pickIf you thrive off of reading politics this book is for you. While it is a sci-fi/fantasy the story is driven by the characters and their conceptions of honor and loyalty. There's little magic and a brief mention of aliens. Plot is dedicated to and ongoing struggle between ruling houses and an underdog fighting for their rightful place.

Over 400pgs long, this is the 1st book in the Empire Saga,a companion series to Feist‘s RiftWar series.Set on Kelewan, the Empire that came through the rift to invade Midkemia, it centres on Mara, a young girl made Ruling Lady of the Acoma after her father & brother are killed in that war thru the machinations of another House. It‘s very much stylised in ancient Japanese culture where honour is everything.

I‘m kicking off my #24B4Monday #readathon with the audiobook of the 1st in this “Magician” companion series by Raymond Feist & Janny Wurts. I‘ve already lost 10hrs but I‘m here now🙌 I first read this 30yrs ago(wow I feel old!)and I don‘t think I‘ve reread it until now. I have the series in original hardcovers but I had credits on kobo to use so thought I‘d give the audio a try. Set on Kelewan, it follows Mara, Lady of the Acoma.

Well told & written, the authors work seamlessly together to produce one of the best fantasy series I've read.
