The story was ok. It wasn‘t an amazing book for me. Maybe because as an avid reader I‘m not a reader of classics. They were such a big part of this book and I feel like I missed out because of that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed, for the most part, this story about a women learning, at long last, what led to the break between her mom & favorite uncle. When her uncle dies, Miranda goes home for the funeral & learns her uncle left her his bookstore & clues to the truth of what really happened years ago. The plot is good, albeit predictable, characters okay but I think the writing, let‘s both down. Good but not great. Still, a low pick in the end.
Family drama mystery. I guessed early on what the big mystery was, but I cried anyway, lol. I usually read fantasy romance so this was a nice palate cleanser in between those books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️½
This was almost not a pick, I liked the premise and bookshop setting but I really wished I had liked the characters more.
Something about this passage broke my heart just a little. It just conveyed a sense of aloneness that made me a bit sad.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ bought this a year or so ago. Finally got around to it this week. Very good.
Miranda adored her Uncle Billy as a kid, but after his estrangement from her mother, she hasn‘t seen him for years. Then she learns he has died and left her his bookstore along with a scavenger hunt to learn about his past. This is not a perfect book and it even irritated me in places, but I found it compelling and didn‘t want to put it down.
I enjoyed the originality of the plot and the gripping story about literature and family secrets buried in the past. Although not always happy with the main character, I really did enjoy the story that gives the reader some pleasant, entertaining reading hours.
For such a mid-length novel, this one seems to go on and on…
I really liked the bookshop stuff and the literary references. I was slightly annoyed by the predictable, unrealistic storyline and the clunky writing style. I could not stand the selfish, shallow main character. I stuck with it, but didn‘t love it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I liked the premise of the novel. A woman inherited her estranged Uncle‘s book store and leaves her clues in books to reveal a family secret. However, the main character was so driven on her quest she alienates everyone in her life and does not uphold her responsibilities to her two jobs. Her mother also vexed me since she could have saved her daughter so much pain by just telling her the secret. But it was a quick read and about the love of books

