Okay, so not as many checkmarks this week for my #BookReport as I MAY have gotten embroiled in the tagged 500pg+ book instead 😂 Plus I have agreed to WAY too many buddy reads this month (five! Plus two other classics I am reading on my own at a chapter-a-day pace!) so I have about a hundred pages a day to get through before I tackle my current windowsill book lol

Kingfisher Club just wasn't for me; I couldn't jive with the writing style. I did ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) read Mystery by Moonlight for another February #Roll100 pick before we switched to March & finally started the Winternight trilogy. The Bear & the Nightingale didn't BLOW MY MIND as it has for so many others, but I did really enjoy it and definitely want to continue the trilogy - The Girl in the Tower is my current read and book 3 is in the queue as well. Tomorrow's pic will show that there are more, not fewer, books in the windowsill!😂 2y
Cinfhen I almost bought Kingfisher on a daily deal, but had I feeling it wasn‘t gonna be for me… glad to see my instincts were correct 👍🏽 2y

Earlier this week I went in town to run some errands, errands that would involve waiting about in my car, and - brace yourselves - I forgot my book!!! The ONLY solution was to pick up a random Nora Roberts paperback from Meijer's discount rack, right? RIGHT.

I really enjoyed this one but it's not going to be for everyone. The content was quite dark at times, especially in Part 1, as the main character is abused as a child. It's terrifying and ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) intense and I could barely put it down. I really fell in love with the characters in this book, and despite the themes of spousal and child abuse, felt like Roberts balanced it out with good, healthy, happy relationships being portrayed as well. The story explores how difficult it can be to get out of a bad, even life-threatening, situation because most abusers do such a fiendishly good job of isolating and intimidating their victims. ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) The book was a little overly-long, which meant that it slowly spilled into over-the-top territory... the number of people seeking revenge on the main characters started to feel a little ridiculous, and I think the story would have made more sense if it had ended after the plot with Zane's dad was wrapped up at the end of Part 3. However, I was way into these characters and their lives, so I didn't mind the uneven pacing, and was willing ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to forgive the fact that it got a little ridiculous towards the end.

I feel like several of Roberts's more recent books have been very character-based, tracing a character's childhood into adulthood. With some writers I probably wouldn't like it, but Roberts manages to hook me every time, and Under Currents was no exception.

TheAromaofBooks Oh! And also pictured! My fancy new bedroom shelves my husband built this week. I was VERY excited to stain them and get books on them!!! The bedroom is the current remodel project and it seems to mainly consist of building shelves... this one is 2 of 4 installed so far 😂 2y
Ruthiella Love the shelves! Now that I have the kindle app on my phone, it‘s rare for me to be caught out without reading material, but I 💯 support your impromptu Nora Roberts buy! 👍 (edited) 2y

TW: domestic abuse; sexual, emotional, physical abuse; rape; child abuse;

I was (and still am, while writing this review) incredibly hesitant about posting a review of this book. The amount of abuse depicted in the story, while realistic to the plot line, was overwhelming. The story itself was predictable and I felt the ending unrealistic due to the entire story arc.

Please be aware of the TW; it occurs throughout the story, up until the end.

Finished this chunk of a book in record time. Overall, the storyline was good, well developed & I liked most of the characters. I absolutely detested Darby as when she's introduced the dialogue evolved into clichés & overly cringe sentiments. Stronger characters from the start faded away which was a shame. Also the points of conflict were a little brief. I did enjoy the story but the presence of Darby took its toll towards the end. Worth a read.

Still enjoying the plot to this, keen to see how it ends up. The dialogue is a bit cringe and twee but I'm hoping the storyline works out.

Just finished. This book was set in a little fictional town outside Ashville, NC, an area in my state that I love. I enjoyed the mystery, the two main and all the secondary characters and how the town itself was a vibrant part of the story. Trigger warning for child abuse early in the book and for talk of domestic abuse throughout. But another good one by NR.

I love Ms. Nora, but this was not my favorite. Kudos to her for addressing a topic of social justice, but it was just . . . too much. Too many abused people, too many abusers in one story. SPOILER: There was so much build-up of Zane‘s story, and it went nowhere. Graham throws a rock through the window, gets beat up by Darby, and he‘s done. But don‘t worry—we still have plenty of abusers gunning for our couple! Entertaining but stretches credulity.

