What do a 30 year old jewelry heist, a murder in a columbarium (crypt) and a toucan have in common? More than you would think, as it turns out!

Also, I learned that toucans cannot not talk (I never thought about this before), and they are incredibly messy eaters that adore fruit.

Librarybelle Interesting facts about the toucan! 8mo
mabell @Librarybelle A fun bonus to the mystery! 😄 8mo

I had no idea there was an art school in Grand Central Terminal! I like Davis‘s novels for bringing a NYC landmark to life - the setting becomes a character. Told in a dual timeline, Clara‘s story of the 1920s/1930s and Virginia‘s from the 1970s shows the passage of time on the building. Arts, women‘s rights, and historic preservation play a role in this. I was not too crazy over the two MC‘s, but the story itself really entertained me.

Hazel gets a call from her father. He tells her that her grandfather has passed away and that she is needed in Hong Kong. Hazel takes Daisy with, and upon arrival Hazel finds out that she has a baby brother. Hazel thinks that all the tension in the family is due to this until one person in the household is killed and another kidnapped.

I loved the Hong Kong and that we finally meet the rest of Hazel‘s family.

Librarybelle This sounds fun! 2y
batsy This reminds me I need to continue with the rest of the series! 2y

The second in the series featuring Holly White and her family‘s Christmas tree farm does not disappoint! Quirky characters and a very inquisitive Holly are on the case when Holly‘s BFF is accused of murder. There‘s some light romance and a tiny bit of the supernatural in this one. And can I just say the desserts sound amazing! I love the narration of these…only one more in the series! #19822022 #2018

AmandaBlaze Good to know you liked it. I just started it. 🙂 2y
Librarybelle @AmandaBlaze I immediately downloaded the next one from Audible. It‘s late at night where I am to start it, but I‘m ready to go! 2y

I normally would not have picked up this book but I was attracted by the combination of knitting and vampires, and by the fact that it was set in Oxford, which I had just visited in August. It was a fun read!

Librarybelle What an unique combo of topics - knitting and vampires! 2y

kwmg40 @Librarybelle @vonnie862 @DieAReader @Catsandbooks @Andrew65 @PuddleJumper @TheSpineView @TheAromaofBooks I didn't think that the combination of knitting and vampires would inspire so much enthusiasm. I guess it's not just me who loves the mix of the two. I forgot to mention that there are witches too! 2y

37/22I enjoyed this book about murder and sisters, it was as witty as it was dark. I was listening to it and it felt like it ended very abruptly because I wasn‘t paying attention to how far along it was. But I actually quite liked that. I didn‘t know how it would end but I felt satisfied when it did. #booked2022 #authorborninafrica (Braithwaite was born in Lagos). #192025 #2018

Librarybelle Good choice! I‘ve yet to read this one, but one that works so well for #ReadingAfrica2022 ! @BarbaraBB 2y

This is a fast paced multigenerational story of twelve Native characters, on their way to the Big Oakland Powwow. The Powwow is a celebration of Native culture. There are substantial cash prizes for the winners of the traditional dance competition. Each of the characters has a reason to attend, and as the time grows closer, their stories intersect. A glimpse into the world of urban Natives. Heart wrenching. #booked2022 #titlerepeatsitself

Cinfhen This was a really impressive debut! I‘m excited to see what the author does next 🤓 2y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen Yes! When this was One Book Philadelphia, I attended a program at Museum of the Revolution that tied in with the book. It was great! Our group toured exhibits related to Natives and we would stop periodically and listen to readings from the book. It has been sitting on my shelf. If it wasn‘t for Booked2022, it would still be there! 2y
Librarybelle I have this on my to read list and hope to read it for the same #Booked2022 prompt! 2y
Cinfhen That‘s so cool, Diane!!! I don‘t think I‘ve ever been to that museum. 2y
DivineDiana @cinfhen It only opened in 2017. 🙂 2y
Cinfhen That explains it then 😉 2y

This is a collection of short stories linked by one subject - immigration. Variations on this subject are moving between loss of the home, searching for peace of mind in a new environment … to the racial impatience, the desire to belonged, losing touch with the traditional values … Very good collection, but as always with short stories - some are stronger than others.

Enjoyed this one. I feel like this is a mix of One by One and The Guest List but I still loved the thrill of the story. A good way to kick of the head! It also checks two challenge boxes! #19822022 #2018 #booked2022 #setinalodge