I enjoyed the scavenger hunt that Miranda goes on, not to mention the many books mentioned throughout. I did guess the twist well before Miranda figured it out and Jay is such a frat guy who is totally wrong for her. He had no contribution so between him and figuring out the surprise, it didn‘t make it quite to a 5 star read for me. That said, it was still good and pulls at your heartstrings so it was worthy of a solid 4 stars.
A few weeks ago I posted about being unable to find a book I borrowed from my sister in my filthy book hoard. Today, I cleaned up some of that book hoard (bedroom only, everything else is currently inaccessible 😩) AND I FOUND IT!! I also found the other one she loaned me. This book better blow my mind!!
Not only was Billy great at making puzzles 🧩 & scavenger hunts, he would have made a great Science Teacher- a 3-D plastic frog 🐸 with anatomy inside - as a way to help a friend survive biology dissection lab! 💚💚💚
This book was so much fun to read. A mysterious uncle who owns a bookshop dies and leaves the bookshop to his niece. But in the store he left clues about his past in the books around the store and Miranda must figure out how she is involved while dealing with the people who come with the book store. #bookshop #mystery #familydrama
My sister lent me two books a couple of years ago and I am ready to take the plunge and read one. But I can‘t find it 😩 I don‘t know why, what with my extremely organized book hoard 😬
Miranda misses her uncle Billy, her mom has a fight with her brother, the mystery of his disappearance begins. liked all the characters except the main one, Miranda;one of those characters who never seems happy. I almost DNF but the last third is where the story seems to hold the most interest and answers finally what everyone‘s secret is. What really bothered me? Who were the Dodgers playing when Malcom took her to a baseball game!😜
I devoured this book! While I figured out the big reveal close to the beginning of the book, I love the way the author got to the end. She still had me guessing on whether I was right. The story is about a woman who hasn‘t seen her uncle in years, but when he dies, he leaves her his bookshop and a scavenger hunt. Can‘t wait to discuss at book club. 576 points for #merryreaders for #wintergames. #crushtherush #readyourway
Getting some quiet, morning reading time for #wintergames. Not a winter or Christmas book but it‘s been on my tbr forever and satisfies a lot of prompts for some readathons and bingos. It‘s so good and so hard to put down!
A mystery set in a bookshop that has a coffee shop within it... I was all in! This book grabbed me right at the beginning but the pace soon slowed. I could see the promise of this book so I pushed through the slow part & I'm so glad I did, I loved the ending of this book so much! When Miranda inherits her estranged & eccentric uncle's book shop after his death the mystery begins with a scavenger hunt series of clues. #6 of #15books15weeks Cont....
Just discovered a lovely local bookshop near our new house, complete with cookies and tea!! I'm so excited to begin supporting indie shops, as I'm really starting to get fed up with B&N. From now on, I know where I'll be scouring my pre-orders from 🤗
This was definitely a pick for me. It was our book club‘s read for this month and I really loved it. It‘s about a young woman who goes across the country in a scavenger hunt of sorts left by her estranged uncle who passed away. This is just full of literary references and twists and a bit of romance and drama. I loved everything about this book!
This isn't something I normally would read, but I read it because the author is local and is doing a virtual author talk at the local library. I ended up liking it, not loving it but it was cute. And then I totally forgot to show up to the virtual talk, lol.
An enjoyable audiobook. Miranda, a middle school history teacher, inherits her Uncle Billy‘s bookstore. Somewhat predictable plot, but the literary scavenger hunt and family drama kept me interested.
🎧 decent narration ... Miranda is a history teacher who inherits a bookshop and that starts a journey of self discovery that‘s terribly predictable but still interesting. Family secrets, forgiveness & a love of books rank highest. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A belated, but very welcome Christmas present!!
Thank you to my cousin, Priscilla!!
Just started tonight but it‘s too warm for a fire so I‘m playing the fireplace on Netflix. :-) I have a feeling I will need to visit several old independent bookshops after reading this.
There were some things I liked about this one, and a few things I didn‘t. Liked the bookshop setting and family history scavenger hunt. Not super impressed by the main character, the pacing and editing of the story, and the reveals. Overall and enjoyable and engaging read, but just a reasonably good book.
It does make me want to read The Tempest, though!
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
I loved the bookstore setting and literary scavenger hunt/mystery with The Tempest at its heart. This is good if you like family drama and bookstore charm. I figured out the mystery pretty early, but it was still an enjoyable read.
I just started this one, and I am loving it so far; but I think I may have figured out the mystery in chapter one? Maybe not? Mid 90s culture and literary allusions are ❤ in chapters 1 and 2. It's enough to keep me interested. 🤓 I love a good bookstore novel coupled with 8.5 inches of the fluffy stuff ❄! #snowday #readingandcocoa #theweatheroutsideisfrightful
I neither hated nor loved this slice of life novel. If you enjoy reading about other people who love books, family secrets, and scavenger hunts, this should be worth a read. I occasionally felt that the writing was very “writerly“, so a bit clumsy. #sliceoflife #booklove #familysecret

Wasn‘t a huge fan. Felt scattered and forced. Meh.
Reading outside before the hurricane hits our province. With some frog friends.
Thank you, Denise! Can‘t wait to read it & let you know what I think. 📚
This was just ok... I wanted to love it because it takes place in a bookstore and I dream of someone leaving a bookstore to me, but I guessed the major plot twist almost immediately and ended up just being really impatient to get to through it.

Hey, @umbrellagirl ! This is headed your way! I‘m sorry it‘s late. It‘s been quite the few weeks with so much going on!
I absolutely loved this book! It‘s part mystery, part family drama, a sprinkling of romance and perfect for any book lover! Miranda‘s Uncle Billy has died and he‘s left her one last scavenger hunt and his bookstore. What she uncovers are long buried family secrets, and a whole lot about herself. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Second book finished for the #reversereadathon! Just in time, as it‘s hour 24! @DeweysReadathon
My #reversereadathon was interrupted to listen to a friend going through some stuff, and to have a conversation with my ultra thin and trying to bulk up 19 year old about why eating a bag of pistachios is not a healthy way to meet one‘s caloric goals (not to mention outlandishly expensive - oh my grocery bill!).
Now I‘m back! I am loving this book!
@DeweysReadathon
Up early to continue the #reversereadathon. My reading buddy would much rather be in bed, but takes his job as my constant companion very seriously. ❤️📚🐩
@DeweysReadathon
I‘m probably headed to bed in about an hour, so I‘m allowing myself one of my favorite beers with my snack (extra dark “Specials” pretzels) and my next book. Normally, alcohol is a no-no for me during a readathon because it makes me sleepy. 🙂 My plan is to read until 1am-ish local time, and get up around 5am tomorrow. I love reading when the rest of the house is asleep. ❤️📚 #reversereadathon
Starting this one next for the #reversereadathon. There‘s a them for me for this readathon: bookish books. 🙂📚❤️
