🍷📖
Summer is on its way! Looking forward to hours of reading outside - might even make my way through my stupidly tall TBR stack...
So are you excited for a Handmaid's Tale sequel or think it's unnecessary?
The Testaments came out today! Going to be a while before I actually getting around to reading this one - I'm currently 135th in the library queue! 🤣 (I'm trying so hard not to actually buy books atm)
Finished my surf a bit early thanks to a sore neck (boo!) and ran up the cliff a little bit for a read (yay!)
I'll admit I actually got very littlecreading done thanks to crazy wind and being hypnotised by the waves crashing on the rocks 🌊
After a few false starts I finally sat down and read this properly from the beginning. I didn't want to put it down. Pure poetry - it made me laugh and gasp, felt like living in an English town and was sometimes disturbing. If you like Green Man mythology try this! Also the layout of the text is crazy at times but its not just a gimmick, it works brilliantly. Magical ❤