I‘ve not read one of Roberts‘ stand alone novels for some time, but was so glad I picked up this one. I was hooked from the beginning with the horrors Zane and Britt face as kids. Flash forward years later to find under currents in their community. Darby, who recently has moved to the community, is also escaping a past. There was a tiny section that dragged for me, but other than that, it was a good Roberts novel and a good romantic suspense.⬇️⬇️

StayCurious Use this for BBRC - Grown Up New York Times bestseller I think is one of the categories 🙂 5y

Lizpixie This was my first Nora Roberts. I‘ve always skipped over her thinking she was a romance writer but I won this book in an instagram giveaway and really enjoyed it. I now have two more of hers on audio & three on reserve at the library!👍 5y
Librarybelle @Lizpixie Hope you enjoy the others! Her stand alone books I‘ve read I‘ve enjoyed for the most part. The exception is High Noon - I just couldn‘t get into that one, for some reason. 5y

This was my first Nora Roberts book and I liked it. I appreciated how fully she considered the survivor(s) of familial physical/verbal abuse and how they find their way despite that experience. I‘ve read several books of late where so many issues are dropped into a plot that the story is lost within the list of issues. This book reminds me of why I prefer a single issue story.

This was my first Nora Roberts, and I have to say, I really loved it! I would never have bought this myself, it‘s one of the books I won from Hachette Australia, but I‘m sure glad I gave it a go. The setting was gorgeous, I‘d love to live there myself, the characters were great & the story was a good balance between romance and thriller. If you‘ve never picked up one of her books thinking it‘s not for you, I‘d give her a go, you just never know.

Gillyreads Having read many Nora Roberts books, something I appreciate about her is how she has really honed her thing. You know what to expect and she does it well. 5y

When I went to look for a new book in my #MountTBRStacksOfDoom I was having to put back book after book, coz all the books I wanted to read fit in October‘s #Scarathlon criteria and I have to wait another week!😫Finally decided to pick this one up and so far it‘s really good. Except the descriptions of abuse turned my stomach. A lot. This is one of the books I won from Hachette Australia, I probably never would‘ve picked this up myself otherwise.

Finished listening to my Cloudlibrary audiobook, I really enjoyed the narrator, she does very believable voices for the individual characters. The story is very familiar , a woman with a tragic past meets kind small town fellow- love happens - then nasty , violent events threaten the lovers . Saw the ending coming for miles. When you read Nora Roberts you know what to expect and she delivers.

I really liked this story... Like much of Nora Robert's writing, there wasn't a lot of plot twists. But I felt like it was a good story, with a happy ending. I always love her male characters, they remind me of my family members or even my husband. Though often, I can't engage with her female leads. This one felt cold, and maybe too damaged? I'm not sure... Trigger Warning: Physical Abuse

I do recommend this book

Nora Roberts is amazing! If you loved SHELTER IN PLACE (and I did) you will love UNDER CURRENTS. Like SHELTER IN PLACE this one opens with a shockingly violent event. Then the bad guys are dead or go to prison. The survivors move on with their lives, seemingly happily ever after, but bad guys are back. This book touched upon so many emotions I felt a bit wrung out when I finished it.

Nora Roberts is a queen of romance for a reason - and this book shows why. Really dramatic character backgrounds - trigger warning for abuse. Loved the relationship between Zane and Darby and the suspense/mystery was pretty expected, but done really well. #romance #romantsy

Well done. She definitely has a formula and the beginning was pretty brutal reading (trigger warning: child abuse) but she even managed to surprise me a bit with not 1 but 3 separate bad guys. But it made for good reading while I was at the hospital all freaking day with my hubby‘s surgery. (He‘s fine btw). I even stayed up late last night to finish. So 4:30 am came really early today. 🤣 #bfcr2 @wanderinglynn 👇

Slight #bookhaul from yesterday‘s shopping trip with my oldest. We had lunch, walked around hobby lobby, the bookstore, and got groceries. Then she went to her house and I went to mine. It‘s been over a year since she‘s lived at home and it still feels weird. Going to bookstore again tomorrow but that‘s part of my bestie night out, and I don‘t always buy books for that one. 😁📚❤️

Nora Roberts rarely disappoints and her recent suspense romances have been outstanding. This is no exception, our two protagonists are both survivors of abuse (it does occur in the book so potentially triggering) but overall it is a book about community and loved ones helping them recover and thrive. #romancy #suspense

All other reading is on hold until the new Nora is completed. I used to call her my guilty pleasure, but there is no longer any shame in this game!!

What authors are a “guilty” pleasure for you??

Jeannineth I have never read Nora Roberts. I was alway under the impression she was a romance author, but I believe this is a thriller. I might give it a read. My guilty pleasure is John Grisham and the late Sue Grafton. 5y
Owlizabeth @Jeannineth she usually has a romance in her stories, but there‘s a mystery/thriller or fantasy element as well! I always find her entertaining, and love her detective series written under the pen name J. D. Robb. 5y
Shksprsis I‘m with you. I don‘t feel guilty about any books I read. I read for pleasure, enlightenment, education, etc. I don‘t read to make myself feel bad! 5y
