Here's what I have for #Roll100. I'm using this challenge to work through books I already own. Time to start purging some and make room for new books.
My goal is to work towards just holding on to books I love.
@PuddleJumper
The story about a young, poor woman who had to invent her own life and fight for her right to exist, was touching. The way of describing life in medivial times seemed very real. Altough I liked the book, I wouldn't want to read it again very soon. The characters didn't give me anything new of special that couldn't be given to me by any other random book. But still, I can't say anything particulary bad about the book. It was just fine.
This alternative perspective fairytale of Cinderella's step mother wasn't exactly what I expected as it was overtly religious, missing magical realism, and quite the saga with many hardships for the stepmother, Agnes. I enjoyed the character development of Agnes and of how Cinderella came to be. But it felt too long and I never do this but ended up skimming about a quarter of the book. But I enjoyed reading all the #LMPBC notes!
Wahoo!! My #LMPBC for October finally arrived today! The USPS had it take quite the detour but after 20+ days it made it, haha.
@Lesanne @sprainedbrain
@Wife I'll try to read this quickly, but I likely can't start it until Tuesday. Let me know if it's a rush. Thanks!
I found this retelling if Cinderella from the Stepmother‘s point of view both dark and lovely. The Stepmother, Agnes, is both strong and smart. She has done everything in her power to be a good mother to her daughters and Ella. I enjoyed this! 3.5⭐️s
I won‘t say too much because I don‘t want to spoil it for my #LMPBC group, but I will never see the story of Cinderella, her Stepmother, and Stepsisters the same way again! I really enjoyed this! 3/5🧺s It‘s going in the mail to Jenni today. @sprainedbrain @Lesanne @Kaylamburson @suvata

All the Ever Afters 3 1\u002 🌟 I enjoyed this backstory of Cinderella‘s stepfamily
Dear Martin 3 1/2 🌟 Sad but hopeful
Devoted in Death 3🌟 these are usually good escapism but this one wasn‘t it...I am sure it‘s me
This Book is Anti-Racist 4 🌟Written for a younger audience but presents good tools for finding and using your voice
Barely made a dent in my 3 current reads and lots of books on tap for July.
Cinderella's step moms story
I loved the twist take on the classic Cinderella tale. I‘ve seen so many over the top reimaginings but the subtle twist in taking a new perspective made for a pretty good read. What did you think? Agree or disagree?

What better time get back into reading than quarantine? Made it Chapter 19 last night, anyone else workin on this one right now?

Wasn‘t planning on reading this but when I was browsing my library‘s shelves I discovered it and I was in the mood for a fairy tale retelling. I‘m about half way through and enjoying it.
A retelling of Cinderella from the stepmother's perspective. This book goes on to show that what we have always perceived to be evil may actually be something else from the other person's perspective.
Okay so I have missed two days in a row but here's my #covercrush for Day 5 of #7days7covers
Anyone who wishes to post can do so.
A retelling of Cinderella from her stepmother‘s perspective. Lush language and plenty of captivating historical details. Highly recommended for fairytale fans.
This book is fantastic example of the power of perspective as it flipped my perception of the story of Cinderella. It was a pleasure to read.
"Everyone knows the story about Prince Henry's hunt for the beautiful girl he met at the ball... As usual, the truth is more mundane."
I went into this knowing very little of the premise and it turned out to be one of my favourite retellings yet! I was pleasantly surprised to find it's not YA, and not fantasy. Instead, it's structured as the memoir of a strong woman in a time when fever was a death sentence and women had so few options.
Finally working my way through this one. I'm all about fairytale retellings, and I love that this one does away with any magical elements and goes for a historical fiction / memoir structure. Really enjoying it!

Ive been supplementing my lack of reading books lately with buying books instead. 🙈📚 I cannot resist a great deal! 🤷🏻♀️😂 #BookHaul #BookOutlet
One of the best and cleverest fairy tale retelling I've read! Loved it! If you like lyrical prose and evocative writing, you may enjoy this book!
Rating: 5🌟

Finally! My #Booked2019 #winter prompts is complete!!! 😁 I enjoyed all of them except Bones Are Forever (Kathy Reichs). I'm glad I did this. Helped me to clear my #MountTBR2019 and now I'm listening to podcasts because of prompt #4 😁 Now, I'm off to start the #Spring prompts!

