panMy main complaint is that the whole premise hinges on this terrible, unforgivable thing that the main character did as a teenager, resulting in her brother and sister both going to jail. What is this terrible thing she did? Upon arriving home from a date and finding her siblings having a drug-fueled party in which her sister becomes injured and her brother's friend dies from a drug OD, she calls the cops.
I mean...
Jade is a very well-kept Buckhead housewife and her husband Cam is a super star chef with multiple restaurants in Atlanta. As she is taking her kids home after school, someone is in her house, and he holds them hostage. I really thought this book would not hold many surprises for me, y'know, bad husband does bad things and family has to pay for his stupid mistakes. BUT, this novel had some tricks up it's sleeve and surprised me in some good ways
pickSteel seems to love writing about large families. In this one, Preston and Constance Whittier, parents of 6 adult children, enjoy winter ski trips for just the 2 of them. But this one ends in tragedy and all the children reunite at the Manhattan mansion where they grew up to pick up the pieces…

pickSteamy, yet heartfelt. You feel the struggle between two characters as they desire each other so deeply, but they balance their passion with protection for the ones around them. Great read!