Wicked step mother or tired, overwhelmed mom doing the best she could with what she had at the time? This book is told from the perspective of Cinderella‘s step mother, minus all magic, for a more historical fic vibe. Tbh, the first 100ish pages of this book did nothing for me and I only kept reading to fulfill my #booked2019 #fairytaleretelling but after that slow start, I was so glad I stayed. It was worth it!
I know we are only in January, but this is my favorite read of 2019 so far! I have been on a fairytale retelling spree for a while now, and this is one of the best I have ever read. I will be keeping an eye on Danielle Teller.
Another ARC. Really good. Quite adult, though not "dirty". The cover had me thinking it was a YA. I don't think it is. #2018
2/5 ⭐ The writing is decent, but this story is primarily generic historical and is barely tangential to the Cinderella story. I didn't find the plot or characters compelling in the least. The 50% I got through was just bland and flat for me. #projectnew
An ambitious #Jan2019tbr and I hope it's doable! I'm attempting 2 challenges simultaneously with my TBR:
➡️ #MountTBR2019 - Mt. Kilimanjaro
➡️ #Booked2019:
- All The Ever Afters - #FairytaleRetelling
- The Beekeeper's Apprentice - #FemaleDetective #NewToYouAuthor
- The Saturday Night Ghost Club - #RemindsYouOfYourHappyPlace

I did it!!
A perfect companion to a rainy summer day! I really liked this retelling of Cinderella where nobody is perfect but everyone is trying their best. The historical details really added to the atmosphere.
I was just looking for the tagged book...but I just couldn‘t help myself. 😔 i never learn my lesson. I have plenty to read, but I added more to my piles. 📚📚📚
Excellent book. A fresh telling of Cinderella with lots of social commentary.
Hey #GroupB! I pulled together some possibilities for this next spin up of #LMPBC. I‘m not partial to any one of them because they‘re all on my TBR so let me know what you guys think to help me narrow this down 😱
@kellyann28 @TheBookKeepers @Johanna414
Saw this book at the library -- I had to check it out. Hopefully it's a good one! 🤞
I liked it, but maybe my expectations were too high. It was very dry and felt almost like nonfiction in some parts. I liked the connections to the Cinderella fairy tale we all know and the descriptions of how that story possibly came to be.
Really enjoying this one so far! I generally like retellings or spinoffs of fairy tales and well known stories.
What‘s your favorite retelling or spinoff story?

I‘m trying to let myself DNF more books without feeling guilty so this one‘s getting the boot. The retelling of Cinderella (or rather, Cinderella‘s step-mom) sounded intriguing, but I was bored.

This was a really good change in perspective fairytale retelling of Cinderella! I really liked how she wove the pieces of the original into the new narrative!
@Avanders it came!! I didn't get a before picture, I was too excited 🙊🙊 Aletheia, thank you SO much... you did not have to do any of this! I snagged a little candy to take to work with me on the way out earlier, and put the teas in the kitchen so I could share with my mom. They smell delicious 🤗 I am so excited for these books!! And the journal & notepad?!? 😍😍 I don't even have the proper words to accurately express my gratitude ❤❤ #JB
#66 for 2018
Cinderella told from her Step Mother's POV written like a memoir. It is less magical and more realistic than the original fairy tale but it worked really well.
#fairytales #reimagined
In the dentist waiting room getting my fill of fairy tale magic! Im not totally sold on the book yet, although it is well-written...
This is a hard one for me to review. It read quickly - always a good sign. But it was never fun. And I don't mean like Cyndi Lauper girls just wanna have fun, fun .. but it takes the form of a memoir that is interesting enough in its facts, but pretty dry and provides little beyond said facts. Also, I don't understand the title .. All? The ever afters? Of whom or what is unclear. But it's not bad. It's just ok.
Also: TW on non-consensual relations
My TBR pile is getting ridiculous but I can't resist these 2 books when I was at Costco earlier. I have no self-control! 😁
#noselfcontrol #newbooks #bookhaul #obsessedwithbooks
Wow! This was incredibly well done! A character typically villanized gets their own POV and every one in here has completely different characteristics and their own story. I also really appreciated the focus being on motherly love rather than a romantic love betrayal!
